Hyundai Motor India Limited has appointed Tarun Garg as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective from January 1, 2026. The appointment marks a milestone for the company, as Garg becomes the first Indian to head Hyundai’s operations in the country since the brand began its India journey nearly 30 years ago.
A seasoned automotive professional with more than three decades of industry experience, Garg steps into the role with a strong background spanning sales, marketing, dealer network operations, finance, and product planning. His elevation reflects Hyundai Motor Group’s growing confidence in local leadership, especially as India continues to emerge as a key market in the company’s global strategy.

Going forward, Hyundai Motor India under Garg’s stewardship is expected to prioritise future-oriented mobility solutions, deepen customer-focused initiatives, and further align with the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision. These plans are supported by the company’s previously announced investment commitment of Rs 45,000 crore by FY 2030, which will be channelled toward electric and hybrid vehicles, connected technologies, and the expansion of domestic manufacturing and export capabilities.

Garg has been closely involved in shaping Hyundai’s recent success in India. During his tenure in senior leadership roles overseeing sales, service, and marketing and later as Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer the automaker posted record-breaking sales for three years in a row, alongside its strongest profitability and EBITDA performance. He was also instrumental in steering the company through its landmark public listing in 2024.
In addition to business growth, Garg is widely recognised for his emphasis on inclusive and people-centric initiatives. Among these is ‘Samarth by Hyundai’, a programme aimed at improving accessibility and awareness for individuals with disabilities, underscoring a leadership approach that extends beyond numbers and balance sheets.
