There was something magical about growing up as a car enthusiast in the 2000s and 2010s. New car launches did not instantly appear on your phone through reels, YouTube videos or endless social media posts. Instead, you waited for the latest issue of your favourite automotive magazine to arrive.

You would carefully flip through its pages, admire the glossy photographs, read every word of the road tests, and almost instinctively turn to the final pages where the price list for every city was printed. That was where dreams met reality. As a child, you would calculate just how expensive your dream car was and quietly tell yourself that one day, after years of studying and working hard, you would own one.

For me, one of those dream cars was the Honda CR-V. It was the SUV that often appeared in movies, usually driven by the successful businessman, the accomplished professional or the protagonist who had finally made it in life. Back then, Honda carried an aura that very few brands could match. The Civic, Accord and CR-V were not just cars. They were symbols of success and aspiration. They were the kind of vehicles you saw parked outside luxury hotels, driven by successful NRIs visiting India, well known actors or influential politicians.

Over the years, that image gradually faded as the market shifted towards feature loaded SUVs and newer competitors. Yet, for an entire generation of enthusiasts, those three letters, CR-V, still evoke a sense of nostalgia. Now, Honda is attempting to rekindle some of that magic with the ZR-V. While it may wear a different badge and belong to a different era, it carries the responsibility of reminding enthusiasts why Honda once occupied such a special place in the hearts of Indian buyers. We got behind the wheel of the new Honda ZR-V at the Buddh International Circuit to find out if it still has what it takes to wear that legacy.

Honda ZR-V – Exterior Design

Like most global Honda models, the Honda ZR-V follows an understated design philosophy. It is a car built for markets across the world, and that reflects in the way it looks. I would not call it distinctly European or American. In fact, it reminds me of something Sheldon Cooper once said in The Big Bang Theory about having a “Mid Atlantic accent”. The Honda ZR-V has a similar personality. It does not lean heavily towards any one design language, instead striking a balance that feels globally appealing.

At the front, the ZR-V features a vertically slatted gloss black grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and sequential turn indicators. The bumper incorporates functional air curtains that help improve aerodynamic efficiency, adding a touch of engineering beneath the styling. One omission, however, is the absence of front fog lamps, something buyers in this segment may expect. Measuring 4,567 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,621 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,655 mm, the Honda ZR-V has proportions that give it a planted and substantial road presence without looking oversized.

Viewed from the side, the design becomes more interesting. The gently sloping roofline gives the SUV a sportier profile without compromising its overall proportions. Around the back, the slim clear lens LED tail lamps stretch across the width and, from certain angles, the rear has a resemblance to the Mercedes Benz GLC.

Honda has also resisted the temptation of adding fake exhaust outlets. Instead, the silver finished exhaust surrounds are neatly integrated into the bumper, keeping the design clean and tasteful. The 18 inch alloy wheels may not be the most intricate in terms of design, but they fill the wheel arches well and complete the stance of the SUV. Also on offer are 4 exterior colours, crystal black pearl, platinum white pearl , meteoroid gray metallic and twilight black pearl.

Overall, the Honda ZR-V is exactly what you would expect from a modern Honda. It is clean, mature and understated, and it is a design that is likely to age gracefully even a decade from now. At the same time, it misses that one standout element that makes you stop and look back after parking it. It is, in many ways, a design that is hard to hate, but just as easy to forget.

Honda ZR-V – Interior and Features and Comfort

The Honda ZR-V’s cabin follows the same philosophy as its exterior. Finished in an all black theme, it is clean, understated and refreshingly functional, staying true to Honda’s approach of prioritising ergonomics over flashy gimmicks.

The dashboard is dominated by a 9 inch freestanding touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity. Thankfully, Honda has retained physical shortcut buttons and a volume knob, making the system much easier to operate on the move. Below it sit honeycomb finished AC vents that span the width of the dashboard, followed by physical dual zone climate control switches. You also get a PM2.5 cabin air filter, while the dashboard itself is wrapped in soft touch leatherette, giving the cabin a premium feel.

Ahead of the driver is a 10.2 inch digital instrument cluster, while the conventional gear lever makes way for electronic push button controls for the hybrid eCVT transmission. The centre console houses the drive mode selector, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, wireless charger, cup holders, a 12V socket and two USB Type C ports. The only ergonomic gripe is that the USB ports are tucked below the charging tray, making them slightly awkward to access.

The driver gets an eight way electrically adjustable seat with two memory presets, while the front passenger gets a four way powered seat. Other features include auto folding ORVMs with a welcome function, a frameless auto dimming IRVM, aluminium finished pedals, regenerative braking paddles behind the steering wheel and a 12 speaker Bose sound system that delivers an impressive listening experience. Overall fit and finish is excellent, with solid build quality and materials that feel worthy of a CBU Honda.

Rear passengers get AC vents, a centre armrest, three adjustable headrests and 60:40 split folding seats. However, the hybrid battery results in a slightly raised floor, leaving taller occupants in a knees up seating position with limited under thigh support. At six feet tall, I found rear space adequate rather than generous, and long journeys may not be as comfortable as some rivals.

One notable omission is the lack of rear sunshades or even privacy glass, something that would have made a noticeable difference in Indian conditions. Then there is the absence of a sunroof. Personally, I do not consider this a drawback, but in today’s market, where buyers often expect one regardless of how often they use it, it could become a talking point against the ZR-V.

Practicality remains strong with over 1,300 litres of luggage space available with the rear seats folded, along with a powered tailgate featuring gesture control. Overall, the Honda ZR-V’s cabin impresses with its quality, thoughtful ergonomics and solid build, even if it misses a few headline grabbing features that buyers in this segment have come to expect.

Honda ZR-V – Driving and Dynamics

Before we get into how the Honda ZR-V drives, it is worth pointing out that this was not a conventional road test. Our drive was limited to the Buddh International Circuit, which means this review focuses on the SUV’s performance, handling and overall dynamics. Ride quality, real world fuel efficiency and the Honda SENSING ADAS suite are aspects we will reserve for a comprehensive road test.

Powering the ZR-V is Honda’s familiar 2.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a self charging hybrid system and a permanent magnet electric motor. Combined, the system produces 184 PS and 350 Nm of torque, with drive sent to the front wheels through Honda’s eCVT transmission with an engine linked clutch. There are three drive modes on offer, namely Econ, Normal and Sport, while the car automatically switches between EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive depending on the driving conditions.

The drive begins in the pit lane under a regulated speed limit of 40 kmph, and the first thing you notice is just how refined the ZR-V feels. At lower speeds, the SUV often operates in EV mode, making it eerily quiet. The transition between electric and petrol power is seamless, and unless you deliberately bury the throttle, you hardly notice the engine coming to life.

Push harder though, and the Honda ZR-V quickly changes character. Instant torque from the electric motor masks the initial hesitation, while the naturally aspirated petrol engine comes alive with a familiar Honda soundtrack. It is not an aggressive or overly sporty note, but there is something satisfying about hearing a naturally aspirated engine rev freely in an era dominated by downsized turbocharged units.

Straight line performance is impressive. Honda claims a 0 to 100 kmph time of 7.8 seconds, and during our informal stopwatch run on the main straight, I managed an 8 second sprint.

What surprised me even more was the ZR-V’s handling. Despite being an SUV riding on conventional road tyres, body roll was remarkably well controlled. The steering feels direct and predictable, allowing you to place the car confidently through corners, while the suspension keeps the body composed even when changing direction quickly. The ZR-V uses McPherson struts at the front and a multi link rear suspension, and the setup does a commendable job of balancing comfort with composure.

The slalom course further highlighted this. I comfortably completed it at around 75 kmph without clipping a single cone, and more importantly, without the excessive body movement you would normally associate with an SUV. Speaking to the instructors afterwards, none of the participants managed to unsettle the car or knock over any cones, which says as much about the ZR-V’s predictable chassis as it does about the controlled environment of the exercise.

That is not to say it completely defies physics. Through tighter corners, you can still feel the higher centre of gravity, and there is some body roll if you really begin to lean on the chassis. After all, this is still a family SUV, not a hot hatch pretending to be one.

Braking performance deserves a special mention. Equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels and regenerative braking, the Honda ZR-V shed speed confidently lap after lap, with a reassuring pedal feel and no noticeable fade during our session. Stability under hard braking was equally impressive.

We were also able to stretch the SUV to an indicated 160 kmph on the main straight, which was the maximum speed permitted during the event. Even at triple digit speeds, the ZR-V remained composed and confidence inspiring, suggesting it should make for a relaxed highway cruiser.

As for Honda SENSING, the ZR-V comes equipped with a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite featuring systems such as Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Mitigation Braking. However, given the limited nature of the track session, we did not have the opportunity to evaluate these systems in real world conditions. Similarly, while Honda claims an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.8 kmpl and E20 fuel compatibility, a racetrack is hardly the place to judge efficiency.

Honda ZR-V – Verdict

Overall, the Honda ZR-V impressed where it mattered most. It feels refined, quick and remarkably composed for an SUV. More importantly, it carries itself with the confidence you would expect from a global Honda product. No owner is likely to spend their weekends chasing lap times at a racing circuit. The ZR-V’s natural habitat will be long expressway drives, airport runs, weekend getaways and the daily commute. Based on our first experience, it seems more than capable of handling all of those duties while still offering enough dynamic ability to put a smile on the driver’s face when the road begins to twist.

Honda is yet to announce the ZR-V’s price for India. However, industry estimates suggest it could be positioned in the premium CBU SUV segment, where it will go up against the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq.

That also means Honda has a tough task ahead. While the ZR-V impresses with its refined self charging hybrid powertrain, excellent build quality and well sorted driving dynamics, its European rivals offer larger cabins, an additional third row of seats in the case of the Kodiaq, and a more feature rich package. The hybrid powertrain remains the ZR-V’s biggest differentiator, but whether that alone is enough will ultimately depend on Honda’s pricing.

For now, the Honda ZR-V leaves a strong first impression. Whether it becomes a success story in India will depend less on how it drives and far more on what Honda writes on the price tag.

The post 2026 Honda ZR-V First Drive at BIC: Does This Hybrid SUV Live Up to the ‘Sport’ in SUV? first appeared on Shutterdrives.

The post 2026 Honda ZR-V First Drive at BIC: Does This Hybrid SUV Live Up to the ‘Sport’ in SUV? appeared first on Shutterdrives.

JSW MG Motor India has revealed the first look at the MG ADAPT Platform, a new architecture that will underpin the brand’s future New Energy Vehicle lineup in India. ADAPT stands for Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology and represents MG’s next step towards electrified mobility. The platform has been developed exclusively for new energy vehicles and will support plug in hybrid, strong hybrid, range extended electric and battery electric vehicles. The company has also confirmed that there will be no conventional petrol or diesel only models based on this architecture.

This announcement comes shortly after the launch of the MG Majestor, the brand’s flagship SUV, which was introduced earlier this year to rival the Toyota Fortuner in the full size SUV segment.

MG ADAPT Platform supports four powertrain options

The MG ADAPT Platform has been engineered to support four different powertrain technologies. These include Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Battery Electric Vehicles, Range Extended Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles. This flexible architecture will allow MG to introduce multiple models across different segments while giving customers a wider choice of electrified powertrains.

MG ADAPT Platform gets electromagnetic transmission

A major highlight of the MG ADAPT Platform is its electromagnetic transmission, which MG claims is the first of its kind in the world. Instead of relying on conventional mechanical gear engagement, the system transfers and controls torque using electromagnetic forces. The platform also features an electromagnetic clutch that engages and disengages the clutch without mechanical or hydraulic actuation. MG says this technology enables gear changes in just 0.18 seconds, promising quicker and smoother performance.

MG ADAPT Platform features a 10 in 1 drive unit

Another key feature of the MG ADAPT Platform is its compact 10 in 1 drive unit. By integrating multiple components into a single unit, the system helps improve packaging efficiency while supporting different electrified powertrain configurations. This approach also allows MG to use the same platform for multiple vehicle types in the future.

MG ADAPT Platform supports range extended EVs

The MG ADAPT Platform has also been designed to accommodate Range Extended Electric Vehicles. In this setup, the electric motor is solely responsible for driving the wheels, while the petrol engine functions only as a generator to produce electricity for the battery. This offers the driving experience of an electric vehicle while extending the overall driving range.

MG ADAPT Platform signals MG’s future plans

With the introduction of the ADAPT Platform, JSW MG Motor India has laid the foundation for its next generation of electrified vehicles. As India’s first dedicated New Energy Vehicle architecture, it brings together support for multiple powertrain technologies along with new drivetrain innovations. The platform is expected to play a key role in MG’s future product strategy as the company expands its electric and hybrid vehicle portfolio in the Indian market.

The post MG ADAPT Platform Revealed: India’s 1st Multi NEV Architecture Explained first appeared on Shutterdrives.

The post MG ADAPT Platform Revealed: India’s 1st Multi NEV Architecture Explained appeared first on Shutterdrives.

Kia India is preparing to launch the new Kia Syros EV in the Indian market. Ahead of its official launch, the Syros EV has been spied without any camouflage while filming a promotional advertisement, revealing its final production-ready styling in full. The EV is expected to be priced from Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). BaaS is also expected. When launched, it will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and MG Windsor EV.

Kia Syros EV – Expected Exterior Design

In terms of design, the Kia Syros EV shares its overall design with the ICE-powered Syros, with only a few EV-specific changes. At the front, it retains the vertically stacked split headlamps with LED DRLs, body-coloured aero inserts, a redesigned bumper, a slim upper air intake, a larger lower air intake and thick black cladding. The raised bonnet with embossed Kia lettering has also been carried over.

In profile, the Syros EV continues with the same 17-inch alloy wheels as the ICE model. It also features roof rails, flush-fitting door handles and blacked-out A-, C- and D-pillars that create a floating roof effect. The charging port is positioned on the front-left fender. At the rear, the Syros EV retains the low-mounted tail lamps above the wheel arches, along with secondary lighting elements integrated beside the rear windscreen. The body-coloured rear bumper, black cladding and flat tailgate with an integrated spoiler remain unchanged from the ICE version.

Kia Syros EV – Expected Interior Design

Moving inside, the Syros EV is expected to carry over the ICE model’s cabin layout, including the layered dashboard, leather inserts and a two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls. Ventilated seats are also likely to be available for both front and rear passengers. Expected features include a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a 5-inch screen for climate control, with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Harman sound system, ambient lighting, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, I-Pedal and much more.

Kia Syros ICE Interior shown for reference

Safety features expected to be included are six airbags, a 360-degree camera, front, side and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electronic parking brake (EPB).

Kia Syros EV – Expected Battery Pack and Range

There’s no info on the battery pack options. The Syros EV is expected to get the same powertrain options as the Carens Clavis EV, including 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs with a range of 420 km and 520 km, respectively. It will come paired with a single PMSM electric motor placed on the front axle.

Kia Syros EV – Expected Market Positioning and Rivals

With an expected starting price of around Rs 13 lakh (ex showroom), the Kia Syros EV is likely to be positioned as a premium compact electric SUV, slotting below the upcoming Kia Seltos EV. The brand is also expected to introduce a Battery as a Service (BaaS) ownership model, which could significantly reduce the initial purchase cost and make the Syros EV more accessible to buyers. Once launched, it will rival the Tata Nexon EV, the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and the MG Windsor EV.

While the new Life variant misses out on the sporty R Line styling package and the third row of seats, it retains the same powerful 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine, all wheel drive system and a majority of the premium features offered on the higher variant. This makes it a more value focused alternative for buyers who prefer a spacious five seat SUV over a seven seater.

An interesting point is that Volkswagen has taken a different approach from its Skoda sibling. While the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge also serves as a more affordable five seat option, it misses out on Level 2 ADAS. The Tayron Life, on the other hand, continues to offer the same Level 2 ADAS package available on the top end Tayron R Line, giving buyers more safety without having to spend extra.

Volkswagen Tayron Life – Exterior Design

Without the R Line package, the Tayron Life adopts a cleaner and more understated appearance. The front grille, wheel arch cladding and rear bumper trims no longer receive the gloss black finish seen on the R Line. Instead, the front bumper features a simpler design with L shaped grille elements and a silver trim below the grille that gives the SUV an elegant look.

The slim Matrix LED headlamps, illuminated Volkswagen logo and full width LED light bar remain unchanged from the R Line. Along the sides, the Tayron Life continues with clean body lines, a chrome window surround and the signature silver trim extending towards the rear quarter glass. The Life variant rides on 18 inch alloy wheels instead of the 19 inch units offered on the R Line.

At the rear, the changes are limited to a simpler bumper design, while the connected LED tail lamps, illuminated Volkswagen badge, roof spoiler and full width light bar have all been retained.

The Tayron Life is available in Dolphin Grey Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect and Grenadilla Black Metallic. The SUV measures 4,792 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,789 mm.

Volkswagen Tayron Life – Interior Design and Features

The cabin remains largely identical to the R Line and continues to offer a premium experience. The dashboard layout is unchanged and buyers still get a 15 inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10.25 inch fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, three zone automatic climate control, dual wireless smartphone charging pads and wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The front seats continue to offer 12 way electric adjustment with lumbar support through Volkswagen’s ergoActive seats. They also feature eight massage programs, ventilation, heating, extendable thigh support and Smart Entry mode. Passenger seat adjustment through the infotainment system from the driver’s seat has also been retained.

Additional comfort features include rear AC vents with temperature controls, retractable rear sun blinds, keyless entry and start, rain sensing wipers, electronic parking brake with auto hold, powered tailgate with hands free opening and second row seats with sliding and reclining functions.

The only notable downgrade is the audio system. The Tayron Life gets an eight speaker sound system instead of the 11 speaker Harman Kardon setup found on the R Line. Boot space stands at an impressive 885 litres and can be expanded up to 2,090 litres with the rear seats folded.

Volkswagen Tayron Life – Powertrain and Safety

Powering the Tayron Life is the same 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine that produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all wheel drive system.

The SUV uses a McPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi link setup at the rear. Drivers can choose between six drive modes including Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual, Offroad and Snow.

Safety remains one of the strongest highlights of the Tayron Life. It comes equipped with nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS with 14 features, electronic stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic differential lock, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat mounts, auto dimming inside rear view mirror, anti pinch power windows, dynamic cornering lights, poor weather lights and three point seatbelts for all occupants.

Volkswagen Tayron Life – Market Positioning and Rivals

The Volkswagen Tayron Life competes with rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge and five seat versions of the Jeep Meridian. With its lower price, premium equipment list, all wheel drive system and the addition of Level 2 ADAS, it offers a compelling alternative for buyers looking for a premium five seat SUV. Like the Tayron R Line, the Life variant is locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra. Bookings are now open across authorised Volkswagen dealerships and through the Volkswagen India website.

Tata Motors has launched the 2026 Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition in India. The special editions are based on the Fearless Ultra trim of the Harrier and the Accomplished Ultra trim of the Safari. The Stealth Edition is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Prices for the Harrier Stealth Edition range from Rs 23.43 lakh to Rs 26.01 lakh, while the Safari Stealth Edition is priced between Rs 24.09 lakh and Rs 26.76 lakh, all prices ex showroom.

The launch comes shortly after Tata Motors introduced the Sierra EV in India, which became the fastest accelerating production car made by an Indian manufacturer with a claimed 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.8 seconds. With the Stealth Editions, Tata is now expanding the Harrier and Safari lineup with a new cosmetic package while retaining the feature list and mechanical setup of the top variants.

Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition – Exterior Design

The biggest highlight of the Stealth Edition is its exclusive Stealth Black exterior finish. Unlike the standard versions, these models receive a matte black paint scheme that gives both SUVs a more distinctive appearance. The 19 inch alloy wheels continue with the same design seen on the Dark and Red Dark editions but now feature a Matte Stealth Black finish.

Tata has also added Stealth badges on the front fenders to distinguish these versions from the regular models.Apart from these cosmetic changes, the overall design, dimensions and body profile remain unchanged. Both SUVs continue with their familiar styling and road presence.

Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition – Interior Design and Features

Inside, both SUVs receive an all black cabin theme that complements the exterior finish. The seats are finished in Carbon Noir leatherette upholstery, while the Terrain Response controller gets a premium bejewelled dial.

Since both Stealth Editions are based on the top variants, they retain the complete equipment list. Features include a 14.9 inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, powered and ventilated front seats, an adjustable front centre armrest and three Terrain Response modes consisting of Normal, Rough and Wet.

Other features include a 13 speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, dual zone automatic climate control, a voice assisted panoramic sunroof, Alexa connectivity and the Arcade app suite.

Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition – Powertrain and Safety

Mechanically, there are no changes. Both SUVs continue with the same engine options available on the standard models. The new 1.5 litre turbo petrol direct injection engine produces 170 hp and 280 Nm of torque, while the 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine develops 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 6 speed manual gearbox and a 6 speed automatic transmission with both engines.

Safety remains one of the strongest highlights. Both the Harrier and Safari have secured a 5 star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Program, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Since the Stealth Edition is based on the top trims, buyers also get a 360 degree camera and a comprehensive Level 2+ ADAS suite.

Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition – Market Positioning and Rivals

The Safari Stealth Edition competes with other three row SUVs including the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Mahindra Scorpio N, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. Meanwhile, the Harrier Stealth Edition rivals the MG Hector and also overlaps with the higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos due to its pricing.

With the Stealth Edition, Tata Motors has focused on offering a more exclusive appearance without altering the proven mechanical package. Buyers looking for a premium blacked out SUV with the latest features, multiple powertrain options and a strong safety package now have another choice within the Harrier and Safari range.

The post 2026 Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition Launched: What Has Changed? first appeared on Shutterdrives.

The post 2026 Tata Harrier and Safari Stealth Edition Launched: What Has Changed? appeared first on Shutterdrives.

The Tekton is Nissan’s badge engineered version of the Renault Duster. Bookings for the SUV are now open, while deliveries will begin from July 20. This is Nissan India’s second product launch of the year after the Gravite compact MPV, which made its debut earlier this year. In this article, we compare the Nissan Tekton with its badge engineered sibling, the Renault Duster, to see what has changed and what remains the same.

Although both SUVs share the same overall silhouette and body structure, Nissan has given the Tekton a distinct identity. The company says the design is inspired by the flagship Nissan Patrol, giving the SUV a more upright and squared appearance.

At the front, the Tekton gets slimmer LED headlamps connected by a full width light bar. The C shaped daytime running lamps are different from the eyebrow style units seen on the Duster. Nissan has also used a traditional front grille with the Nissan logo placed at the centre, while the TEKTON lettering is positioned on the bonnet. A unique red strip across the grille further helps distinguish the SUV from its Renault sibling. The front bumper has also been redesigned with reduced use of silver finished elements.

From the side, both SUVs continue to share features like heavy body cladding, front pull type door handles, rear door handles integrated into the C pillar and a shark fin antenna. However, the Tekton gets its own multi spoke 18 inch alloy wheel design, C shaped fender graphics and silver roof rails.

At the rear, the Tekton replaces the Duster’s triangular tail lamp design with new C shaped LED units inspired by the Patrol. The rear bumper also gets silver inserts that match the new lighting signature.

The Nissan Tekton is available in Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Pearl White, Flare Garnet Red, Indigo Blue and Moonbow Gray. Every colour is offered in both monotone and dual tone options. The Renault Duster, meanwhile, is available in ten colour options including four dual tone combinations.

Nissan Tekton vs Renault Duster – Interior Design and Features

Inside the cabin, the Tekton differentiates itself with a dual tone cream and burgundy upholstery, replacing the Duster’s black and green interior theme. Nissan has added rose gold finished inserts on the steering wheel, dashboard, centre console and door handles further give the cabin a different look.

Feature wise, both SUVs remain almost identical. They come equipped with a 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger and six way adjustable ventilated front seats.

On the safety front, both offer six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360 degree camera with blind spot assist, electronic parking brake and front and rear parking sensors. Both the Nissan Tekton and Renault Duster have earned a full five star Bharat NCAP crash safety rating.

Nissan Tekton vs Renault Duster – Powertrain

Mechanically, there are no differences between the two SUVs. Both are available with a 100 hp 1 litre turbo petrol engine and a 163 hp 1.3 litre turbo petrol engine. A six speed manual gearbox is offered with both engines, while the more powerful engine also gets a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

One important difference, however, is the absence of a strong hybrid announcement for the Tekton. Renault has already confirmed that the Duster will receive a strong hybrid powertrain during the festive season this year. Nissan has not confirmed whether the Tekton will receive the same option in the future, making this one of the biggest differences between the two SUVs.

The claimed fuel efficiency figures are also nearly identical. The 1 litre turbo petrol manual returns 19.4 kmpl in the Tekton compared to 19.41 kmpl in the Duster. The 1.3 litre turbo petrol manual delivers 17.8 kmpl against 17.75 kmpl, while the DCT automatic returns 18.5 kmpl compared to the Duster’s 18.45 kmpl.

Nissan Tekton vs Renault Duster – Price and Variants

Both SUVs start at Rs 10.49 lakh for the base 1.0 litre turbo petrol manual. The Tekton Visia+ is priced at Rs 11.14 lakh, making it Rs 55,000 more affordable than the Duster Evolution at Rs 11.69 lakh. The Tekton Acenta paired with the 1.3 litre DCT is also Rs 50,000 lower than the equivalent Duster Techno DCT.

In the higher variants, the Nissan Tekton N Connecta undercuts the Duster Techno by Rs 80,000 in both manual and DCT forms. The Tekton Tekna is also priced lower than the Duster Techno+ by Rs 90,000 with the manual and Rs 40,000 with the DCT. Only the range topping Tekton Tekna+ DCT is dearer by Rs 10,000 than the Duster Iconic DCT. Overall, the Nissan Tekton offers six variants compared to the Duster’s five while delivering better value across most comparable trims.

The post 2026 Nissan Tekton vs Renault Duster: Price, Variants, Engine Options Compared first appeared on Shutterdrives.

The post 2026 Nissan Tekton vs Renault Duster: Price, Variants, Engine Options Compared appeared first on Shutterdrives.

Nissan India has launched the much awaited Nissan Tekton mid size SUV at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex showroom). It is Nissan’s badge engineered version of the Renault Duster. Bookings for the mid size SUV are now open, while customer deliveries will begin from July 20.

The Tekton is the brand’s second product launch this year after the Gravite compact MPV, which made its debut in February. Nissan has also confirmed that it will introduce another new product by the end of the first quarter of next year as part of its renewed product strategy for the Indian market.

Nissan Tekton – Exterior Design

The Nissan Tekton gets a completely redesigned front fascia that draws heavy inspiration from the flagship Nissan Patrol, giving the SUV a more upright and muscular appearance compared to the Renault Duster. The front features an upright grille with twin chrome slats, flanked by slim LED headlamps. Connecting both headlamps is a full width C shaped LED daytime running light, while a distinctive red accent strip sits below the headlamp units. The lower bumper receives a dual tone finish along with LED fog lamps and a silver skid plate.

Viewed from the side, the overall silhouette remains similar to the Duster, but Nissan has added its own identity with newly designed 18 inch alloy wheels. The SUV also features flared wheel arches and a silver trim insert on the front doors. Conventional pull type handles are used for the front doors, while the rear door handles are neatly integrated into the C pillars.

The Nissan Tekton measures 4348 mm in length, 1815 mm in width and 1674 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2657 mm and offers 212 mm of ground clearance, making it one of the more capable offerings in the segment.

At the rear, the SUV gets a full width LED light bar integrated into C shaped tail lamps, matching the design language seen at the front. A roof mounted spoiler sits above the tailgate, while the rear bumper also features a dual tone finish with a silver skid plate. The Nissan Tekton is available in Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Pearl White, Flare Garnet Red, Indigo Blue and Moonbow Gray. Every colour is offered in both monotone and dual tone finishes.

Nissan Tekton – Interior Design and Features

Inside, the top variants of the Nissan Tekton receive a dual tone rose gold and burgundy dashboard that gives the cabin a premium appearance. The SUV comes with a three spoke steering wheel, a 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25 inch fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin features a dual tone cream and burgundy theme with leatherette upholstery, complemented by rose gold accents across the dashboard and centre console

The feature list includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, powered tailgate and six way powered and ventilated front seats. Other convenience features include dual zone climate control, a massive 700 litre boot, 32 litres of in cabin storage, Google Built in infotainment with more than 200 supported apps, remote engine start and Find My Car functionality. Like the exterior proportions, the cabin layout is largely carried over from the Renault Duster, with Nissan adding its own colours and trim finishes

Nissan Tekton – Powertrain and Safety

The Nissan Tekton shares its engines with the Renault Duster. The entry level 1.0 litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine develops 100 hp and 166 Nm of torque and is paired with a six speed manual gearbox.

Customers looking for more performance can opt for the 1.3 litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 163 hp and 280 Nm of torque. This engine is available with either a six speed manual transmission or a six speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

Nissan claims the 1.0 litre engine accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 12.46 seconds while delivering a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.4 kmpl. The 1.3 litre manual completes the same sprint in 9.51 seconds and offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.8 kmpl. The DCT version does the sprint in 9.89 seconds and delivers a claimed mileage of 18.5 kmpl.

The Nissan Tekton has also secured a five star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, 360 degree surround view camera and ADAS functions such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and blind spot warning.

Nissan Tekton – Variants and Pricing

Volkswagen India has teased the lower spec, non R Line version of the Volkswagen Tayron SUV ahead of its official launch on July 10. The new variant will join the Tayron R Line that was introduced in India earlier this year at a price of Rs 46.99 lakh (ex showroom). Unlike the five seat Tiguan, which is imported as a completely built unit, the Tayron is assembled locally, allowing Volkswagen to offer a more competitive price. With the arrival of a lower spec variant, the company is expected to make the seven seat SUV accessible to a wider range of buyers in the premium SUV segment.

Volkswagen Tayron – Expected Exterior Design

The latest teaser gives a first look at several exterior details of the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron. At the front, the SUV retains the same overall headlight design as the Tayron R Line. It features projector LED headlamps along with a connected LED light bar that stretches across the front fascia. An illuminated Volkswagen logo is positioned in the centre, in line with the newer VWs.

While the headlight design appears unchanged, Volkswagen has not revealed the grille and front bumper design. These are expected to receive a simpler treatment compared to the sportier R Line version, helping differentiate the two variants visually.

Global spec Tayron shown for reference

The side profile reveals a fresh alloy wheel design, although the exact wheel size remains unknown. For reference, the Tayron R Line comes equipped with 19 inch alloy wheels. The teaser also confirms gloss black wheel arches and roof rails. At the rear, the SUV gets connected LED tail lamps with another illuminated Volkswagen logo. The rear bumper is also expected to feature a unique design that is less aggressive than the R Line model.

Volkswagen Tayron – Expected Interior Design and Features

Inside, the lower spec Tayron is expected to retain the same overall dashboard layout as the R Line variant. Visible in the teaser is the free standing touchscreen infotainment system along with a fully digital driver’s display. While Volkswagen has not disclosed the screen sizes or detailed specifications, the cabin appears to maintain a premium look.

Other features seen in the teaser include blue ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and metal pedals. However, Volkswagen is expected to reserve several premium features for the higher spec R Line variant.

Volkswagen Tayron R line interior shown for reference

For reference, the Volkswagen Tayron R Line offers 12 way electrically adjustable front seats with memory function for three profiles. The seats also feature heating, ventilation, lumbar support and an eight mode massage function. Other highlights include a three zone Climatronic air conditioning system, an 11 speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a 700 watt output, wireless charging for two smartphones, dual high power USB C charging ports and an augmented reality head up display. It remains to be seen which of these features will be offered on the lower spec model when it launches.

Volkswagen Tayron – Expected Powertrain and Safety

Mechanically, the lower spec Tayron is expected to remain unchanged. It is likely to continue with the same 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine that powers the Tayron R Line. This engine develops 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque and is paired with a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Power is expected to be sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s all wheel drive system.

Volkswagen Tayron R line shown for reference

In terms of safety, the Tayron R Line comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS featuring 14 driver assistance functions. It also gets nine airbags, electronic stability control, hill ascent control and hill descent control as standard. Whether Volkswagen will offer the complete ADAS package and identical safety equipment on the lower spec variant remains to be seen. The final list of safety features will only be confirmed at the official launch.

Volkswagen Tayron – Expected Price and Rivals

As this is positioned as the more affordable version of the Tayron, Volkswagen is expected to price it below the Tayron R Line, which currently retails at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex showroom). The lower spec model is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 42 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once launched, the Volkswagen Tayron will compete with established rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the MG Majestor. With local assembly, a practical seven seat layout and a more competitive expected price, the new Tayron variant could attract buyers looking for a premium family SUV without stepping up to the fully loaded R Line.

Some motorcycles become successful because they sell in large numbers. Very few go beyond that and become part of people’s memories. The TVS Apache is one of those rare motorcycles.

Today, with more than seven million riders across the world, the Apache has established itself as one of India’s most successful performance motorcycle brands. But numbers alone do not define its legacy. Its story is built on college memories, late night rides with friends, weekend highway runs, racing aspirations, and the dream of owning a motorcycle that felt special without being out of reach.

For many Indians, the Apache was their first college bike. It was the motorcycle parked outside engineering colleges, seen outside cafes, and the machine that introduced an entire generation to performance riding. It was the motorcycle many of us admired before we could even afford one.

For me personally, the Apache carries a different memory. Growing up, I remember watching the Tamil film Ayan, where actor Suriya rode a bright yellow TVS Apache. There was something about the way the motorcycle looked on screen that stayed with me. Even today, every time I see an Apache on the road, it instantly reminds me of that film. It is one of those machines that quietly becomes part of your childhood without you even realizing it. That emotional connection is perhaps Apache’s biggest achievement.

TVS Apache – Roots in Racing Since 1982

Long before the Apache name existed, TVS had already built a reputation in Indian motorsport. TVS Racing began its journey in 1982, making it India’s first factory backed racing team. Over the decades, the company competed across road racing, rallying, motocross and endurance events, producing several national champions while continuously developing technologies on the racetrack before bringing them to production motorcycles.

Unlike many manufacturers that simply used racing as a marketing slogan, TVS consistently used motorsport as an engineering laboratory. The lessons learned from competition eventually laid the foundation for what would become the Apache brand. When the first Apache arrived, it carried years of racing experience behind it.

TVS Apache – The Motorcycle That Started It All

The journey began in late 2005 with the launch of the TVS Apache 150. Powered by a 147.55 cc air cooled short stroke engine producing 13.5 bhp, the motorcycle immediately established itself as a serious competitor in the growing 150 cc segment. It challenged established names like the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and the Hero Honda CBZ while offering a sportier riding experience.

More importantly, it changed how people looked at TVS. Until then, the company was largely associated with practical commuter motorcycles. The Apache proved that TVS could build motorcycles for enthusiasts as well.

TVS Apache – Racing Throttle Response “RTR”

In 2007, TVS introduced a name that would become iconic among Indian riders. The Apache RTR 160.

RTR stood for Racing Throttle Response, a name inspired directly by TVS Racing. The motorcycle brought sharper styling, stronger performance and India’s first fuel injected motorcycle in its segment. It quickly became one of the most popular choices among young riders looking for a balance of everyday usability and excitement.

The RTR family would continue evolving over the years through multiple updates, eventually receiving four valve technology, fuel injection, ABS and improved performance, allowing it to compete against motorcycles like the Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer and Honda CB Hornet. Even today, the RTR 160 remains one of the strongest pillars of the Apache lineup.

TVS Apache – Taking On Bigger Rivals

In 2009, TVS entered the 180 cc segment with the Apache RTR 180.At a time when the Bajaj Pulsar 180 dominated the category, TVS responded with a more powerful motorcycle producing 17.03 bhp and 15.5 Nm of torque. It immediately positioned itself as a genuine performance alternative.

Two years later, TVS made history by introducing ABS on the RTR 180, making it India’s first motorcycle to be offered with ABS. This was a major milestone for motorcycle safety in the country and showed that TVS was willing to bring premium technology to affordable motorcycles long before it became an industry standard.

TVS Apache – A New Era Begins

The biggest leap came in 2016 with the launch of the Apache RTR 200 4V.

Instead of simply increasing engine capacity, TVS developed an entirely new platform. The motorcycle introduced a new 198 cc oil cooled engine producing over 20 bhp, a race derived Double Cradle Split Synchro Stiff frame, rear monoshock suspension and the company’s new four valve cylinder head technology.

The RTR 200 became a technology showcase. Over time it gained riding modes, adjustable suspension, Bluetooth connectivity through SmartXConnect and several other segment leading features that demonstrated how quickly TVS was pushing the Apache brand forward. It was no longer just competing, it was beginning to lead.

TVS Apache – Taking India Global

In 2017, TVS entered a completely different league. The Apache RR 310 became the company’s flagship supersport motorcycle and marked the beginning of its collaboration with BMW Motorrad. Sharing its platform with the BMW G 310 RR while retaining TVS engineering and manufacturing expertise, the RR 310 brought premium engineering within reach of Indian enthusiasts. Powered by a 312 cc liquid cooled engine producing nearly 38 bhp, it became the fastest and most technologically advanced Apache ever built. More importantly, it gave the Apache name global recognition.

TVS Apache – Limited Editions and New Possibilities

TVS continued expanding the family with the Apache RTR 165 RP in 2021. Limited to just 200 motorcycles, it became the first model under the company’s Race Performance series. With higher output, revised gearing and exclusive styling, it celebrated TVS Racing’s engineering capabilities while becoming an instant collector’s motorcycle.

In 2023 came the Apache RTR 310. Sharing its mechanical foundation with the RR 310 but adopting an aggressive streetfighter design, it brought premium electronics, cruise control, climate controlled seat, tyre pressure monitoring system and multiple riding modes into a naked motorcycle segment that was rapidly evolving. It proved that Apache was no longer just about outright performance. It had become a technology leader as well.

TVS Apache – The Biggest Expansion Yet

After spending two decades building street motorcycles and supersport machines, TVS finally entered the adventure touring segment in 2025 with the Apache RTX.

The RTX became the first ever adventure motorcycle to wear the TVS Apache badge and represented an entirely new direction for the brand. Built around the all new 299.1 cc RT XD4 liquid cooled engine producing 36 PS and 28.5 Nm of torque, the motorcycle introduced ride by wire throttle, slipper clutch, quickshifter, multiple riding technologies and adventure focused ergonomics.

Rather than creating a completely separate identity, TVS chose to extend the Apache name into adventure touring, showing just how much trust and recognition the brand had built over twenty years. The Apache had finally grown beyond racetracks and city streets into a motorcycle built to explore the unknown.

TVS Apache – Seven Million Stories

Today, the TVS Apache family stretches across street motorcycles, fully faired supersports and adventure tourers while reaching riders in Latin America, Asia, Africa and several European markets. Yet the biggest achievement cannot be measured in sales numbers or export markets.

It lies in the memories. For one rider, it was the first motorcycle bought after landing a first job. For another, it was the motorcycle that waited outside college every morning. For someone else, it was the first machine that introduced them to racing. For me, it will always be that yellow Apache from “Ayan”.

That is what makes the TVS Apache special. It is not simply a motorcycle that has evolved through bigger engines, better technology and more performance. It is a motorcycle that has quietly grown alongside an entire generation of Indian riders. Seven million motorcycles later, the Apache story is no longer just TVS’ story. It belongs to everyone who has ever looked back at their motorcycle after parking it, smiled, and thought, this one is special.

The post The Story of TVS Apache: The Motorcycle That Grew Up With India first appeared on Shutterdrives.

The post The Story of TVS Apache: The Motorcycle That Grew Up With India appeared first on Shutterdrives.
