Mahindra has taken the wraps off the XUV400 which is their first electric SUV. Based on the XUV300 crossover, it gets segment leading range and many updates in addition to the all-electric powertrain.
The new XUV400 takes inspiration from the eXUV300 concept and is the first of a slew of upcoming Mahindra EVs. Although based on the XUV300, it gets a bigger body which now measures 4200mm which is an increase of 205mm. The added length means the SUV looks much more proportionate than its ICE-powered sibling. Mahindra also claims its the widest C segment SUV with a width of 1821mm. Other changes to the exterior include new bumpers, alloy wheels, a faux grille, revised taillamps and copper accents all over including the twin-peaks logo.
Talking of the powertrain, the XUV400 uses a 39.4 kWh lithium-ion battery which gives it a claimed range of 456Km on a full charge. The motor produces 150HP and 310NM which takes the XUV400 from 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds. Fast charging is also available with the ability to charge the car to 80% within 50 minutes from a 50kW DC charger. Top speed is rated at 150Kmph.
Talking of the features, it receives an electric sunroof, OTA updates and connectivity features, a “Lively” mode to enable one-pedal driving, dual-zone climate control, 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, Driving modes etc. Further, there is now 378 litres of boot space as claimed by Mahindra. The interiors also see an all-black theme with glossy plastic trims are various places along with copper accents.
The new XUV400 will be available in 5 colour options- Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue with dual tone roof options in Satin Copper finish. Mahindra has said that the test drives will be available December 2022 onwards with the launch happening in January 2023. It will be available in 16 cities in the phase 1 of bookings. The new XUV400 will compete with the Tata Nexon EV and MG ZS EV.
