Porsche is a carmaker well-known to make some of the most iconic stuff of all time. And what could be more characteristically Porsche than the 911 range? We had the opportunity to try out every flavour of the 911 right from the standard, purist Carerra, to the GTS Hybrid— a true marvel of technology topping it up with the enthusiast favourite GT3RS. That’s not all though. The tasty GT4RS, arguably a more nimble and agile track weapon also made an appearance as did the full range of modern electrics, including the Taycan and Macan EVs.

However, before I talk about the track, Porsche had a surprise waiting for us. Our first task for the day— taking the Cayenne range of SUVs off-road! With a curated off-road track with obstacles such as chicken holes, steep climbs, banking angles and more, the Cayenne frankly felt extremely capable. Now who would think a Porsche would perform so well off the beaten path?

Next up was the track day, a marvellous two laps in the EVs, 911s and the GT4RS each felt surreal. Now, each car was incredibly fun although I still felt more of a connect with the purist favourite Carrera. There’s just something about an unadulterated experience that truly stands out. A simply flat-six, comfortable suspension yet with the raunchy looks, the oh-so-tight handling and the ability to go really fast. The GT3RS was a whole different spectrum however. A track weapon like none-else, one simply wonders how it could be bettered in the next avatar? It’s a bit too perfect— even for a Porsche! Something to ponder about.

A quick briefing later, it was time to experience the glory of electrification with the Taycan Turbo GT. Holding the title of the fastest production electric on the Yas Marina Circuit, Dubai, the 2.2 second 0-100kmph time sounds unrealistic. But when the car squats down preparing to launch itself, you realise it means business. Oh and business it meant. With an absolute razor sharp response, its speed feels like it might just beat the latest Apollo spacecraft. There must be some sorcery involved in developing the technology behind it!

The last task for the day was a quick slalom course in the 718 Spyder RS. While just recovering from the bone-tingling Turbo GT run, it provides a completely different perspective. That of absolute precision and how Porsche makes such good-handling cars. It’s not a small car, but it feels like driving a motorcycle— so quick on its feet. A bit sad though that the course got over much before I wanted to let go of the car!

Concluding the day with an extensive shoot of the entire lineup, it felt a bit of an iconic day. Just like the Porsche brand is etched in every enthusiasts mind worldwide, here I was getting to experience the DNA one car at a time.

The hybrid supercar is equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and three electric motors, generating a combined 920 bhp and 1,029 Nm of torque. The engine produces 789 bhp and 729 Nm, while the electric motors contribute 148 bhp and 300 Nm. Power is transmitted via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A 3.8 kWh battery supports the hybrid system and can be charged in 30 minutes with a 7 kW AC charger.

The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 340 kmph. Lamborghini claims the V8 engine revs up to 10,000 rpm, making it the highest-revving V8 in any production vehicle. Though the Temerario comes with all-wheel drive, it stands out as the first Lamborghini to offer a dedicated drift mode.

The Temerario features Lamborghini’s familiar wedge-shaped body, low profile, and aerodynamic design. The front includes sharp lines and LED headlights with hexagonal DRLs. At the rear, a central exhaust system is positioned between hexagonal tail-lamps.

The interior houses a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 9.1-inch passenger screen, and an 8.4-inch vertical infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new three-spoke steering wheel is included, along with five drive modes: Citta (FWD, fully electric), Strada, Sport and Corsa.

Customers can reserve the vehicle through Maruti’s official website or at nearby dealerships. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly.

The revised lineup now includes 18 distinct variants, all of which come with six airbags as standard. Several trims—specifically Zeta (O), Zeta+ (O), Alpha (O), and Alpha+ (O)—also offer a panoramic sunroof. The Strong Hybrid version is now available in the mid-tier Delta Plus variant, while the AWD trim now gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, replacing the previously available manual gearbox.

Key additions to the feature list include an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an electronic parking brake, a cabin air purifier with PM2.5 display, rear sunshades, and LED lighting inside the cabin. Other highlights across the range include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver display (limited to the hybrid model), ventilated front seats, a heads-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ambient lighting, Arkamys-tuned audio, and connected car features.

On the safety front, the SUV includes electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and hill descent control, among others.

Two engine options remain available. The first is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol motor producing 103 hp and 135 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. AWD is also offered with the automatic transmission,

The second engine is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder Atkinson cycle strong hybrid unit sourced from Toyota, generating a combined output of 115 hp. Paired with an e-CVT gearbox, this hybrid variant offers a claimed fuel economy of 27.97 km/l.

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is essentially the sportier version of the regular Tiguan and features sporty design elements, additional features and more. The new Tiguan is based on the MQB ‘evo’ platform and measures 4539mm in length, 1639mm in height, and 1842mm in width heavily restyled Tiguan is 30mm longer and has 2680mm of wheelbase. In terms of design, the SUV gets VW’s new design language and features a curvy design compared to the outgoing model, which has boxy dimensions and straight lines.

This new design has helped VW to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd (down from 0.33Cd). It gets sleek IQ Light HD Matrix headlights, which can deploy 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs. The Tiguan R Line will be offered in six colour options – Persimmon Red Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect, Cipressino Green Metallic, and Oyster Silver Metallic.

Moving inside, the new Tiguan gets a newly designed dashboard with a 15.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The gear selector is integrated into the steering column and it also gets a HUD display. Features include massaging front seats, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a rotary controller with an inbuilt OLED screen, ADAS, Park Assist Pro, remote parking capability and much more.

Talking about the engine, it gets the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 190 PS of power and 320 nm torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels.

The AVAS is a technology implemented in electric and hybrid vehicles to boost pedestrian safety. Since these vehicles operate quietly at low speeds, AVAS generates artificial sounds to alert pedestrians, including those with visual impairments, in environments like parking areas, urban streets, and residential zones. The sound is engineered to be clearly perceptible without being overly intrusive, thereby mitigating the risk of accidents associated with silent vehicle operation.

Powertrain Options

The Toyota Innova Hycross gets two distinct petrol engine options – Naturally Aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit producing 173 hp and 209 Nm of torque, exclusively mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Another engine is the 2.0-litre hybrid petrol engine delivering a combined output of 184 hp, paired with an e-Drive transmission.

Both engine variants are available only with front-wheel drive, with no manual transmission option provided. According to Toyota, the hybrid variant achieves a fuel efficiency of 23.24 kpl, while the conventional petrol version offers 16.13 kpl.

In terms of features, the car comes with a prominent 10.1-inch floating touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It includes ventilated front seats, a driver’s seat memory function, ambient lighting, and a powered tailgate with a rear sunshade. Additional highlights are a 360-degree camera, a semi-digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a powered leg rest for the second row, quilted leather upholstery, and a high-quality 9-speaker JBL sound system, among other amenities.

On the safety side, the vehicle is outfitted with six airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill-Hold Assist, and TPMS. It also features advanced driver assistance systems, such as lane-keeping support, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, automatic high beams, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Toyota has launched a new generation of their luxury sedan, the Camry at a price of Rs. 48 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). It remains powered by a 2.5L petrol engine paired to a strong hybrid powertrain.

2024 Toyota Camry: Design

While still being based on the TNGA-K platform as the previous model, the new Camry gets major improvements. The styling is all new with a modern look at the front and a “hammerhead” design in-line with Toyota’s global design language. The headlamps now get an LED bi-projector setup with swanky C-shaped DRLs. Below this sits a massive grille which also houses LED foglamps. Towards the side, one can see the resemblance with the previous generation although there are new character lines and the design for the 18 inch alloy wheels has been updated.

Towards the rear, it gets Lexus-inspired C shaped LED taillamps with sharper creases on the boot as well as a new bumper.

2024 Toyota Camry: Interior & Features

Interiors have been comprehensively updated as well with a brand new dashboard design and brown upholstery replacing the beige one. At the centre sits a 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment with Wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay. It gets paired to a 9 speaker JBL sound system. As for the driver, the instrument cluster is also fully-digital now with a 12.3 inch screen. Other features additions include a Heads-up display, wireless smartphone charger, 360 degree camera, tri-zone climate control, 10-way power adjustable front seats with adjustable lumbar support along with reclining rear seats.

As for safety, it gets 9 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESC, Electronic Parking Brake with Autohold, TPMS, Hill Start Assist along with a range of ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, Lane Keep Assist, Auto high beam, Emergency braking and more.

2024 Toyota Camry: Powertrain & Rivals

Under the bonnet, the Camry gets powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder petrol engine paired to a strong hybrid system which delivers a combined of 230HP and 429NM of torque. This gets paired to an eCVT transmission. Toyota claims that it will do an ARAI-certified 25.49 Kmpl.

The Camry has been launched in a single variant for a price of Rs. 48 Lakhs (Ex-showroom)and will be assembled as a CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) unit at Toyota’s facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. It is available in six colours- Cement Grey, Attitude Black, Dark Blue, Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl and Precious Metal.

The lone rival for the Camry stands to be the Skoda Superb.

BMW India has launched the latest generation of their performance sedan, the M5. Codenamed the G90, it is priced at Rs. 1.99 Crore (Ex-showroom) and for the first time gets a strong hybrid powertrain.

BMW M5: Design & Interiors 

As with previous M5s, the new version also gets sportier styling compared to the regular 5 series sedan. At the front, the grille gets the gloss black treatment and a more aggressive bumper with a wider air dam. Towards the side, the new M5 gets 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels. Then there is also the chunkier and sportier side sills and the flared wheel arches. At the rear, it gets a new spoiler as well as a very aggressive bumper with black chrome quad exhausts and a diffuser as well. There are also vertical cuts on either sides housing the reflector.

For India, BMW is also offering the M Carbon package as standard which adds carbon fibre mirror caps, rear spoiler and carbon roof which saves about 30KGs of weight. Alternatively, buyers can also spec it with a panoramic sunroof.

Inside, there is a new leather steering wheel with a flat bottom and red marker at the top. It also gets BMW’s ‘Curved Display’ which houses the digital gauge cluster as well as the touchscreen infotainment system which now runs on iDrive 8.5. There is also new ambient lighting, new gear shift knob and M Multifunction seats with an illuminated M5 logo. Music is put out through an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system which also gets a 655W amplifier.

BMW M5: Performance

Under the hood is where the new M5 has gained much more power. For the first time ever, the M5 gets powered by a strong hybrid powertrain making use of a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 paired to an 8 speed torque converter and an electric drive unit with an 18.6kWh battery pack. The engine alone makes 585HP and 750NM of torque while the electric motor adds another 197HP and 280NM. Combined, it puts out an astonishing 727HP and 1000NM of torque. According to BMW, the battery offers the M5 an all-electric range of 69Kms (WLTP).

Driving the wheels is an M xDrive all-wheel-drive system which gets rear biased in the Sport mode while also offering drivers the option to exclusively drive the rear wheels. The M5 is also equipped with an adaptive M suspension with electronic dampers as well as rear axle steering which steers the rear wheels by upto 1.5 degrees to aid in handling.

Courtesy to all this gadgetry, the M5 sprints from 0-100Kmph in just 3.5 seconds. Top speed for the G90 M5 is 250Kmph which can be further raised to 305Kmph with an optional M Driver’s Package. BMW also says that it will reach a top speed of 140Kmph in an all-electric mode. Further, optioning the M Professional package, the left paddleshift also gets a ‘Boost’ feature which adds short bursts of power when activated via the electric drive unit. An optional M Drive Professional package also unlocks ‘TRACK’ mode along with a lap timer and a Boost Control function.

BMW M5: Price, Rivals

For India, BMW has priced the M5 at Rs. 1.99 Crores (Ex-showroom) without options. Imported as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit), it gets ten standard exterior colour options- Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Fire Red, Carbon Black, Isle of Man Green, Storm Bay, Marina Bay Blue, Frozen Deep Grey. Further the full leather Merino upholstery inside can be had in Red-Black, Kyalami Orange, Silverstone-Black and Black colour themes. Customers will also be able to customise other paint finishes as an option. BMW will also offer a host of accessories such as carbon fibre rear diffuser, side skirts, side decals, tail pipe finisher and more.

In terms of rivals, the M5 will compete with other performance sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 S E Performance and Porsche Panamera among others.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG C63 S E Performance in India at a price of Rs. 1.95 Cr.(Ex-showroom). For the first time, the C63 sports-sedan gets 4 fewer cylinders along with plug-in hybrid technology.

Mercedes AMG C63 S E Performance: Design & Interiors 

Being one of the sport sedans in the lineup, the C63 has been given a complete makeover with sportier exteriors and elements such as a rear diffuser, 20 inch forged AMG alloys wheels, quad exhausts and more aggressive air intakes all around. Inside, the sporty theme continues with the addition of sport seats draped in Nappa leather and with ventilation function and carbon fibre trim being part of the long list.

In terms of features, it gets a heads-up display, a 15 speaker 710W Burmester surround sound system, 12.3 inch infotainment touchscreen with MBUX and a whole lot more.

Mercedes AMG C63 S E Performance: Powertrain & Performance 

It is under the hood where the C63 S remains most impressive. In a radical shift, this generation gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine along with an electric motor instead of the V8 we have seen in C63s till now. According to Mercedes, this is the most powerful production four-cylinder engine ever made pushing out 476HP and 545NM of torque. When combined with the electric motor, it produces 680HP and 1020NM of torque. Mercedes claims a range of 13Km from the 6.1kWh battery while driving in pure EV mode.

Driving the wheels is a 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system which makes use of the electric motor on the rear axle with the engine driving the front wheels. According to Mercedes, it will do the 0-100Kmph run in just 3.4 seconds till it reaches a top speed of 280Kmph. The clever AWD gets a “drift mode” as well which sends all of the power to the rear axle if required.

Further, the C63 also gets rear-axle steering, 4 drive modes, adaptive suspension with 3 modes as well as composite brakes with red brake calipers as parts of the equipment list.

Mercedes AMG C63 S E Performance: Price & Rivals

Mercedes Benz has priced the AMG C63 S E Performance at Rs. 1.95 Crore(Ex-showroom). It will also offer a high degree of customisation including exclusive interiors and exterior colours as well as other add-ons. Bookings are open with deliveries scheduled to begin in second quarter of 2025. Further, Mercedes will offer a complimentary opportunity for buyers to drive on the Nürburgring race circuit.

The Mercedes AMG C63 S E Performance competes with other sports-sedans such as the BMW M4 CS and Audi RS5.

The Urban Burden

It is a proven fact that most private cars in India spend a lot more time inside the city than outside it. For these sort of uses, the City is a good choice with a smooth CVT automatic and a refined engine. However, the Elevate is just a tad bit better in this scenario. Using the same powertrain, it has the advantages in the form of a smaller length and a commanding driving position making tight city manoeuvres that much easier. Driving it for longer stretches in bumper to bumper traffic is also effortless in comparison given the better road presence and a more upright seating position.

Highway By the Way

Out on the open roads however, if you are going to clock significant kilometres the City comes out on the top. The massive boot outsizes the Elevate’s by a good 48L worth of luggage space that is also shaped better. The lower height and correspondingly lower centre of gravity also ensures a more planted feel on the road. During long stretches you will also come to appreciate the slightly more premium feeling materials used inside and the cleaner, smarter look of the dashboard which is easier on your eyes.

Rough and Tough

Smooth roads are sort of a luxury in India. Potholes, waterlogging and washed out asphalt is anything but uncommon. This is the environment where one comes to appreciates the Elevate a lot more. The ground clearance being rated at 220mm is an astounding 55mm more than the City. The difference is not just felt but also brings a sense of peace while dealing with these shenanigans. The Elevate also has the cushier and more compliant suspension for when the going gets tough.

High Mileage Hero

When you have a running exceeding 1000kms a month, fuel costs can upset your wallet by a good amount. And this is where the City has the most clear, unmatched advantage in the form of the strong-hybrid powertrain option. This e:HEV variant can even deliver an excess of 25Kmpl and a massive range well north of 800kms on a single tank. These figures easily payback the initial increase in prices and are unmatched by other petrol sedans and even ups some diesels in its price range too! Sadly, Honda has confirmed that the Elevate is not going to get a hybrid powertrain in the near future. A pure EV version is in the works though launch is far away.

Tech Check

Fond of the latest gadgetry? Both the cars fare well here with a very similar equipment list. Both get auto headlamps, single pane sunroof, keyless entry-go, wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, connected car tech and a semi-digital instrument cluster as standard. A slight edge to the Elevate here is the newer 10.25 inch touchscreen while the City only gets the 8 inch unit. The newer unit has a better resolution and a crisp response which makes a slight difference. On the other hand, the City gets the addition of lowline TPMS which is missing on the Elevate.

The Fundamental Value Seeker

If hunting for the best value-for-money is your thing and the base SV and V variants are being considered, it is easy to see why the City comes out on top. Among other things, the City gets a rear armrest, 4 airbags (instead of 2), rear camera, Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity, rear centre headrest, rear defogger and a 3 point seatbelt for the middle passenger as standard which are not present on the base Elevate. Honda also provides adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist from the V variant itself instead of the Elevate which only gets them in the top ZX variant. On the other hand, the only features that Elevate gets standard but not available on the City SV is LED headlamps and smart key access.

Toyota has launched the latest generation Vellfire at a price of Rs. 1.19 Cr. (Ex-showroom). With a new platform, it gets several new tech features. Available in two variants, it gets powered by a strong hybrid system. It also shares its underpinnings with the more luxurious Lexus LM MPV in the international markets.

Toyota Vellfire Design

Toyota has given extensive design revisions to the Vellfire. At the front, there is now an even larger grille along with a sharper front bumper. The centre-piece however is the new grille which while larger, features lesser chrome than the outgoing version. The headlights also become sleeker with a more mature design. Towards the side, there have been lesser changes with major ones being the new unilateral window line and the kink below the front windows. Towards the rear, it gets reshaped taillights which now get a connected element. Another change is the rear bumper which is now more aggressive and features vertical reflectors.

Toyota Vellfire Interior & Features

Talking of the interiors, the Vellfire now gets a new dashboard along with a new 14 inch touchscreen . There is now a new steering wheel as well as a digital instrument cluster too. The centre console gets wrapped in leather and features fewer buttons along with a smaller and more modern looking gear shifter. The highlight of the Vellfire though, are the second row ottoman seats which Toyota claims are now even wider and more comfortable. They also get a massage function and powered sun blinds for the windows.

The feature list has only gotten longer with the new Vellfire featuring a 15-speaker JBL sound system, 8-way powered driver seat, Heads-up display, wireless charging, 14 inch entertainment systems for the second row, overhead climate control console, detachable tablet to control vehicle functions and more. Safety features include a host of features such as Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-collision safety system, 6 airbags, Park Assist, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive High Beam LED headlamps and more.

Toyota Vellfire Powertrain

Under the hood, the new Vellfire gets a strong hybrid system consisting of a 2.5L four cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor mated to an eCVT transmission. This combo makes a total of 193HP and 240NM. Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of 19.28Kmpl.

In terms of warranty, the car gets a standard warranty of 3 years/ 1L Kms which can be extended to 5 years/ 2.2L Kms. Toyota is also offering 3 years of roadside assistance along with the new Vellfire. Meanwhile, the hybrid battery meanwhile carries a warranty of 8 years/ 1.6L Kms.

Toyota Vellfire Price & Variants

Toyota has launched the Vellfire in two trims- Hi and VIP-Executive Lounge. These are priced at Rs 1.19 Cr and Rs. 1.29 Cr (Ex-showroom) respectively. There are three exterior colours to choose from – Platinum Pearl White, Jet Black & Precious Metal while the interiors get an option between Black, Neutral Beige and a new Sunset Brown themes. The Vellfire has no direct rivals currently and will be the only option in its segment.
