Talking about design, the Golf GTI features a sharper front fascia with matrix LED headlights, a honeycomb-patterned grille with GTI badging, and a bold bumper. The rear features a revised diffuser, updated taillights, and dual exhausts. The 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels and GTI logos on the grille, fenders, and tailgate complete the sporty appearance.

Inside, the GTI retains classic elements like tartan-patterned sport seats, red stitching, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The cabin features soft-touch materials, metal pedals, ambient lighting, and a mix of modern tech with GTI design cues.

Key features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, ChatGPT integration, automatic climate control, a Head-Up Display, and ADAS functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and emergency braking. The car also includes GTI-specific drive modes and a VAQ limited-slip differential.

Volkswagen has reported a 3% year-to-date sales growth as of February 2025 compared to the previous year, marking a strong start. While the Golf GTI will cater to enthusiasts, the Tiguan R-Line aligns with India’s growing SUV market. However, high import duties may pose pricing challenges. Volkswagen’s strategy will determine the models’ success in strengthening its premium market footprint.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

The Golf GTI will make its India debut after the Polo GTI’s limited run in 2016. It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, delivering 265hp and 370Nm torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. Volkswagen claims a 0-100kph acceleration of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 250kph.

The design features Volkswagen’s signature styling with matrix LED headlights, a honeycomb-patterned front bumper, and 18-inch ‘Richmond’ alloy wheels. It also sports GTI badges on the grille, fenders, and tailgate, along with a dual exhaust system and a dynamic rear diffuser.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line

The Tiguan R-Line is a sportier version of the standard Tiguan, with cosmetic enhancements but no mechanical changes. It adopts Volkswagen’s new curvier design, improving aerodynamics with a reduced drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd. It features IQ Light HD Matrix headlights with 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs and a thin LED strip connecting them. The rear includes an LED tail light integrated into a black panel across the tailgate.

Additional elements include an R-Line grille, dual-tone alloy wheels, and dual-tip exhaust outlets. It retains the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 190PS and 320Nm torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox that powers all four wheels.

Skoda has re-launched the current generation Superb in India at a price of Rs. 54 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). The executive sedan was discontinued a year back due to the introduction of BS6.2 emission norms. According to Skoda, strong demand from customers prompted them to bring back an updated version.

Skoda Superb; what’s changed

Not much has changed with the re=introduced models, however there are some notable changes. These include new Water World Green and Rosso Brunello paint options in addition to the existing Magic Black colour. Outside, we can also see new 18 inch “Propus Aero” alloy wheels with a similar design to what was offered in the Octavia. Inside, the car gets a new 9 inch “Columbus” touchscreen infotainment system which is further paired to an 11 speaker 610W Canton sound system with a subwoofer. Additionally, it now comes with 9 airbags, highline TPMS, park assist and driver drowsiness detection.

Under the hood it remains powered by the same 2.0L TSI turbo-petrol engine making 190HP and 320NM of torque. This can only be had paired to a 7 speed DSG automatic transmission. Though figures remain the same, the powertrain now complies with the BS6.2 emissions norms. The only notable addition here is the Dynamic Chassis Control to aid handling and ride quality.

The 2024 Superb will be available in a single top-end L&K variant priced at Rs. 54 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). However, this time around it will be brought in as a completely-built unit (CBU) unlike previously when it was assembled locally which has led to an increase in price by more than Rs. 16 Lakhs due to higher taxes. Skoda has also said that only 100 units of the sedan will be on sale with deliveries set to commence by the end of this month. The 2024 Skoda Superb will compete with the Toyota Camry.
