The whole world has experienced all types of IC (Internal Combustion) Engines which majorly run on fuels such as Diesel or Petrol. These fuels fall under the category of Non-renewable source of energy, meaning once used they cannot be replenished. The major disadvantage of using these fuels, they release CO2 (carbon dioxide), as a result of combustion and other harmful gases which are not good for the environment thus increasing global warming.Fossil CO2 emissions in India were 2,533,638,100 tons in 2016. CO2 emissions increased by 4.71% over the previous year, representing an increase by 114,000,900 tons over 2015, when CO2 emissions were 2,419,637,200 tons.
To avoid and reduce this carbon footprint approx 189 countries have joined the Paris Agreement. The agreement includes commitments from all countries to reduce their emissions and work together to adapt to the impacts of climate change and calls on countries to strengthen their commitments over time. The whole motive behind this agreement is to lower the CO2 emissions from the exhaust of cars as low as possible. In European countries, they follow a norm called Euro6 engines and in India, we follow Bharat stage 6 engines.
As we saw advancement in technology we have started using CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) -operated vehicles and we have implemented most of them in public transport over 10 years. Using CNG engines also emit CO2 and other harmful gases but at a lower rate. To avoid this, few Automobile companies have come with a solution to have zero amount of carbon footprint and how is that possible you ask, by having the invention of the Electric Car.
What are electric cars EV?
A car that is propelled by an electric motor is called an electric car. The car has rechargeable batteries which are the power input for electric motors that are connected to the wheels. There are three types of EV’S (Electric Vehicles) the Plug-in electric, Plug-in hybrid, and Hybrid electric.
Plug-in Electric: – They solely depend on electricity, meaning they only run on rechargeable batteries. Example: Mahindra e2o
Plug-in Hybrid: – These cars run on conventional Internal combustion engines be it petrol or diesel and electric motors. If in case they run out of fuel or charge they can switch between the two. Example: – Toyota Camry
Hybrid electric: – These majorly run on petrol or diesel but they also have an electric battery which is charged through regenerative braking, these let us choose between EV mode and the fuel. These cars cannot be charged they are only charged by fuel. Example: – Toyota Prius.
Can we use these cars in India?
As of now the sales of these vehicles are not that high because of the reliability of the EV vehicle? Few EVs can travel approx. 300kms in a single charge. It takes around 8-10hrs to charge from 0% to 100%. In India, we lack the infrastructure of charging stations for EV cars which is the main reason sales of EVs are low. As of 2020, we have 993 charging stations across the country.
When will we have enough electricity for charging stations?
As the latest report of 2018, we have a consumption of 909 GU (Giga units), and the required is 915 GU. The difference of 6GU is imported from Bhutan. About 66% of total electricity required is produced by burning fossil fuels (coal) and the rest about 33% is produced from renewable sources of energy such as wind energy, tidal energy, and hydroelectric plant.
Now we have a strong debate on does it makes sense to buy an electric car because the whole purpose of an electric car was to reduce carbon footprint but instead we are burning coal to provide electricity for charging stations.
According to the report published on 11th March 2018, PM says, we have an ISA (International Solar Alliance) which says by 2022 we will producing 175GW (gigawatt) by renewable sources of energy
ISA was established in 2015 as an initiative by the PM of India and President of France and the purpose was to bring together a group of nations to endorse clean energy, sustainable environment, public transport, and climate.
So India estimates to outgrow this number of charging stations and power them by using renewable sources of energy which will cause less pollution and will decrease the carbon footprint reducing global warming.
What (ISRO) INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION has to offer on EV’S?
ISRO is in the process of transferring the technology of a cheaper version of space batteries developed by ISRO for the automobile industry especially for commercial use in e-mobility. Chairman of ISRO Dr.K Sivan said,” we have developed the technology to reduce the cost of space batteries to be used for the production of e-vehicle”. The process has a collaboration of ISRO and ARAI (automotive research association of India).
What are the challenges for EVs?
The solution for the above-mentioned problems has been taken into consideration, governments and automotive companies are investing more in R&D (Research and Development) to overcome these issues.
We now compare 5 Advantages and 5 Disadvantages
|YES for EV||NO for EV|
|High cost of fuels||Recharge points|
|Zero emissions||The initial investment is high|
|Low maintenance||The rise in electricity bill|
|Easy driving No lag||Range is short|
|Tax benefits||Longer time to recharge|

Honda introduced the CBR 250 back in 2011 for the Indian Two Wheeler market. Since then it has been ruling the segment. After the overwhelming response on the CBR 250, Honda planned to make this bike more affordable since the 250 was very expensive back then. They bought CBR 150cc which looked identical to CBR250. For the past 4-5 years there was a considerable growth in sales of high cc segment motorcycles where CBR650 was launched somehow on the sales part the motorcycle couldn’t perform well as it was an expensive affair to maintain the motorcycle and availability of spares was an issue. But surely Honda has reworked on this and we see many premium products from Honda the latest one to be the all-new HondaCB500X which was launched a few days ago. Honda is back with the new surprise.
March 30, 2021: Giving the free-spirited riders a chance to go on full throttle, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. today launched the new 2021 CBR 650R and CB 650R in India. The new models will make their way to the Indian market through CKD* route. (*Completely Knocked Down).The CB 650R is for young riders seeking a combination of exhilarating four-cylinder engine performance and light, versatile, refined chassis handling. The 2021 model has received a range of detail improvements to enhance comfort, usability, and practicality.
The 649cc, DOHC 16-valve engine, in-line four-cylinder performance, with the classically fast ‘pick-up’ through the rev range and hard-hitting, high-revving top end. Max net power of 64 kW arrives @ 12,000rpm with max net torque of 57.5 Nm delivered at 8,500 rpm.
Both models come with Assist/slipper clutch that eases upshifts and manages hard down changes. The assist mechanism reduces the clutch lever operating load, and the slipper mechanism reduces rear-wheel hopping due to sudden engine braking caused by downshifting improves ease of handling, and provides a more comfortable and smooth ride. The 4-1 side-swept exhaust has been designed to deliver a spine-tingling roar as revs climb.
Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). The system adjusts engine power to optimize torque at the rear wheel, reducing rear-wheel slip. The rider can choose to select the ON / OFF setting with the torque control (TC) switch on the left steering wheel. To match the improved engine and suspension performance both the models wear dual radial-mount four-piston brake calipers gripping 79.2 cm2 floating dual discs in the front and 25.4 cm2 disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS gives smooth braking in both wet and dry conditions.
The Showa Separate Function-Big Piston (SSF-BP) USD Forks come with a damping mechanism and spring on the right & left fork. This system offers reduced weight, superior rigidity, and overall excellent performance along with adjustability for spring preload. Aluminum wheels with premium 5-spoke Y-shaped spokes help reduce un-sprung weight. The light hoops have a greater influence on handling than the numbers alone suggest.

The all-new Skoda Kushaq, yes you guessed it right it is based on the concept car ‘VISION IN’ showcased in AutoExpo 2020. Earlier Skoda India registered the name as ‘KLIQ’ for the production-spec variant of the Vision IN. A few days ago in January 2021, Skoda India announced the name Kushaq and the significance of the name was derived from the Sanskrit word called Kushak. Why is it named ‘Kushaq’ then you may ask? Skoda defines SUVs and crossovers with the naming format starting with ‘K’ and ending with ‘Q’ for example the Karoq, Kodiaq, and the new upcoming crossover which might be called ‘Kamiq’. Earlier Skoda India registered the name KLIQ for the production-spec variant of the Vision IN. The launch of the ŠKODA KUSHAQ sees the brand enter India’s rapidly growing mid-size SUV segment. Lining up alongside the larger KODIAQ and KAROQ models, the KUSHAQ – developed exclusively for India – is the third ŠKODA SUV in that market.
Price of Kushaq? Launch date?
This was a World Premiere of the Kushaq, the company is yet to reveal the launch date and price. We still expect the car to be launched just after the New Skoda Octavia which debuts the Indian sedan market later in April 2021. Regarding the price, we estimate this product to be placed between 10lacs to 15lacs as we mentioned in our previous article on Kushaq.
How Big is Kushaq in real life?
The SUV is 4,225 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, and has a height of 1,612 mm. Its long wheelbase of 2,651 mm – which is among the longest in the segment – and a ground clearance of 188 mm makes it appear much larger than it actually is.
Reference Hyundai Creta: L x W x H =4,300 mm x 1,790 mm x 1,635 mm .Wheelbase : 2610mm. Ground Clearance : 190mm.
How is the Exterior?
ŠKODA has retained a wealth of the striking VISION IN concept car’s aspects in the production model virtually without making any changes. Featuring a distinctive front and prominent bonnet, the KUSHAQ’s ŠKODA SUV family resemblance is clear at first glance. The ribs of the wide grille are gloss black and the chrome grille surround extends to the headlights. The upper section of the muscular front bumper is body-colored, the lower part is black. From the Ambition trim level upwards, the underbody protection comes in a silver finish, as do the roof rails, which are black in the Active trim. A straight roofline, as well as a tornado line at the height of the door, handles, make the vehicle appear longer than it actually is. At the same time, the powerful wheel arches set off with black plastic trim and black side skirts bring out the KUSHAQ’s athletic look and lend it a self-assured stance on the road. The Style variant also features chrome-plated window frames and door handles. The clearly structured rear is characterized by the elongated roof spoiler, the ŠKODA lettering in block letters on the tailgate, and the bumper with a robust rear diffuser, which is set off in silver from the Ambition trim line upwards. The ŠKODA KUSHAQ offers plenty of space for five occupants and, with a capacity of 385 l, has a generous boot. The entry-level trim line, Active, features 16-inch steel wheels and Lhotse full wheel covers. In the Ambition trim level, the KUSHAQ comes with Grus 16-inch alloy wheels, while 17-inch Atlas two-tone alloys provide a visual highlight as standard for the Style variant.
How is the interior?
Even the entry-level variant of the ŠKODA KUSHAQ features particularly powerful air conditioning, and from Ambition upwards, the SUV boasts Climatronic with a touch control panel. Even more ultra-modern features are offered in the range-topping trim, Style, which comes with ventilated leather front seats, KESSY keyless entry, an electric sliding glass roof, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
The steering wheel grabs the attention to a whole new level as it is a 2-spoke steering wheel. Probably the first in India to bring back the two-spoke steering wheel in fashion. We believe Skoda to introduce the same steering wheel on the new Skoda Octavia as well.
The interior of the KUSHAQ is dominated by a central, free-standing infotainment touchscreen; the character line running below this makes reference to the silhouette of the ŠKODA grille. A unique storage option has been specially designed to meet the needs of Indian customers: a utility recess on the dashboard. This is where the driver can keep a firmly attached lucky charm in clear view. All variants of the brand-new SUV offer numerous storage compartments in the interior with a total capacity of up to 26.2 l. These include, for example, the 6.1-litre glove compartment, which is air-conditioned from the Ambition trim upwards, and the 2.2-liter Jumbo Box in the center console. In the front and rear door panels, there is plenty of room for storing bottles and other items. A cup holder can be found in the armrest of the rear seat, which folds down in a ratio of 60:40 from Ambition upwards. The Ambition trim also offers a compartment in the roof lining in the front for keeping sunglasses, so they are always within easy reach. Even in the entry-level variant, the ŠKODA KUSHAQ offers white ambient lighting and LED reading lights in the front and rear. From the Ambition trim level upwards, the ambient lighting also illuminates the dashboard and door handles, while the door handles are chrome-plated and the gearstick knob is upholstered in leather. The Style trim is particularly elegant. It offers an extended chrome package with decorative chrome trim on the instrument panel as well as the gearstick surround; the handbrake locking button also sports a chrome look. The side bolsters of the ventilated front seats, which come as standard, are finished in a leather-look, as are the covers of the center armrest and the armrests in the doors.
Top-of-the-range infotainment system with a 10-inch screen
The Ambition and Style trim levels include the range-topping infotainment system with a 10-inch color touchscreen that has the same functionalities as is common for smartphones. This system also features a dual tuner, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an external microphone for hands-free phone calls. On top of this, the system supports Bluetooth standard 4.0. Smartphones can be paired and the online app store accessed without the need for a cable using Wireless SmartLink technology. Downloads from the online app store allow for the range of functions to be expanded, for example, by a navigation function. The GPS receiver required has been pre-installed accordingly for this purpose. There are two USB-C ports in the center console as well as two at the rear console for connecting and charging mobile devices via cable; the Style variant can also be equipped with a Phone Box in the front which allows smartphones to be charged inductively. In addition to MP3 and WMA, this system can also play AAC and FLAC media files.
ŠKODA sound system with additional subwoofer
The ŠKODA Kushaq comes with six high-performance speakers as standard – two separate tweeters and bass speakers in the front and two two-way speakers in the rear – providing a wide frequency range and guaranteeing excellent sound. The ŠKODA sound system is part of the standard equipment in the Style variant. In addition to higher-performance speakers, it also offers a separate amplifier and a subwoofer that is located in the spare wheel well.
What are the features of Kushaq on Safety?
With its comprehensive range of active and passive safety features and numerous convenient assistance systems, the ŠKODA Kushaq provides excellent levels of protection for the driver and passengers. High levels of driving safety are ensured at all times by the ESC system, which is a standard feature in all variants. The Multi-Collision Brake prevents potential follow-on collisions in the event of an accident. Should an accident occur, the vehicle’s occupants are protected by up to six airbags: in addition to airbags for the driver and front passenger, the KUSHAQ can be fitted with optional front side airbags and curtain airbags. All headrests are height-adjustable, and the center seat in the rear is also equipped with a three-point seat belt. ISOFIX and top-tether anchor points on the rear seats to fit child seats come as standard.
How Powerful is the Kushaq?
The MQB variant specially adapted for India, the MQB-A0-IN platform, makes it possible to equip the brand-new ŠKODA Kushaq with advanced and efficient TSI engines. Thanks to their low fuel consumption, the direct-injection petrol engines enable long ranges. The car comes in two engine options both are petrol. The entry-level 1.0 TSI produces 85 kW (115 PS) from its displacement of one liter. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission
The 1.5 TSI has – as its denomination suggests – a displacement of 1.5 liters. Its power output of 110 kW (150 PS) is delivered to the front wheels via a manual 6-speed gearbox, the same as with the 1.0 TSI. This engine can be configured with a 7-speed DSG with gear ratios that offer a perfect blend of sportiness and comfort.
Kushaq comes in 5 color varients
