What to Expect at Auto Expo 2023: Hyundai

The Auto Expo 2023 will take place from the 13th to 18th of January at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. Being India’s most anticipated automotive industry event of the year, there are of course a handful of vehicle and component manufacturers slated to be present, and the Korean behemoth Hyundai will be among the bunch.

Here’s what to expect from one of India’s largest carmakers.

Hyundai products to be launched at the Auto Expo 2023:

Hyundai IONIQ5: Hyundai recently showcased its radical IONIQ5 electric crossover in spectacular fashion at the Gateway of India. Although internationally revealed in 2021, the latest assembled-in-India iteration will be exhibited at the 2023 Auto Expo, slated to go on sale early this year with bookings already underway. Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform bespoke to EV’s, the IONIQ5 gets a 320hp powertrain with two battery options: 58kWh and 72.6kWh, available in both RWD and 4WD configurations.

Creta Facelift: Expected to retain the existing powertrain, the ever-popular Creta will be getting its due facelift at the Auto Expo 2023. The front is said to be heavily inspired by Hyundai’s current flagship SUV Tucson, where LED headlamps rest inside and along the parametric dark chrome front grille. Apart from cosmetic updates, the new Creta will also come equipped with ADAS features for enhanced safety.

New Hyundai Verna: Continuing its foray into the sedan space, the Hyundai Verna is set to come back in competitive spirit in a new and improved avatar to compete against the likes of Skoda and Volkswagen. The new Verna was recently spied testing, and is expected to arrive with design revisions all throughout the exterior as well as feature set rejig for the interiors. Meanwhile under the hood, word abuzz is one could expect the same power mill churning out 113hp, while don’t be surprised if Hyundai decides to give the diesel powertrain a toss. On the safety front, the Verna is also expected to get ADAS.

Hyundai IONIQ6: Although not on the cards for launch, the IONIQ6 is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The aerodynamically focussed sedan with a polarising design is Hyundai’s lowest drag coefficient offering, with RWD and 4WD variants making 228hp and 320hp respectively. The IONIQ6 is internationally sold as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3, the BMW i4 and the Polestar 2, and is not a successor to the IONIQ5 despite what the name might suggest.

Grand i10-based small SUV: Hyundai also plans to launch a grand i10 based small crossover SUV for the Indian market to compete against the Tata Punch and the neonatal Citroen C3. To sit below the Venue, this new ‘SUV’ was spied in Korea under heavy camouflage and is expected to follow a similar design language as its stablemates. No information is public yet on the powertrain figures, but expect a concept unveil at the Auto Expo and a late 2023 launch.

Hyundai Kona facelift: Hyundai’s first EV to be offered in India, the Kona EV is expected to receive a facelift at the Auto Expo, albeit the global variant having already received the refresh 3 years prior.

Other Technologies on display:

Apart from cars, Hyundai could also have a display of its hybrid and hydrogen technology, with the Korean conglomerate being one of the most heard voices in the hydrogen fuel cell propulsion realm for vehicles around the world. On these lines, Hyundai could also have a showcase of the Nexo fuel cell SUV, although do not expect the absolutely gorgeous N74 FCV concept to be here.
