Maruti Wagon R Flex Fuel – Exterior Design

The exterior design remains identical to the standard Wagon R with no noticeable changes in styling. The showcased model featured flex fuel decals to distinguish it from the regular version. The current Wagon R sold in India comes equipped with 15 inch alloy wheels along with halogen headlamps and tail lamps.

The Wagon R is a 5 seater hatchback measuring 3655 mm in length, 1620 mm in width and 1675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2435 mm. At the rear, the showcased vehicle carried a “BioFlex” badge. Behind the fuel filler cap, an E85 sticker was present, indicating compatibility with ethanol blends up to E85.

Maruti Wagon R Flex Fuel – Interior Design and Features

The interior layout also appears unchanged. Maruti Suzuki has not revealed official details regarding the interior specifications of the flex fuel Wagon R. However, the standard Wagon R in its top variant continues to offer features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable mirrors and a dual tone cabin layout.

Safety specifications have not been announced for the flex fuel model. It is expected to carry over the safety package from the regular Wagon R, which includes six airbags, ABS, ESP, child safety locks, seat belt reminders for all seats and speed sensitive door locks.

Maruti Wagon R Flex Fuel – Powertrain 

The flex fuel Wagon R uses Maruti Suzuki’s K12N 1.2 litre petrol four cylinder engine. It comes with an advanced ECU calibration that allows the engine to adapt seamlessly to different ethanol blends. The Wagon R flex fuel showcased today is compatible with E100 ethanol, although it has been homologated for E85. It can essentially operate on any blend of petrol and ethanol ranging from E20 to E100. No official figures for power, torque or fuel efficiency have been disclosed. For reference, the standard Wagon R with the 1.2 litre engine produces 89 hp and 113 Nm of torque.

Maruti Wagon R Flex Fuel – Ethanol Infrastructure 

During the announcement, the Honourable Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, stated that the rollout of ethanol fuel infrastructure will begin with around 50 to 100 dispensing outlets across Delhi NCR and the Mumbai Pune Nagpur corridor. This number is expected to increase to 500 outlets by December this year, and further expand to approximately 5000 outlets across major cities by the end of next year.

Speaking at the launch event, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, said, “India imports a large quantity of crude oil every year, and biofuels like ethanol are an important pathway towards reducing this dependence while strengthening our rural economy. Flex-Fuel Vehicles can create a strong and sustainable demand for ethanol, benefiting our farmers, industry, and the environment together.

I appreciate Maruti Suzuki for taking this leadership step by introducing India’s first flex-fuel car and supporting the Government’s vision of clean and self-reliant mobility. I am confident that this initiative will encourage other car manufacturers to launch their flex-fuel models and oil industry to enhance ethanol distribution infrastructure.”

There are no major design changes compared to the standard models. Both motorcycles retain their familiar commuter styling. The flex fuel versions get new black with lime yellow graphics to differentiate them. The overall silhouette, body panels and hardware remain unchanged, keeping the focus on mechanical updates rather than visual changes.

Hero Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel – Features

Both the Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel are equipped with a digi analogue instrument cluster. They also get side stand engine cut off and tubeless tyres as standard.

The Splendor Plus Flex Fuel comes with the additional i3S idle stop start system, which helps improve efficiency in stop go traffic. Feature additions are minimal and aligned with their commuter positioning.

Hero Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel – Powertrain

Both motorcycles continue to use the 97.2 cc single cylinder engine, now updated to run on ethanol blends from E20 to E85. In E85 form, the engine produces 8.6 hp at 8000 rpm and 8.3 Nm at 6000 rpm. To support higher ethanol blends, Hero has updated the ECU calibration and added changes to the fuel system including a new fuel pump and secondary fuel filter. Safety equipment includes side stand engine cut off and tubeless tyres. There are no changes to braking hardware or chassis setup compared to the standard models.

Hero Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel – Price and Variants

The HF Deluxe Flex Fuel is priced at Rs 72,792 while the Splendor Plus Flex Fuel costs Rs 82,710, both ex showroom Delhi. The HF Deluxe Flex Fuel carries a marginal premium over its E20 compliant version, while the Splendor Plus Flex Fuel is priced higher by Rs 5,153. Both motorcycles will be available initially in Delhi and select regions of Maharashtra from July 2026, with a nationwide rollout planned at a later stage. With this launch, flex fuel technology moves into the mass commuter space, making it more accessible in one of the highest volume segments in the country.

Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Car – June 4 Unveil Confirmed

The upcoming vehicle is expected to support E100 fuel, which typically contains around 93 to 93.5 percent ethanol, with the remaining portion made up of petrol and a co solvent. This places the car at the forefront of flex fuel technology in India, where such solutions are still at a very early stage. While flex fuel vehicles can run on multiple ethanol petrol blends, an E100 compatible setup represents a more advanced level, as it is specifically tuned to operate on near pure ethanol.

Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Car – What to Expect

Maruti Suzuki has not officially revealed which model will debut this technology. However, there is strong speculation that it could be based on either the Fronx or the Wagon R. Both cars play an important role in the company’s lineup in terms of volumes, and introducing flex fuel tech on a widely sold model would help assess how practical and scalable it is for Indian buyers. The final confirmation will come only at the time of the unveil.

This move has been in the works for some time. Suzuki had earlier showcased a fully ethanol powered version of the Fronx at the Japan Mobility Show. That concept demonstrated the brand’s efforts in developing engines that can efficiently run on high ethanol blends. Bringing a similar setup to India suggests that the technology is now closer to real world application.

The announcement also ties in with earlier comments from Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, who had indicated that Maruti Suzuki would bring a flex fuel vehicle to the Indian market. That statement had already sparked discussions around ethanol based mobility, especially as India continues to focus on reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.

Flex fuel vehicles are being seen as a practical step for India, where a complete transition to electric mobility will take time due to cost and infrastructure challenges. Ethanol, which can be produced domestically, offers an advantage by improving energy security and lowering emissions compared to conventional petrol. A car that can run on E100 could play a role in cutting tailpipe emissions while also supporting the agricultural sector linked to ethanol production.

For Maruti Suzuki, this also fits into its broader multi powertrain approach. The company has been relatively cautious with electric vehicles but has shown interest in hybrids and alternative fuels. Adding a flex fuel model strengthens this strategy and gives the brand another pathway towards cleaner mobility.

The June 4 unveil will be closely tracked, not just for the product itself but for what it represents. If received well, a flex fuel vehicle running on E100 could pave the way for wider adoption of ethanol fuels in India, gradually building a more diverse and sustainable fuel ecosystem.
