Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift – Exterior Design

The overall silhouette of the Mercedes-Benz  GLE remains unchanged, continuing with its familiar and muscular stance. However, the front fascia has been significantly redesigned.

The SUV now gets new LED headlamps with twin tri arrow shaped DRLs, giving it a more aggressive look. The grille has also been reworked, featuring a mix of piano black and chrome elements along with multiple Mercedes star motifs and a large central logo. On the sides, there are minimal changes. The profile remains identical to the outgoing model, with the same proportions and stance that define the GLE.

At the rear, the biggest update comes in the form of a connected tail lamp setup. A black panel links the two tail lamps, and the lights now feature three dimensional star elements. Mercedes calls this new setup Digital Lighting, claiming a 40 percent increase in resolution and a lighting range of up to 600 metres, although these figures are for global specifications.

Mercedes has also introduced a new Patagonia Red metallic shade and three new 20 inch alloy wheel designs. For the coupe version, the changes are mostly similar at the front, but at the rear, it retains its sloping roofline and does not get the connected tail lamp design.

Mercedes-Benz GLE – Interior Design And Features

The Mercedes-Benz GLE’s cabin sees one of the biggest upgrades with the introduction of the new super screen layout. This consists of three 12.3 inch displays, one for the driver, one for infotainment, and one for the passenger.

The system runs the latest version of MBUX, offering improved responsiveness and features. Interestingly, Mercedes has retained physical controls for HVAC and key functions, which adds to usability.  Interior options now include new colour themes like red and black dual tone, along with existing options such as black, macchiato beige, and bahia brown. Nappa leather upholstery is also available, along with new aluminium trim elements with flowing patterns.

The AMG Line gets sport seats, while comfort features include a panoramic sunroof as standard, optional rear sunblinds, and flexible rear seat configurations including 40 20 40 split. Audio duties are handled by Burmester 3D surround sound system, now upgraded to 15 speakers with 710 watts of output and Dolby Atmos support.

The GLE also gets an advanced cabin air filtration system that can refresh the air every 90 seconds, along with Magic Vision Control for improved windshield cleaning. Boot space stands at 630 litres and can be expanded up to 2055 litres with the rear seats folded.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift – Engine Options

Globally, the Mercedes-Benz GLE continues with a wide range of petrol, diesel, and electrified options.

The range topping GLE 580 features a twin turbo V8 engine producing 537 hp and 750 Nm, which is a slight bump over before. The GLE 450 uses a 3 litre inline 6 petrol engine with 381 hp and 560 Nm, now improved with a stronger electric auxiliary compressor. A new plug in hybrid GLE 450e has also been introduced, offering additional electric boost and a claimed electric only range of around 35 km.

Diesel options include the GLE 350d and GLE 450d, with unchanged outputs. All engines continue to be paired with a 9 speed automatic transmission and all wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift – AMG Variant

The AMG version continues to be offered as the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53. The mild hybrid version uses a 3 litre inline 6 engine with 48V assistance, producing 449 hp and 600 Nm. There is also a plug in hybrid AMG variant, which combines the petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 585 hp and 750 Nm. Performance figures include a 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph, making it quicker than before.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift – Expected India Launch And Pricing

Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed the India launch timeline for the updated GLE. Currently, the GLE in India is offered in 300d, 450 petrol, and 450d variants, with prices ranging from 98 lakh rupees to 1.14 crore rupees ex showroom.

With the updates and rising input costs, a price increase of a few lakh rupees is expected when the facelift arrives in India.
