The MG Majestor, the brand’s upcoming flagship SUV, has completed a high-altitude off-road drive to the summit of Mount Japfu in Nagaland. Standing as the second-highest peak in the state, Mount Japfü is known for steep gradients, loose surfaces, and narrow forest trails. The drive was carried out as part of MG’s advanced testing and validation programme, ahead of the Majestor’s official unveiling scheduled for February 12, 2026.

This expedition marks a key milestone for the MG Majestor, which is being marketed as India’s first D+ segment SUV. The drive involved navigating constantly changing terrain conditions, including rocky paths and sharp inclines, with MG’s engineering team present to assess vehicle behaviour in real-world off-road scenarios.
MG Majestor – Mount Japfu Expedition
The Mount Japfu climb was conducted with support from the Kohima Adventure Motorsports Club, whose familiarity with the region played a role in enabling the ascent. During the drive, the MG Majestor was subjected to sustained low-speed manoeuvring, traction tests, and gradient management across difficult surfaces. According to MG, the exercise was aimed at evaluating drive modes, traction control systems, and overall off-road dynamics under extreme conditions rather than controlled test environments. By completing the climb, the MG Majestor becomes the first SUV from its segment to reach the summit.

MG Majestor – Expected Exterior Design
The Majestor is expected to adopt a more upright and muscular design language compared to existing MG SUVs sold in India. Spy images and previews suggest a tall stance with a large front grille, squared-off proportions, and a strong road presence. The overall silhouette is likely to look bulky, butch and have a high ground clearance, aligning with its positioning above the standard D-segment.

Design elements are expected to include vertically stacked lighting signatures, a wide track, pronounced wheel arches, and large alloy wheels. The Majestor is also expected to be one of the longest and widest SUVs in its class, further differentiating it from rivals positioned below it.
MG Majestor – Expected Interior and Features
Inside, the Majestor is expected to focus on space, comfort, and technology. The cabin layout is likely to feature a wide dashboard design with a large touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Premium materials, including soft-touch surfaces and leather upholstery, are expected to be part of the package.
Feature highlights could include powered and ventilated front seats, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, advanced driver assistance systems, and connected car technology. Given its flagship positioning, the Majestor is expected to place importance on rear-seat comfort, making it suitable for both self-driven and chauffeur-driven use.
MG Majestor – Expected Powertrain Options
While MG has not officially confirmed powertrain details, the Majestor is expected to be offered with a 2.0 litre twin-tubro diesel engine, likely paired with an eight speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel-drive system is also expected to be available, especially considering the vehicle’s off-road positioning and the Mount Japfu validation drive.

MG Majestor – Market Positioning and Rivals
The MG Majestor is expected to slot into the D-segment SUV space in India. In terms of positioning, it is likely to compete directly with established models such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and the recently unveiled Volkswagen Tayron R-Line.
The Majestor is expected to focus on offering a combination of size, road presence, and off-road capability, along with a good feature list aimed at buyers in this segment. Pricing is expected to reflect its flagship status, placing it above the MG Gloster in the company’s lineup.
