Kia India has started accepting bookings for their first Electric Vehicle in India, the EV6.
The EV6 is Kia’s first and most premium offering in the country, which has been accoladed with multiple international awards since its launch. The vehicle can be booked with a token amount of INR 3 Lakhs exclusively through 15 select dealerships across 12 cities in India.
Only 100 EV6 vehicles will be imported, and only as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) for 2022. Kia is slated to launch their latest offering in the first week of June 2022 and customers can book the EV6 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
About the Kia EV6:
The Kia EV6 is the brand’s first EV launched under their new striking design language with sharp lines and creases all around. Based on the company’s EV-only Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the car will be available in India in only the GT Line trim. It comes fully equipped with innovative technologies like the multi-charging system, and the world’s first charging system “that operates with both 400V and 800V chargers without the need of an additional controller”, whatever that is.
Being an EV, charging time is a major point of concern, and Kia doesn’t disappoint in that regard either. 10% to 80% top up takes a measly 18 minutes using a 350KWh charger and a single charge gets you a claimed 528kms of range (WLTP cycle).
An innovative “Vehicle to Load” system allows the car to be used as a power source as well, where one can use the car’s battery to power appliances as big as a medium sized home AC.
Under the “bonnet”:
Speaking of batteries, the Indian version EV6 gets equipped with a 77.4KWh battery pack. The floor mounted battery provides all the pulling grunt to two motors in the 4WD version producing 320ps of power and to one motor in the 2WD version producing 229ps of power. The 0-100kmph dash takes an EV-typical 5.2 seconds.
Another standout realm for the EV6 is its safety. Kia has made 8-airbags as standard in their newest offering with multiple passive safety features in addition to a surround view system. Cherry on the cake, the EV6 gets a ton of tech in the form of an ADAS system including Lane Keep assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist and much more.
Once launched, the EV6 will not be having any up front competition. It is poised go up against its cousin, Hyundai Ioniq 5, once the latter gets launched later this year. Expect pricing to be near about INR 50-60Lakhs for the Kia.
