Ferrari 849 Testarossa Launched In India, Hybrid V8 Produces Over 1000 HP: Details

Ferrari has launched the Ferrari 849 Testarossa in India at a price of ₹10.37 crore, ex showroom, before options. The new hybrid supercar replaces the SF90 Stradale as the brand’s flagship mid engined model in the Indian market.

The model was first unveiled globally in September 2025, and it marks the return of the iconic Testarossa name after almost three decades. The original Ferrari Testarossa was a mid engined V12 supercar that remained in production between 1984 and 1996, and it became one of Ferrari’s most recognisable road cars during its time.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Exterior Design

The design of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa has been developed by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni. Ferrari states that several of the vertical and transverse lines on the car draw inspiration from aeronautical engineering and from sports prototype race cars of the 1970s.

At the front, the car features a bridge like horizontal fascia that visually connects the headlights. Similar design elements can also be seen on the Ferrari 12Cilindri and the Ferrari F80. According to Ferrari, this design creates a visual ratio between the volumes and the voids across the surface and also generates a full width spoiler effect across the front of the car.

The front end also features L shaped LED headlamps and a layered bumper with an integrated air dam. From the side, the 849 Testarossa features a low slung stance that is typical of a mid engined Ferrari. The car also gets a blacked out roof and A pillars, along with prominent air intakes positioned behind the doors. The overall profile is distinctly supercar like and carries a strong visual presence.

At the rear, the car features slim LED tail lamps along with a high mounted dual exhaust system and a large rear diffuser. As expected from a mid engined Ferrari, the powertrain sits beneath a glass engine cover which allows the engine to be visible from the outside. The rear design is also defined by two aerodynamic tail structures that draw inspiration from the Ferrari 512 S, which are integrated with an active rear wing as part of a patented aerodynamic solution developed by Ferrari.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Interior Design

Inside the cabin, the Ferrari 849 Testarossa adopts a driver focused layout with a horizontal dashboard design.  The upper portion of the dashboard features a floating visual effect and integrates C shaped air vents finished in aluminium. The lower portion of the dashboard incorporates two architectural sail elements that house various control functions. These sail elements also integrate with the steering wheel design which takes inspiration from the layout seen on the Ferrari F80.

Ferrari has also redesigned the central tunnel in order to distribute the secondary controls in a more minimalist manner. The interior integrates both digital and analogue elements, and several mechanical controls are shared with the Ferrari F80, including the engine start button and the quick reconfiguration controls for the various driving modes.

The car is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and also supports wireless smartphone charging. Connected features are provided through the MyFerrari Connect system. Ferrari will also offer extensive personalisation options for customers.

The seats are offered in two configurations. Customers can choose a comfort oriented full seat with sculptural cushioning, while a carbon fibre racing seat with pronounced side bolsters is also available for a more track focused setup.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Powertrain

Powering the 849 Testarossa is a 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 plug in hybrid powertrain supported by three electric motors. Two electric motors are mounted on the front axle, while the third motor is positioned between the engine and the gearbox bell housing.

The V8 engine alone produces 830 hp, while the combined system output stands at 1,050 hp. Power is delivered to all four wheels through an eight speed dual clutch transmission. Ferrari claims that the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.3 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 330 kmph. The hybrid system uses a 7.45 kWh battery pack, which enables electric only driving for a claimed range of up to 25 km under suitable conditions.

Drivers can select between four different driving modes, which include eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify. In eDrive mode, the car can travel on electric power alone for up to 25 km. Ferrari has also improved the cooling performance of the electric motors compared to the system used in the SF90. Despite the addition of several performance related components, Ferrari states that the overall weight of the 849 Testarossa remains comparable to that of the SF90 due to extensive weight optimisation measures.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Safety Features

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa is equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, automatic emergency braking and cyclist protection. The system also includes blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist. Additional features include automatic high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, surround view camera, rear cross traffic alert and driver fatigue monitoring.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Assetto Fiorano Package

Ferrari will also offer the Assetto Fiorano package as an optional specification that focuses on maximising the car’s dynamic and aerodynamic performance. This package introduces the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fibre and titanium, which results in an overall weight reduction of approximately 30 kg.

The specification also includes a new lightweight tubular seat design upholstered in Alcantara, which reduces weight by around 18 kg compared to the standard seats. The package also includes 20 inch carbon fibre wheels that further reduce unsprung mass.

Ferrari 849 Testarossa – Market Positioning and Rivals

In the Indian market, the Ferrari 849 Testarossa will compete with the Lamborghini Revuelto. The Revuelto also uses a hybrid powertrain, although it combines electric motors with a naturally aspirated V12 engine, while the Ferrari uses a twin turbo V8 hybrid setup. Both models represent the latest generation of electrified high performance supercars from their respective brands and sit at the top of their product portfolios.
