After almost a gap of a year, Triumph has bought the Bonneville back, No not the chocolate! We are talking about the all-new Triumph Bonneville Bobber. The Bobber has been one of Triumph’s most popular motorcycles. The 2021 model has all the previous generation Bobber’s peerless authenticity and engineering innovation and adds all of the Bobber Black’s category-defining capability new 2021 Bobber that delivers the best of both worlds.
What’s new to offer?
Significant updates include enhanced engine performance for an even more responsive and thrilling ride, higher specification technology and equipment, and an all-new blacked-out, chunkier style. With a range of 77 genuine Triumph accessories on offer, including an alternative high bar set-up, luggage and choice of seating options, and its class-leading adjustable seating and footpeg position, the Bobber has been designed for riders to adapt to suit them and their style.
The new 2021 generation Bobber comes in three distinctive color options, with a new Matt Storm grey and Matt Ironstone scheme, a new Cordovan Red scheme, and a classic Jet Black option.
BS6 compliant? will there be power loss as compared to the old one?
The 2021 Bobber also exceeds EURO 5 requirements, giving lower emissions than the previous generation, and excellent fuel economy. Riding distance is also enhanced by the new, larger, 12-liter fuel tank which gives you up to 33% more range. Triumph’s sophisticated ride-by-wire system ensures precise throttle control and enables the two enhanced riding modes – ‘Road’ and ‘Rain’. These adjust both the throttle response and traction control settings to add to confidence and safety in all conditions.
The new Bobber is powered by Triumph’s latest generation Bonneville 1200cc, high-torque British twin-engine. Thanks to a reduction in inertia, this updated 2021 engine is more responsive, and its torque curve is fuller and smoother. The charismatic 270-degree firing interval gives a beautifully smooth and linear power delivery, with the new engine delivering a notable lift at 5,500 rpm. Peak torque is an exceptional 106Nm at a low 4,000 rpm, and peak power is 78PS at 6,100 rpm.
The unique twin airbox intakes are located under the seat, while the straight-line exhaust pipe runs cleverly conceals the catalyst box. Slash-cut, sawn-off peashooter silencers complete the picture and deliver a rich and raw Bobber sound. A very high service interval of 10,000 miles or 16,000 kilometers helps keep the ongoing cost of ownership low.
How well does it grip on the road?
The 2021 Triumph Bobber now features a 16” fat front wheel and new, chunkier 47mm front forks, giving a really muscular and imposing front-end presence. The new front wheel is complemented by Bobber’s wide rear wheel setup. Both have a classic wire-spoked design, with black rims. The Avon Cobra tires have been specifically developed for the Bobber, with lightweight construction for excellent high-speed maneuverability and class-leading stability.
The Bobber is equipped with premium Brembo 2-piston calipers and twin discs, for excellent and controlled stopping power, while on the rear is a single-disc setup. Triumph’s sophisticated ABS and switchable traction control are standard for added safety and security.
Central to the Bobber’s authentic hard-tail look is the floating aluminum seat, with a mono-shock suspension and distinctive “swing-cage” swinging arm, which ensure great wheel control and added comfort. The seat is ergonomically optimized and sculpted for comfort, with a beautifully stitched deep foam pad. The seat height is only 690mm, making it an extremely accessible motorcycle to ride.
The riding position is adjustable – and the seat can be re-positioned ‘up and forwards’, or ‘down and backward’ to optimize comfort and control for all sizes of riders. The instruments are adjustable too, so they can be tailored to match.
New blacked-out style and detailing
The Bobber has all of the signature hallmarks and beautiful details that are widely appreciated worldwide – minimal steel fenders with a centre ridge and return edge, wide flat bars with broad, adjustable levers, sculpted top yoke, rubber gaiters, classic rear ‘drum brake’ inspired hub, side-mounted ignition barrel, black painted bar end mirrors, LED bullet indicators and a new, signature full LED headlight.
For added visibility and where market legislation permits, for 2021 the headlight features Triumph’s signature LED Daytime Running Light. And adding to the minimalist style for 2021 are new black engine covers, cam cover and sprocket cover, giving the Bobber a new, meaner, moodier edge.
For 2021 the instruments feature a new bezel, including a metallic embellisher with subtle Bonneville branding. There’s a new dial face, with translucent silver markings, and more integrated warning lights. The multi-function display is controlled by an easily accessible handlebar mounted scroll button.

The new Isuzu Mu-X and Chevy Trailblazer are same? Let’s find out if the ‘Born to be More’ is new or is it a decade-old car. Isuzu MU-7 was the predecessor of the mu-X, and back in 2013, it made its world debut in Thailand. It was a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and Isuzu, where the car was rebadged as Holden Colorado or Chevrolet Trailblazer for GM. For Isuzu, it was Mu-x due to some agreement with GM, Isuzu had to launch the car after GM. This week we got a new updated version of the Isuzu V-cross and the Mu-x which are BS6 compliant, even though when the world got updated versions of the Isuzu Mux and V-cross we are still having a decade old design.
Chevrolet India left the country back in 2017, with its last attempt at achieving a stable position in the Indian automotive market they launched the Chevrolet Trailblazer in 2015 hoping it to be a great product of all times, but Captiva sales were double than the trailblazer.
As we mentioned earlier Mu-x and Trailblazer were the same, which means that we had seen this car back in 2015 and Isuzu has bought the same car with a rebadged version. Let’s compare and find out what makes the Isuzu Mu-X (2021) stand out when compared with Chevy Trailblazer 2015 ( 6 years ago). Find this to be a bit unfair? Check the table below.
|2766cc Duramax 2.8Ltr, CRDI||2999cc VGS 3.0Ltr|
|11.45 kmpl||13.8 kmpl|
|6-Speed Auto||5-Speed Auto|
|Tire Size||265/60 R18||
Yes, this was quite surprising to us as well, the Trailblazer was a perfect competition to Toyota’s Fortuner back then, unfortunately, it was not good at sales only because of the heavy price tag. One of the main reasons why it was heavily priced was the full import taxes levied on the company.
On the other hand, we are watching history repeating itself same car and the company is struggling to make sales, again for the same reason HEAVY PRICING.
Back then Chevrolet had quite a lot of reasons to ask for that price such as the great interiors, the only Suv to be huge and most powerful more than Fortuner, etc. But on the other hand, Isuzu asking for such a huge price by redesigning bumpers, installing few fancy electricals such as the Projector, etc will result in poor sales.
Few Photos for direct comparison Chevy vs Isuzu
Calculating the price of Trailblazer if it was launched today as it comes very close to 2021 Isuzu Mu-X
Back in 2015, it was priced at 25 lacs, with an inflation rate of 24.59% and an average rate of inflation of 4.5% today the price of 25 lacs is somewhere around 31 lacs we still have a margin of 7 lacs if we go for Isuzu 4×4 that is 35lacs.
We at Shutterdrives wish Isuzu India all the best and hope they launch their new lineup here in India soon.
