On 29th March, the BMW Group plant in Chennai completed 15 long years of its operations in the country, the landmark occasion of which was celebrated by the company.
The plant currently serves as the birthing suite of most BMWs as well as for MINI in India. The company considers it a “world class facility” producing “Made in India” cars with the strictest quality standards.

The plant rolled out its first car, a 3-Series on the 29th of March 2007, 15 years ago. Since then the company has taken considerable strides into the Indian market as a luxury carmaker. Recently, BMW Group India rolled the 100,000th car off its assembly line as well.

BMW says each car that rolls-out of the facility has the same international quality standards as any other BMW Group plant across the world. Currently, 13 models are locally produced: the 2 Series Gran Coupe, 3 Series and 3 Series Gran Limousine, M340i, 5 Series, 6 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X1, X3, X4, X5, X7 and the MINI Countryman.
