Porsche 911 992.2 facelift: what’s new

With the facelift, Porsche is aiming to modernise the iconic 911 with better technology and minor cosmetic tweaks. Outside, the front indicators are now fully integrated within the LED headlamps freeing up space below for larger air vents resulting in a slightly tweaked bumper. The 911 GTS meanwhile also gets Active air cooling flaps on the vents. At the rear, the connected LED strip has been updated along with a new bumper and rear grille.

On the inside, the changes are less noticeable. For the first time, the 911 gets a fully-digital 12.6 inch instrument cluster along with a cooled wireless charger and a new UI for the infotainment system. It now supports apps such as Spotify and Apple Music natively without using a smartphone and can also project the same in the instrument cluster. The earlier uniquely shaped start/stop switch has also been swapped out for a conventional one.

Under the hood, the 911 continues with a 3.0L six-cylinder boxer engine as before. However, it is now twin-turbocharged as standard and also gets a new intercooler from the older GTS version. The result of this is increased power figures at 394HP and 450NM of torque. The 911 Carrera 4 GTS on the other hand gets a hybrid powertrain for the first time with a 3.6L turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine along with a 1.9kWh electric battery. The combined output of the two is 541HP and 610NM which is a noticeable 61HP more than it’s predecessor. Both engines come mated to an 8 speed PDK dual-clutch transmission as standard. Additionally, the GTS also boasts of a sportier exhaust system, variable dampers, dynamic chassis control and standard rear-axle steering.

Talking of the prices, Porsche has announced a huge hike with the 911 Carrera priced at Rs. 1.99 Crore and the 911 Carrera 4 GTS coming in at Rs. 2.75 Crore (all prices Ex-showroom before options). Interestingly, the sportier GT3 version is also priced similar to the GTS, however, it along with other 911 versions continue as pre-facelift models in India currently. Porsche says deliveries of the 911 992.2 shall commence by the end of this year.

The Porsche 911 competes with other sportscars such as the Aston Martin Vantage, Ferrari Roma, Lamborghini Huracan Evo, Lexus LC500h and others.
