New Ecosport SE launched in India

Indians love Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and there is a massive collection to choose from, but a new concept emerged a couple of years back called the sub-4 meter SUV. What does sub-4 meter mean? Since the past decade, there is significant growth in the number of cars on the road, this causes congestion and affects road traffic, to overcome this problem Government of India had a smart solution. They reduced the Excise duty on car manufactures who aim to design cars that fall under 4 meters in length. With car length even engine capacity had limitations,  for petrol engines below 1200cc and for diesel engine below 1500cc were the main criteria. For which they would receive a benefit in Excise rates. A deal that every car manufacturer would crack. This is how the sub-4-meter concept emerged in India. Which was the first sub-4-meter SUV in India, any guesses? no, it is not the brezza or the ecosport, it was Premier Rio. Probably only a few people must have heard of it, unfortunately, the car didn’t sell well as it was very early for the party. Today we discuss one such SUV which still sells like hotcakes and that is the Ford Ecosport which made its debut in the Indian market back in 2013. Almost eight years later Ford motor company still has offered a new variant of the sub-Suv called the Ecosport SE.

The new SE comes in two trims one with the spare wheel on the fifth door or the one without the spare wheel. First in the Indian market to eliminate the spare wheel and instead give a puncture kit. Yes you read it right, Ecosport gets tubeless tires and in the event of a puncture, the tire will never lose air immediately taking advantage of this Ford thought to introduce a puncture kit. This will be a task to explain to everyone how to use it, moreover, in the event of a puncture the owner should do it properly or else he might damage the tire.

The new Ecosport SE comes with an optional spare tire does not mean it will be the cheapest one to buy it still sits above the 1.5L Petrol Ambiente MT (7,99,000) and the 1.5Diesel Ambiente MT(8,69,000).

  • 1.5L Petrol SE MT (10,49,000)
  • 1.5L Diesel SE MT (10,99,000)

  • Apart from an elegantly designed tailgate and a new, dual-tone rear bumper that sports a silver
    applique, the SE variant retains EcoSport’s butch, robust appeal with a bold grille, 16-inch alloys
    and high ground clearance.
  • For Passenger safety, it gets equipped with Six Airbags.
  • A 9-inch touchscreen-based, infotainment system & embedded navigation on most variants.
  • A sun-roof on half of the variant lineup, including EcoSport SE
  • Driver’s assistance like automatic HID headlamps, daytime running lights, electrochromic mirror, rain-sensing wipers, push-button start.

These are the new features which we get on the new Ford Ecosport SE. Since this variant was inspired by the European market where the Ecosport is sold without the spare wheel, ford could have bought few technical advancements. Getting inspired by the Australian market Ecosport could be equipped with 4×4 which would be available as an option at least.
