Mahindra ScorpioN scores 5 star in crash test rating; Swift and Ignis also tested

In its latest round of crash test, Global NCAP has tested the Mahindra ScorpioN which scored 5 stars in the Adult Occupant Protection category. The agency also tested the Maruti Swift, Ignis and S-Presso under the new protocols and all the three models received only a single-star rating.

Mahindra ScorpioN

In a show of strength by Mahindra, the ScorpioN scored a full 5 star rating for Adult Occupant Protection with a score of 29.25. Child Occupant rating was 3 stars with a score of 28.93. This makes it the safest Body-On-Frame SUV in India, claims Mahindra. The 5 star score is also a remarkable improvement over the previous generation Scorpio’s 0 star rating back in 2016.

The ScorpioN gets various features such as 6 airbags, Hill Descent Control, ESC, Rollover Mitigation, all-wheel disc brakes, VDC, front and rear parking sensors and more. It is available with a 2.0L Petrol and 2.2L Diesel engine options with both Automatic and Manual transmissions. You can watch our review of the Mahindra ScorpioN here for more details.

Maruti Swift

The second crash test conducted was on the Maruti Swift which scored just 1 star in Adult Occupant Protection with a low score of just 19.19 points. Child Occupant Protection is also rated at just 1 star with a score of mere 16.68 points. The Swift was also tested back in 2018 when it also scored 2 stars in each category. However, Global NCAP has since revised its rating process which is now more stringent under the updated protocols.

The Maruti Swift is offered in Petrol and CNG-powered versions with a choice of AMT and Manual transmissions. Safety features include standard Dual Airbags, speed sensing door locks, ESP(Only in AMT) and more.

Maruti S-Presso

The Maruti S-Presso also scored a mere 1 star rating in the recent round of crash tests. The score has been revised to 20.03 for Adult Occupant Protection while Child Occupant Rating is just 3.52 which gives it zero stars. The S-Presso had scored zero stars in the previous crash test conducted in 2020.

The S-Presso is one of Maruti’s entry level offerings and offers safety features such as Dual Airbags, ABS, ESP (AMT only). It is offered with a choice of Petrol and CNG-powered powertrains.

Maruti Ignis

The third Maruti tested- Ignis has also scored a 1 star rating in the Adult Occupant Protection with a score of just 16.48. Child Occupant Rating is a mere 3.86 which gives it zero stars. Global NCAP has also rated the bodyshell as unstable.

The Ignis is offered with safety features such as Dual Airbags, ABS, Rear parking camera and ISOFIX child seat anchorange points. The Ignis is powered by a 1.2L K-series petrol engine mated to either an AMT or Manual transmissions.
