4th gen Hyundai i20 – Expected Exterior Design

The teaser images provide an early look at the exterior design direction of the new model. The front end appears to take a more futuristic approach, highlighted by Y shaped daytime running lights. These are integrated into a connected LED light bar that stretches across the width of the car. The headlights themselves are positioned lower and feature horizontally stacked LED pods, giving the front fascia a more layered and aggressive look. Chrome finished curved detailing can be seen within the headlamp units, adding a premium touch to the design.

The Hyundai logo appears to be mounted on the bonnet and features what looks like an aluminium finish, further enhancing the premium appeal. Overall, the design suggests a move towards a sharper and more modern identity for the hatchback.

At the rear, the changes are equally significant. The tail lights now feature a C shaped LED signature and are connected by a central light bar, creating a more cohesive lighting design. A black trim element can be seen running across the tailgate just below the rear windscreen. The Hyundai logoalso appears to have a brushed aluminium finish, similar to the current model. In terms of proportions, the next generation i20 is expected to be larger than the outgoing version, which could translate to better cabin space and road presence.

4th gen Hyundai i20 – Expected Interior Design and Features

Moving to the interior, the teaser hints at a significant upgrade in terms of layout and technology. A curved dual screen setup is expected, similar to what is seen on the Hyundai Venue. This setup is likely to combine the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster into a single seamless unit. A new steering wheel design is also expected, potentially featuring Hyundai’s Morse Code inspired logo for the letter H. This would align the i20 with Hyundai’s newer global design language.

In terms of features, Hyundai is likely to equip the fourth generation i20 with a more advanced set of technologies. This could include an advanced driver assistance system suite and a 360 degree camera. These additions would help modernise the overall package and improve safety and convenience for buyers and help the i20 stand out in its segment.

4th gen Hyundai i20 – Expected Powertrain

On the powertrain front, Hyundai is expected to continue with its existing engine options. These include the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 84 horsepower and the 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine producing 120 horsepower, which is currently offered with the N Line variant. These engines are expected to be updated to meet future emission norms as well.

4th gen Hyundai i20 – Expected India Launch 

While there is no official confirmation regarding the India launch timeline of the fourth generation Hyundai i20, the current model is priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10.39 lakh for the standard version, and between Rs 9.27 lakh and Rs 11.59 lakh for the N Line variant. Once launched, the new i20 will continue to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment.

According to Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India Limited— the company plans to introduced upto 26 new launches in the next five years which includes updates and facelifts of the current lineup as well as completely new products. Out of the total 26 launches being considered, 20 are likely to be ICE with the other 6 being EVs. Additionally, Hyundai also plans to introduce Hybrid technology in their future products.

Furthermore, Hyundai also released some interesting statistics. It says in rural markets, more than 67% of sales are from its SUV range. It also says the new Talegaon plant will commence operation in this financial year which will boost production capacity to meet the future projected growth.

As of this month, Hyundai sells a lineup of 13 products in India ranging from hatchbacks like the Grand i10 NIOS to SUVs such as the Tucson and Alcazar.

These two variants are available with petrol and Hy-CNG Duo powertrains, paired with either a manual or AMT gearbox. The S Smart variant includes features such as an electric sunroof, LED taillamps with DRLs, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear AC vents, and 15-inch steel wheels with covers. The SX Smart variant adds a smart key with push-button start, projector headlamps, and a shark-fin antenna, while retaining key features from the S Smart variant.

Hyundai has standardized safety features across the Exter range, now offering ISOFIX child seat mounts and six airbags as standard. An optional 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a rear camera is available for Rs 14,999 as a genuine accessory, backed by a 3-year warranty.

Under the hood, the Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83hp and 114Nm of torque. In CNG form, it delivers 69hp and 95.2Nm, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Bookings for the new variant are now open online and at dealerships, with deliveries expected to begin soon. The Exter is Hyundai’s first model to feature dual-cylinder CNG technology, making it the second carmaker in India after Tata Motors to offer this system.

The EX variant is powered by the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car has a 60-litre CNG tank and delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 27.1km/kg.

Key features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, front power windows, keyless entry, central locking, LED tail-lamps, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, rear parking sensors, driver seat height adjustment, manual air conditioning, adjustable rear headrests, and 3-point seat belts for all seats.

Hyundai’s Whole-Time Director and COO, Tarun Garg, stated that the new variant reflects the company’s commitment to expanding green mobility and making smart mobility solutions more accessible, while offering a balance of affordability, efficiency, and safety.

Despite being a feature-rich SUV, even the top-spec Signature trim, priced at ₹21.5 lakh, previously lacked wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. The new adapter allows seamless access to mobile apps for navigation, music streaming, and voice commands through the infotainment system.

The Alcazar comes with dual 10.25-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, connected car technology, dual wireless chargers, Type-C USB ports, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, dual-zone climate control, steering-mounted controls, OTA updates, an air purifier, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and ambient lighting.

Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX mounts, traction control, stability control, and Level 2 ADAS functions. These include Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep and Following Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Collision Avoidance.

The Alcazar offers two engine options: a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 160 hp and 253 Nm, available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine generates 116 hp and 250 Nm and comes with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

As we set off from the bustling city of Bangalore, the road gradually transformed from the cityscape to an open highway. The newly constructed roads began to unfold before us. As the kilometers rolled by, we finally approached the windmill-rich areas of Chitradurga, where the rugged terrain of the hills meets the technological advances of renewable energy. These majestic giants stand like sentinels on the rolling hills, their white blades rotating gracefully in the wind. 

Upon reaching Honnavara, our first sight was the awe-inspiring Sharavathi Railway Bridge. A marvel of engineering, this 2 km-long bridge is the longest in both the Konkan Railway network and in all of Karnataka. As the sleek Vande Bharat train glided across, it turned the scene into a truly breathtaking spectacle, making the moment unforgettable!

But, this wasn’t the beginning of the Great India drive. Before reaching Honnavar, however, we had the opportunity to travel to the westernmost state of India—the beautiful Gujarat. Amitabh Bachchan was right when he said, “Kuch din toh guzaaro Gujarat mein,” because what we witnessed was absolutely mind-blowing.

The Rann is famous for its salt marshes that stretch endlessly, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The first thing that struck me in this little rann of Kutch was the silence, an encompassing quiet that only the vastness of the desert can offer. The horizon stretched far and wide, with the earth and sky merging into one, creating a sense of infinite space. Before we called it a day, a quick crash course on astronomy was more than welcome, after all its not everyday when we get to sea the beautiful constellation of stars in the clear skies

The “Road to Heaven” in Kutch, Gujarat, is a path that truly feels like you’re driving through paradise. Known for its captivating beauty, this road stretches across the vast expanse of the Great Rann of Kutch, offering a surreal experience of driving through a white salt desert that seems to never end. If you love to drive, this should definitely be on your list and do not miss the breathtaking sunrise.

Next on our radar was Khavda, a quaint village in Kutch, Gujarat, is a vibrant hub for traditional artisanship. Known for its skilled craftspersons, Khavda is famous for clay pottery, locally manufacturing handicrafts, and mirror work embroidery. Walking through the village, you can watch artisans meticulously creating intricate designs, preserving ancient techniques passed down through generations

Back in Honnavar, we are now at the Nathgeri Hanging Bridge—Suspended over the serene Saraswati River, the bridge offers panoramic views of the lush surroundings, with dense forests on either side. and it feels we are in a movie. Tall  trees, a quaint river flowing beneath, and birds chirping—truly the detox you need from everyday urban life!  A boat ride here and a walk on the bridge is ideal for those seeking a serene escape, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

Our boatman Sharath had some unbelievable skills in navigating through the serene backwaters and dense jungles suspended in water. Around the bridge are the Madhuvana Mangroves. Exploring the Madhuvana allows you to experience the tranquility of coastal nature, with winding waterways, while the mornings are cool, afternoons can get really hot in this tropical coast of Karnataka and the ventilated seats in Hyundai’s Creta make a world of difference, just right here.

The calm waters, dotted with small boats, and tall coconut trees acting as a canopy create a perfect setting for leisurely evenings providing a unique way to explore the beauty of the region.

As we departed the serene backwaters, a birds eye view of the Kerala Viewpoint was the best way to end the day. The scenic backwaters were an instantaneous reminder of the god’s own country or may be better. Afterall, just like the theme of Hyundai’s Great India drive – unchartered destinations are truly a blessing.

The Sharavathi Hanging Bridge is a scenic and historic bridge located near the Sharavathi River in Karnataka. This iconic bridge, with its rustic charm and breathtaking surroundings, offers stunning views of the lush green landscapes and flowing waters beneath. It’s a peaceful spot for nature lovers  while marveling at the engineering feat of the bridge itself.

As we take the mangrove boardwalk, it’s important to reflect on the significance of these unique landscapes. Not only do they support a thriving ecosystem, but they also prevent erosion and serve as the first line of defense against tsunamis.

Thanks to Apple CarPlay with Google Maps in the Hyundai Creta, navigating future adventures will be a breeze. Just like how we stumbled upon the charming town of Aghanashini, where fishermen head out to sea before the first rays of sunlight touch the pristine shores. Located just a few kilometers from Vishnu Kuteera, Aghanashini offers the perfect setting for spiritual reflection or relaxation.

The tranquility of Saraswathi beach with the sun taking its final dip on the horizon was just the perfect end we could ask for.

This entire adventure has made me reflect on how important travel is to us humans. It refreshes the mind, offers new perspectives, provides a break from the grueling routine of everyday life, and ultimately makes you a better person.

And this incredible escapade wouldn’t have been possible without Hyundai organizing the 8th edition of the Great India Drive 2025, with the theme of exploring the uncharted places of our incredible India. Their fabulous range of SUVs proved their mettle over these past few days.

South Africa continues to be one of Hyundai India’s most significant markets, with total exports crossing 1 million units. In 2024, the company also began exporting the Exter micro SUV, making it the eighth made-in-India Hyundai model in South Africa.

Hyundai in collaboration with TVS Motor has taken off wraps from their micromobility concepts at the recently held Auto Expo 2025. Both the 3W and 4W versions offer unique advancements compared to the current microcar and three-wheelers being sold currently.

About the Hyundai-TVS Micromobility Concept

The two concepts- in three-wheeled and four-wheeled avatars aim to address the issue of last mile transportation in India. Being fully electric vehicles, they get a flat floor while the swappable batteries are housed under the driver seat. Interestingly, Hyundai claims that the body can be raised if required to drive through flooded roads in case of emergency. Another unique feature is a rear hatch type design which fully opens up and gives uninterrupted access for wheelchair users which can then be secured after folding up the seats.

Hyundai has also given it a diagonally sloping windshield and three-point seatbelts to increase crash safety. On the inside, there is a panel behind the driver’s seat which can be used to mount various accessories like fans, cupholders and storage spaces for passenger convenience.

At the front however, while the 3W gets a conventional handlebar with a phone mount, the 4W gets a proper steering wheel and even a second seat at the front. Both concepts get a slim digital instrument cluster panel with inbuilt navigation.

These have been designed by Hyundai in collaboration with TVS and while launch seems far away, they will be produced by the latter given it’s experience in the three-wheeler space.  Police, Ambulance and Public Transport versions of the same are being evaluated

Hyundai has launched the facelifted Alcazar at a price of Rs. 14.99 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). This major facelift of the Alcazar gives it comprehensive updates in terms of styling, equipment and interiors while it remains unchanged under the hood.

Hyundai Alcazar facelift: Design

Just like the Creta facelift which launched earlier this year, the Alcazar also follows a similar design language with connected LED strip at the front with H shaped DRLs as well as a large square grille and vertically stacked headlamps. However, it also gets unique touches like the beefier skid plate. Towards the side, you now get a new design for the alloy wheels as well as taller roof rails. The rear now gets a complete overhaul with vertical LED taillamps connected by an light strip. There also a new silver applique around them as well as on the rear bumper.

Hyundai Alcazar facelift: Interiors & Features

Inside, the Alcazar gets a completely new dashboard with dual 10.25 inch screens for the infotainment and gauge cluster. Hyundai will be offering the Alcazar in 6 and 7 seater avatars with the former getting captain seats for the second row. The interiors also now get a tan theme to improve the cabin experience.

In terms of equipment, the facelift adds a lot of new features like 1st and 2nd row wireless chargers, ambient lighting, 8 way powered seats for the driver and passenger with the former also getting memory functionality, digital key, dual zone climate control, 8 speaker Bose sound system with subwoofer making a small part of the list. At the rear, you also get thigh cushion extension, ventilation and window shades are present for the second row captain seats. Both the 6 and 7 seat versions get reclining and sliding function for the second row. Safety in the Alcazar is taken care of by all wheel disc brakes, 6 airbags, hill descent control, hill start assist, ADAS L2 among else.

Hyundai Alcazar facelift: Powertrain

Under the hood, the alcazar remains unchanged and gets an option of a 1.5L turbo-petrol making 160HP and 253NM paired to either a 6 speed manual or 7 speed DCT automatic transmission along with a 1.5L diesel engine making 115HP and 250NM which can be had with a 6 speed manual or 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Hyundai Alcazar facelift: Price

Hyundai has not revealed the entire price list yet but has let us know that the base Petrol will cost Rs. 14.99 Lakhs while the base Diesel variant has been priced at Rs. 15.99 Lakhs(Ex-showroom).

The Hyundai Alcazar goes up against other SUVs like Mahindra XUV7OO and Tata Safari as well as MPVs such as the Kia Carens and Toyota Innova Crysta

Hyundai’s India connection goes way back to the 1990s when the revolutionary Santro came as established the brand. Cut to today, the many years of experience shows in the new Verna which we have with us today. Right off the bat, as I drive on the butter smooth National Highway, I’m cocooned in the soft leather seats, a banging Bose sound system and impressive NVH levels to boot. Now today’s route takes us via the historic town of Hubli, which so happens to be the only place in India where tricolours are manufactured officially. We might have to face some broken roads today, but no worries, the compliant suspension and the tall ground clearance of the Verna makes it look easy.

You join me now at the Karnataka Khadi Gramudyog Federation which has played a key role for this country since decades altogether. The flags have to be made with absolute perfection as any defects are considered a serious offence. Leading the modern India dynamic is the fact that all the workers here are women! Talk about women empowerment. This quaint little organisation holds tremendous responsibility towards our nation and represents a significant part in celebrating this joyous occasion. After a tiresome, yet incredibly rewarding drive, I know now truly understand why the Verna is such a popular sedan. It is quite the all rounder with futuristic looks, superb technology, acres of boot space along with a potent 1.5L T-GDI turbo-petrol engine and that quick shifting DCT automatic gearbox make it one of the most perfect cars in its segment.
