The Taigun has been a key product for Volkswagen in India, built on the MQB A0 IN platform under the brand’s India 2.0 strategy. Since its debut in 2021, Volkswagen has sold over 1.43 lakh units of the Volkswagen Taigun, with nearly 30 percent of that volume coming from exports. Its platform sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, received a facelift earlier this year, setting the stage for similar updates on the Taigun.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Exterior Design

Volkswagen has already released images of the facelifted Taigun alongside the production announcement, and the changes are quite evident. The SUV gets a completely redesigned front fascia, featuring a new bumper, grille, and headlight setup. The design now aligns more closely with Volkswagen’s larger global SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Volkswagen Tayron.

The headlights are all-new, with updated LED elements, fresh DRL signatures, and a connected light bar running across the grille. An illuminated Volkswagen logo is also seen. Interestingly, the facelift drops traditional fog lamps, replacing them with sleek chrome elements integrated into the air intake.

In profile, the Taigun remains largely unchanged, retaining its familiar silhouette. However, it does get a new set of alloy wheels, which appear similar in design to those seen on the updated Kushaq. While Volkswagen hasn’t revealed the rear design yet, earlier spy shots suggest minimal changes, likely limited to subtle tweaks in the tail lamp design and bumper styling. Full details will only be confirmed at the official launch.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Interior Design and Feautres

Volkswagen has not revealed any images or details of the interior so far, and there have been no spy shots either. However, based on the current model and updates seen on the Kushaq facelift, we can expect a familiar yet slightly enhanced cabin.

The existing Volkswagen Taigun comes equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, both of which are likely to be carried forward. There is also a possibility of Volkswagen introducing new features like a panoramic sunroof, especially since competitors in the segment are raising the bar.

It will be interesting to see how Volkswagen differentiates the Taigun from the Kushaq, which now offers features like ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable seats, and even a segment first rear seat massage function. Feature positioning will play a key role in defining the Tiguan’s appeal.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Powertrain 

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Taigun is expected to continue with its existing engine options. These include a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 115 hp and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine delivering 150 hp.

The 1.0-litre engine is currently offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. However, with Skoda updating the Kushaq with a new 8-speed torque converter, Volkswagen could introduce the same upgrade on the Taigun. The 1.5-litre engine is expected to continue with the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Another expected update could be the inclusion of rear disc brakes for the 1.5-litre variants, something that has already been addressed in the Kushaq facelift.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Safety Features and Price

Safety has always been a strong suit for Volkswagen, and the Taigun is expected to continue with a solid safety package. The current model comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold assist, and ABS with EBD. Any additional updates will be revealed at launch.

In terms of pricing, the current Taigun is priced between ₹10.58 lakh and ₹19.18 lakh (ex-showroom). With the facelift and added features, a slight price hike is expected.

Once launched, the Taigun facelift will continue to compete with segment heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Tata Sierra.
