The fifth generation Honda City is all set to receive its second facelift in India, with an official launch scheduled for May 22, 2026. First introduced in 2020 and updated once in 2023, the upcoming iteration aims to keep the City competitive in an increasingly feature-rich midsize sedan segment. The facelifted model has already been spotted testing internationally, including in Brazil, hinting at subtle yet meaningful updates.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Exterior Design
Based on recent spy shots, the changes to the exterior design of the updated City appear to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The overall silhouette of the sedan is expected to remain unchanged, retaining its familiar proportions and road presence.
However, Honda is likely to introduce a revised front fascia, which could include a redesigned bumper and updated LED headlamps. These elements may take inspiration from Honda’s global design language, lending the City a sharper and more contemporary look. At the rear, minor tweaks are expected in the form of redesigned tail lamps and a revised bumper, helping freshen up the appearance without altering the core design of the car. The aim appears to be a subtle refresh rather than a complete overhaul.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Interior Design and Features
Inside the cabin, the facelifted City is expected to focus on enhancing the in-car experience through feature upgrades. The current model already offers a well-equipped interior, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a premium sound system, ambient lighting, a PM2.5 air filter, and automatic climate control.
With increasing competition, Honda may introduce a larger touchscreen unit to improve usability and match segment expectations. Additionally, new features such as ventilated front seats and a 360 degree camera system could be added, both of which are becoming increasingly common in this segment.
There is also speculation about the introduction of a panoramic sunroof, replacing the current single pane unit. However, this remains unconfirmed and will only be validated at the time of launch. Overall, Honda is expected to retain the existing feature set while adding select enhancements to keep the City relevant.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Powertrain Options
Mechanically, the facelifted City is expected to continue with the same set of powertrain options currently available in India. The standard petrol variant is powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine producing 121 HP and 145 Nm of torque. This engine is offered with either a 6 speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox.
The highlight of the lineup remains the strong hybrid variant, which combines a 1.5 litre petrol engine with an electric motor. This setup produces a combined output of 124 HP and 233 Nm of torque, making it the only hybrid sedan currently available in its segment.
While there is a possibility of minor refinements for improved efficiency or drivability, a significant increase in power output is unlikely. Honda is expected to focus on reliability and efficiency rather than outright performance gains.
Honda City Facelift – Market Positioning and Rivals
Once launched, the updated City will continue to compete in the midsize sedan segment against key rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia.
The Verna recently received a major update with several segment leading features, raising the bar in terms of technology and performance. Meanwhile, both the Virtus and Slavia have been spotted testing updated versions and are expected to receive facelifts later in 2026, indicating increased competition in the segment.
Currently, the petrol variants of the City are priced between Rs 11.95 lakh and Rs 16.05 lakh, while the hybrid variants range from Rs 19.48 lakh to Rs 22 lakh, ex showroom. With the addition of new features in the facelifted model, a slight increase in pricing is expected.
