Maruti has announced the arrival of its upcoming hybrid SUV based on the same platform as the recently unveiled Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The SUV will apparently be called the Grand Vitara, a name revived after it was last seen on their imported SUV in the late 2000s. It will be revealed on 20th July.
The new Grand Vitara will be based on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and is expected to be available with a 1.5L K15C Petrol engine as well as a 1.5L TNGA Petrol Hybrid powertrain. The teasers from Maruti also point out to an optional All-Wheel-Drive system which Suzuki calls the All-Grip. This will, however only be available with the 1.5L NA Petrol engine.
Features such as a panoramic sunroof, 360 degree cameras, Ventilated seats and drive modes are also expected to be on offer.
The new Grand Vitara will be based on Suzuki’s Global C Platform which also underpins their several global products such as the S-Cross and Vitara. This will be the first Maruti Suzuki jointly developed with Toyota in India.
Maruti has also opened pre-bookings for the new Grand Vitara. The SUV is available to book through Maruti’s premium NEXA dealership network or through NEXA’s official website. After launch, it will be Maruti’s new flagship and we expect it to be priced between Rs. 13-20 Lakh (ex-showroom). It will go against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and Toyota Hyryder among others.
