GTU Motorsport made India rank 45th in Formula Student Racing.

Team GTU Motorsports is the Formula Student Combustion Team of GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY (GTU)  based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Team was formed in April 2014, when seven GTU affiliated institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to form a team under GTU. The team comprises a well-balanced combination of seniors with talent and expertise as well as juniors who bring creativity and zeal to the advancement of the Team.

Team GTU Motorsports shares that following the completion of Formula Bharat 2021, the team has risen 27 ranks in the global Formula Student Ranking Index and now stands on the 45th spot! At the moment, they are the ONLY Indian Formula Student Combustion team in the top 50.

Over the course, they have acquired a lot of recognition and expertise, which has effectively pushed them to this level. In the process of developing an open-wheel, single-seater Formula A style race car that enables students in inculcating skills like manufacturing, design, management, marketing as well as teamwork along the way. Every year, they represent GTU at two major events: Formula Bharat and Supra SAE INDIA. Our ambition is to bring GTU Motorsports closest to a “Real-world engineering experience”, not strictly limited to automotive design and racing. The team was formed for the students to enhance their learning experience and to go from book-smart to street-smart. Their motto is “Building People, not just Race Cars” and hence they focus on the overall development of an individual joining the team. Team GTU Motorsports is a result of the above-mentioned ideology and initiative.

Their ambition is to bring GTU Motorsports closest to a “Real-world engineering experience” not strictly limited to automotive design and racing. The team consists of 40 students from various colleges affiliated to Gujarat Technological University GTU, which are situated in various zones across the state which includes students from Mechanical, Automobile, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, IT & CE branches of engineering as well as management.

Few Achievements:–

  • Even in times of pandemic, the team secured 3rd rank in Design Presentation and also won the Best Business Plan Pitch Deck in the first-ever Virtual Formula Bharat 2021.
  •  GTM20 is the Fifth Consecutive Race Car of Team GTU  Motorsports since its inception. GTM20 competed in Formula Bharat 2020 held at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore from 22nd January to 26th January 2020 and secured 3rd rank overall. 1st rank in Endurance &Acceleration.
  • GTM19 (previous vehicle) performed exceptionally well in static as well as dynamic events. The team secured 1st rank in Acceleration, Endurance, Overall Efficiency. Hence, the team was declared as Champion in the 2019 edition of Formula Bharat, which was also held at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore.
  •  GTM18 secured 2nd place overall at SUPRA SAE, held at Buddha International Circuit, Greater Noida.
  •  GTM17 won the SUPRA SAE which was held at Buddha International Circuit, Greater Noida.
