Maruti has launched the Baleno and XL6 S-CNG variants today. These mark the entry of CNG variants in Maruti’s premium dealership network known as the Nexa and become the first offerings in their segments to offer such an option. Pricing starts at Rs. 8.28 lakhs and Rs. 12.24 Lakhs respectively.
Baleno S-CNG
The Baleno S-CNG becomes the entry-level CNG offering from Maruti’s Nexa range and is powered by a 1.2L K12N engine paired to a 5 speed Manual transmission. The Baleno is able to churn out a figure of 77.5HP and 98.5NM while running on CNG- a drop from the 90HP and 113NM made on petrol. The S-CNG variant also gets a 55-litre CNG tank in the boot. Maruti claims the car gives a mileage of 30.61km/kg while running on CNG.
Besides this, the car gets dual-interdependent ECUs, a microswitch to prevent the car from starting while refuelling and stainless steel pipes for the CNG system. There are no other changes to the car compared to the standard petrol-powered Baleno. It is available in two trims- Delta and Zeta which are priced at a premium of Rs. 95,000 over their petrol counterparts. This makes the S-CNG variants priced at Rs. 8.28 Lakhs and Rs. 9.21 Lakhs (Ex-showroom) respectively.
XL6 S-CNG
The new XL6 S-CNG gets propelled by a 1.5L K15C engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission. Power figures while running CNG are rated at 88HP and 121.5Nm. This is a slight drop from the 101hp and 136Nm produced in petrol mode. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 26.32Km/Kg. A CNG tank of 66L capacity is placed in the boot. There are no further changes to the equipment list compared to its petrol-only variants. It is available only in the entry-level Zeta trim and is priced at Rs. 12.24 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).
