Global NCAP has revealed the crash test ratings for the Kia Carens MPV today. The MPV has scored 3 stars for adult occupant protection.
The Kia Carens is one of Kia’s most important products in India. It was launched in February this year and remains a hot seller to date. Global NCAP has conducted crash tests on it and has revealed of a paltry score of 9.30/17.00 for adult occupant protection and 30.99/49.00 for child occupant protection. This gives it a 3 star score for both the categories. The structure has also been rated as unstable and unable to withstand further loadings. The result makes the Carens the second Kia in India to be crash tested after the Seltos which also received a poor score of 3 stars. These two also form as the highest selling cars of the carmaker and have waiting periods running into several months. The Seltos had received 8.03/17.00 for adult occupant protection and 15.00/49.00 for child occupant protection. Rumoured to based on the same platform, the Seltos has actually scored worse although the difference is negligible.
The Kia Carens was launched with standard safety kit such as ABS, 6 airbags, ESC, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, disc brakes on all ends etc. Kia had also said that they had used a lot of High Strength Steel in the construction of the Carens.
The Kia Carens competes with cars such as the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo and is offered with 2 petrol and 1 diesel engines. It also gets 6-seater and 7-seater variants.
