Hyundai India is all set to refresh their flagship SUV offering, the Tucson in India with a radical design.
The brand will introduce the 4th Generation of its global best-selling SUV to India in the 2nd half of 2022.
Hyundai says the new Tucson will employ ‘Intelligent Technology, Futuristic Design, Unmatched Safety and Smart Innovations’. Since the launch of the car in 2004, 7 million units have been sold all over the globe.
The Current Tucson:
Powered by 2L petrol and diesel engines, the existing Tucson makes 150hp and 182hp respectively. The petrol powerplant churns out 192Nm and the diesel pushes 400Nm of torque. Automatic transmission comes as standard with a top end diesel 4×4 also on offer.
The Tucson comes fairly feature rich as well, with modern features here and there aplenty. The older generation of Hyundai’s infotainment system was at play with part-digital drivers’ display. On the safety front, you would get 6 airbags and multiple driving assists at your disposal. Although among the misses, the addition of a 360 degree camera and ventilated seats could have been expected in a car south of INR 30Lakhs.
Sitting above the Alcazar, the Tucson is due for a visual and internal upgrade with the newer model already in the international markets. Coming to India in H2, customers are posed to get an option for the premium 5-seater SUV segment.
Competition:
The outgoing Hyundai in India hasn’t had much success either, with the Jeep Compass being its closest rival. The latter on the other hand sells numbers ten-fold of the Hyundai born. At the same time, the premium SUV segment is for sure a section of cars that hasn’t had much action in a long time now.
