Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series launched in India for INR 5.50 Crores

Mercedes Benz India has launched its most powerful AMG model in the country, the GT Black Series. Delivered to famous car fanatic Boopesh Reddy, this is the first of two Black Series’ allocated to India.

The GT Black Series comes equipped with the most powerful AMG V8 engine coming out of Affalterbach. It is just the 6th car in the German automaker’s stable bearing the revered badge of ‘Black Series’; a badge given only to the most hard-core track weapons by AMG.

Engine in the GT Black Series:

As mentioned, the GT Black series comes with the most powerful engine the brand has ever produced. It’s the similar 4.0L V8 Bi-Turbo engine seen on previous iterations of the GT, albeit with significant construction changes. The engine now has a flat-plane crankshaft setup and bigger turbochargers that bump up the power and torque figures to an outrageous 730hp and 800Nm. All that power goes to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission; reinforced for higher torque and improved launch control. A 0-100kmph sprint takes a mere 3.2s and a 0-200kmph dash of only 9s, going all the way to a top speed of 325kmph.

The GT Black is the current record holder for the fastest series production car around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife track. This machine takes a time of 6:43.616 minutes around the Green Hell, snatching the previous record held by Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

Aero and Suspension:

Being a car bred for the race-track, the Black Series gets a host of advancements on the aerodynamics front. Notably, there is a new carbon fibre front splitter and lip that can even be manually adjusted depending on requirement. The bonnet is now made completely out of carbon fibre with two large air inlets for enhanced cooling. There are even ducts over the front wheels arches to relieve pressure from the wheel wells to maximise downforce. At the rear, the star of the show is a massive adjustable wing with active aero, in addition to a carbon fibre rear diffuser at the bottom.

Suspension improvements include stiffer coil springs with adaptive dampers and manually adjustable anti-roll bars for the front and rear axles. Brakes are standard carbon ceramics for significantly greater stopping performance.

Design updates on the GT Black Series:

Design updates are aplenty in the latest Black Series iteration by AMG. The biggest change in design is up front, where the front grille has given way for a much larger, GT3 race car inspired nose. Carbon fibre elements are scattered all around the car, with the roof, hood, and boot door all made out carbon to keep the weight down. 10-spoke matt black wheels come as standard, 19in for the front and 20in for the rear. Smaller changes on the inside include carbon fibre bucket seats and a steering wheel with the ‘Black Series’ lettering.

Price and Availability:

The GT Black Series starts from an eye watering INR 5.50 Crores, with the price increasing as per individual configurations. Around 1700 units were produced, out of which only 2 are destined for India. Production of the GT Black Series has officially ended as of date, so even if you do wish to buy one, you sure are out of luck!
