The JSW Group is preparing to deepen its footprint in the Indian passenger vehicle market with the formation of a new automotive venture, JSW Motors. The conglomerate had previously entered the sector through its partnership with MG Motor India, which now operates as JSW MG Motor India. However, the group is now charting an independent path with its own brand, even as it continues its collaboration with MG.
JSW Motors has teased its first product for India, widely understood to be a rebadged iteration of the Jetour T2 SUV from Chinese automaker Chery. The vehicle, expected to carry JSW branding and potentially a new model name, is likely to receive select design revisions to align with the company’s positioning and brand identity. While such changes remain speculative at this stage, the core architecture and silhouette are expected to be retained.
JSW Jetour T2 – Manufacturing and Launch Timeline
JSW Motors is currently establishing a manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, formerly known as Aurangabad. The plant is expected to serve as the production base for the upcoming SUV, with local assembly planned. Market introduction is anticipated by late 2026, although an earlier unveiling in the second half of the year remains a possibility depending on regulatory clearances and production readiness.
The company has already commenced dealership recruitment across key regions, actively scouting for partners. This development indicates that groundwork for the commercial rollout is progressing steadily.
JSW Jetour T2 – Design and Dimensions
Globally, the Jetour T2 is marketed in China and select international markets including the Middle East. The SUV adopts a distinctly boxy profile with pronounced retro-inspired styling cues. Its visual character draws inspiration from larger global off-road oriented SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,785 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height. It rides on a 2,800 mm wheelbase, which positions it competitively within the premium mid-size SUV segment. The overall stance is upright and substantial, reflecting its off-road oriented design philosophy.
Internationally, the model is available in six exterior colours including Black, Sand, Sun Orange, Lime Green, Misty Cyan, and Silver Snow. It remains to be seen which colour palette will be introduced for the Indian market.
JSW Jetour T2 – Powertrain and Mechanical Specifications
In markets such as Dubai, the Jetour T2 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 250 hp and 390 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission. Both all-wheel drive and two-wheel drive configurations are offered overseas.

The SUV is equipped with intelligent terrain response systems, including multiple drive modes and an intelligent creeping mode designed to assist in low-speed off-road conditions. The exact powertrain configuration for India is yet to be confirmed, as JSW Motors may recalibrate specifications to suit domestic regulatory requirements and market preferences.
Jetour T2 – Interior and Features
The cabin layout reflects a premium orientation. Key highlights include a 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting, and leather upholstery. The dashboard integrates metallic-finished rotary knobs and tactile controls. Two interior themes are offered internationally, namely a green-themed cabin and a tan-themed cabin. Feature levels and upholstery combinations for the Indian market are expected to be tailored based on pricing strategy and target demographics.

Jetour T2 – Strategic Significance
The introduction of JSW Motors marks a significant milestone for the JSW Group as it transitions from being a strategic partner in the automotive domain to an independent manufacturer. The decision to begin operations with a rebadged and locally assembled SUV allows the company to expedite its entry into a competitive segment while leveraging existing global product platforms.
With dealership recruitment underway and manufacturing infrastructure in development, JSW Motors appears to be laying the foundation for a structured market entry. Further announcements regarding branding, specifications, pricing, and official timelines are expected in the coming months.
If executed effectively, the launch could intensify competition in the premium SUV category and reinforce the growing presence of new automotive brands in India’s evolving mobility landscape.
