The new GLC with EQ Technology takes over as the company’s volume electric SUV, bringing with it an electric-first architecture, longer range, and a stronger focus on safety and digital integration. In India, most recently Mercedes-Benz launched the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe. 

Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology – Exterior Design

The SUV continues the familiar midsize proportions of its predecessors but introduces a fresh electric identity. A new illuminated rectangular grille, with 942 backlit polycarbonate dots and optional animations, marks a new face for the brand, but feels inspired from the Mercedes’ of the past. The central Mercedes star can also be illuminated ( feature may vary some markets).

Full-LED headlights come standard, with DIGITAL LIGHT micro-LED units available optionally. At the rear, star-shaped taillights add animation effects. Strong shoulders, sculpted arches, and 21-inch wheels ensure the GLC retains a commanding stance on the road.

The talking point of the interior remains the newly introduced 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest ever fitted to a Mercedes-Benz. Powered by the new MB.OS, it integrates infotainment, safety, and charging management, capable of 254 trillion operations per second.

With a wheelbase stretched by 84 mm, space has grown across all seating positions. Legroom improves by up to 47 mm in the rear, while the boot offers 570 litres, expanding to 1,740 litres with seats folded. A 128-litre frunk further adds to the car’s practicality.

Mercedes also introduces the world’s first vegan-certified interior, certified by The Vegan Society, claiming to have used high-quality synthetic leathers and textiles. For audiophiles, a Burmester 3D surround system handles the audio in the GLC. There is ambient lighting on offer, which brightens up the cabin.

At the unveil, the flagship GLC 400 4MATIC debuted with 482 hp and a claimed 713 km of WLTP range. A two-speed gearbox at the rear, combined with a disconnectable front axle aimed to improve efficiency. The GLC 400 will be supported by two motors. There is a rear-wheel-drive option as well, dubbed the  “GLC 300+”, it uses a single motor producing 374hp.

The 94 kWh lithium-ion battery, using silicon oxide anodes, operates the new MB.EA 800-volt system enabling ultra-fast DC charging of up to 330 kW. Mercedes claims up to 303 km can be replenished in ten minutes. Importantly, the GLC supports bidirectional charging, allowing Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions.

Safety is central to the model’s development. The rigid passenger cell is reinforced with crash-optimised alloys, while up to eleven airbags, including a centre airbag, are standard. The high-voltage system automatically disconnects in a crash, and new thermal monitoring protects the battery by sealing ventilation flaps if irregularities are detected.

The MB.DRIVE suite adds up to ten cameras, five radars, and twelve ultrasonic sensors to support advanced driver assistance functions. These systems are updatable over the air, extending relevance beyond the initial purchase.

Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology – Comfort and Technology

Ride quality is aided by airmatic air suspension with optional rear-axle steering. The new One-Box braking system blends regenerative and friction braking seamlessly, recovering up to 300 kW.

Inside, energizing comfort programmes combine massage, soundscapes, and lighting, while intelligent navigation considers weather, traffic, and topography to optimise charging stops.

Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology – Market Positioning and Rivals

Replacing the EQC, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology takes direct aim at premium electric SUVs such as the recently unveiled BMW iX3 and Audi Q6 e-tron. Its 713 km range and 2.4-tonne towing capacity give it a practical edge over the competition.

Production will be carried out at Bremen, Hungary, and China, with all facilities operating carbon-neutral. Mercedes-Benz claims the GLC reduces lifecycle emissions by two-thirds compared to its combustion sibling, aided by recycled aluminium and sustainable battery production. The India launch timeline of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology has not been confirmed by the brand as of yet. Considering how important the GLC nameplate is for Mercedes-Benz India in terms of sales and brand perception it will be safe to say the launch of the GLC with EQ Technology is not too far off.

Tata Harrier.ev – Power and Technology

The Tata Harrier.ev uses a dual-motor layout, delivers a combined 389hp and 504Nm. The top-end AWD variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. Battery options include 65kWh and 75kWh packs. Tata claims a certified range of 622km for the AWD (QWD) and 627km for the RWD versions of the Harrier.ev, both using the 75kWh battery under the MIDC test cycle. The SUV also supports 1.5C fast charging, which can add up to 250km of range in just 15 minutes. The range and other technical details for the 65kWh variant haven’t been revealed

Tata Harrier.ev – Design

From a distance, the Harrier EV looks pretty much like the facelifted Harrier we’ve seen since 2023 — but look closer and the EV-specific touches start to stand out. The front grille is now sealed off, and the bumper gets a cleaner, more modern look with horizontal lines running across it.

On the side, it’s got new 19-inch aero-style alloy wheels and a small ‘EV’ badge on the front doors — subtle, but enough to tell you this isn’t the diesel version. At the back, the only giveaway is the ‘Harrier.ev’ badge on the tailgate. In terms of size, it’s just 2mm longer and 22mm taller than the regular Harrier, with the same 2,741mm wheelbase.

Tata Harrier.ev – Features

In terms of equipment, the Tata Harrier.ev offers several high-end features, including a 14.5-inch Samsung OLED infotainment system, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SUV also gets Level 2 ADAS, a 540-degree camera system, powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and Tata’s Digi Access keyless entry system with smartphone integration. Features like Reverse Assist, Summon Mode, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) power transfer are also available, mostly on the top-spec trim.

Tata Harrier.ev – Safety Features

On the safety front, the Tata Harrier.ev includes seven airbags as standard, along with all-wheel disc brakes, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and Tata’s latest i-RA connected tech suite. It also includes a rearview mirror with built-in DVR and an integrated dashcam function.

Tata has also confirmed that the Tata Harrier.ev is ready for both GNCAP and Bharat NCAP crash test protocols, although ratings are yet to be published. The Harrier.ev is available in four colour options—Nainital Nocturne, Empowered Oxide, Pristine White, and Pure Grey. Tata is also offering a Stealth Edition with a matte black finish and blacked-out elements.

Tata Harrier.ev – Segment Positioning and Rivals

The Tata Harrier.ev enters a space that will soon see more competition. Its immediate rival is the Mahindra XEV 9e. The introductory price of 21.49 lakh is for the base 65kWh RWD variant. Models like the rumoured Mahindra XEV 8e, an electric version of the XUV700, and Maruti’s e Vitara, expected to be a battery-powered alternative to the Grand Vitara. Both are set to join the midsize electric SUV segment soon and will go up against the Tata Harrier.ev.
