MotoGP in India – Previous Races

India last hosted MotoGP in September 2023 at the Buddh International Circuit. The race marked the debut of the championship in the country and was officially called the Indian Oil Grand Prix of India. It was a historic moment as India joined the global MotoGP calendar for the first time. Marco Bezzecchi of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team won the inaugural season in India.

However the event was not held again in 2024 which created uncertainty around the future of the sport in India. The latest development now signals a renewed effort to bring the championship back in a stable and long term format.

MotoGP in India – MoU Details 

Under the new agreement AVW Global will work closely with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to facilitate the hosting of MotoGP and the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at the Buddh International Circuit in Gautam Buddh Nagar. The inclusion of the Asia Road Racing Championship is expected to support regional motorsport growth and strengthen India presence in international two wheel racing platforms.

AVW Global is a premium automotive and motorsport consultancy founded by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham. The company provides advisory services in research motorsport event execution and strategic planning. Abraham also brings experience as the former owner and operator of the Brno Circuit in the Czech Republic. His background in racing and circuit operations is expected to help in building a stable racing ecosystem in the state.

Shri Manoj Kumar Singh Chief Executive Officer State Transformation Commission Government of Uttar Pradesh stated that AVW Global will help bring motorcycle racing back to India in a professional manner. He said fans across the country are eager to see these machines on track again. He also confirmed that the state is committed to building a cohesive ecosystem for motorsport and youth development. The Buddh International Circuit will be utilised fully to create a sustainable model around racing activities.

Ron Hogg Promotions Director Two Wheels Motor Racing said that India is a significant market with passionate fans. He added that racing could take place as early as July or August 2026. This indicates that preparations are being aligned with the international calendar.
