ŠKODA India has planned four new models which fall under their 2.0 product campaign. The king happens to be the first car of those four, who is the king? ŠKODA plans to name this mid-sized Suv KUSHAQ, which has been derived from a word called ‘kushak’ in the Sanskrit language that means emperor/king.
Kushaq is a production-ready car based on Vision IN, a concept car that was showcased in early 2020. It is based on MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) platform, yes it was difficult to read, we can help you, MQB can also be called Modular Transversal Toolkit, which is the company’s strategy for shared modular design construction of its transverse, front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout automobiles.
ŠKODA Auto India plans a global unveil, of the KUSHAQ on 18th of March 2021, in India. The auto manufacturer has a smart idea to develop an interest in auto enthusiasts and has teased few interior sketches to give a glimpse of the cabin interiors.
At first glance at the sketch and the steering wheel catches our attention, we have seen three-spoke steering wheels to be common these days, but Kushaq gets a newly designed two-spoke steering wheel. There is an interesting story behind the two spoke. The two-spoke steering wheel was famous on the FELICIA cabriolet from 1959. The most latest ŠKODA with two-spoke steering was the ŠKODA Favorit (1987-1995). The recent idea behind bringing the two-spoked steering wheel back in ŠKODA cars was tested on Fourth-Gen Skoda Octavia(2020), not on the Indian spec. The same steering has been derived for Kushaq.
The central element in the interior of the new ŠKODA Kushaq is a free-standing infotainment display with a screen diagonal of up to 10 inches. The interior design sketch also clearly shows the character line running beneath it, echoing the symmetrical contours of the ŠKODA grille. The dimensions of the Kushaq correspond to those of a mid-size vehicle. At the same time, the new SUV model for the Indian market offers generous space as well as numerous storage options and ŠKODA’s signature Simply Clever details. The technical development is being carried out at ŠKODA AUTO’s Technology Centre in Pune with a planned 95 % localization level for the new vehicles.
Since the car will be launched later this month pricing will be a bit tricky. The most entry-level car from ŠKODA India until now was the ŠKODA Fabia. We expect this to compete with Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Ford Ecosport.
- Estimated Price of Kushaq: 10lacs to 15lacs (This estimate is based on our experience)
