Toyota Innova Hycross – Crash Test Scores Explained

The Toyota Innova Hycross was tested under India’s revised BNCAP norms which now follow AIS-197 protocols designed to reflect global crash protocols. The models tested were both the Hybrid Electric variant and the regular petrol variant.

The Toyota Innova Hycross scored 30.47 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection. It secured 14.47/16 in the frontal offset test and a full 16/16 in the side impact test. The side pole impact test was rated as ‘OK’.

In both the frontal and side impact tests, the Toyota Innova Hycross demonstrated minimal intrusion into the passenger compartment. Front seat occupants were protected by frontal airbags, pretensioners, load limiters, and a standard driver knee airbag. These results contributed significantly to the 5-star rating.

The Toyota Innova Hycross scored 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. It achieved a perfect 24/24 in the dynamic test and 12/12 for CRS installation. The vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13. The Toyota Innova Hycross is equipped with ISOFIX mounts and supports i-Size compliant child restraint systems, tested for both 18-month and 3-year-old dummies in rearward-facing positions. A manual front airbag cut-off switch is also standard, adding another layer of protection.

The Innova is available with two petrol engine options. The first is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 172 bhp and 205 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox. The second is a 2.0-litre strong hybrid engine that delivers a combined output of 184 bhp and is mated to an e-CVT. This hybrid setup combines a petrol motor with an electric drive system for better efficiency as claimed by Toyota.

The Innova Hycross now competes with popular monocoque SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700 Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and Jeep Meridian appealing to buyers seeking a spacious, feature-rich, and hybrid-powered alternative to traditional SUVs.
