The Mahindra Thar three door is set to receive a new facelift, and recent spy shots confirm that testing is already underway. The updated model is expected to launch later this year. The second generation Thar has been on sale since 2020 and has remained one of the most popular lifestyle SUVs in India. It already received a mid life update in 2025 which brought feature upgrades like a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel, and an integrated reverse camera mounted neatly to work with the rear spare wheel setup.
Now, the latest round of spy images suggests that Mahindra is working on a more comprehensive design refresh. The updates appear to be heavily inspired by its sibling, the Thar Roxx, which introduced a more modern and slightly urban friendly take on the rugged Thar formula. This facelift could help the three door version stay fresh in an increasingly competitive market.
Mahindra Thar Facelift – Expected Exterior Design
Starting with the exterior design, the front end is expected to see the biggest changes. Despite the heavy camouflage, it is clear that the SUV could feature a redesigned grille that takes cues from the Thar Roxx. The headlights are also likely to be updated with LED projector units along with C shaped daytime running lamps that give it a more contemporary look. The front bumper is expected to be revised as well, which could add a slightly sharper appearance without taking away from its off road character. The test mule was also seen running on new alloy wheels, hinting at a refreshed design for the wheels.

Moving to the rear, the updates continue with redesigned tail lamps that again seem to be inspired by the Thar Roxx. The lighting elements appear more modern compared to the current model. There is also a revised rear bumper. That said, the overall silhouette of the SUV remains unchanged. The boxy stance, short overhangs, and upright proportions continue to define the Thar. Dimensions are expected to remain the same as before.

Mahindra Thar Facelift – Expected Interior Design and Features
There are no confirmed spy shots of the interior yet, but the current setup is already quite modern. The Thar now comes with a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system that features updated off road graphics. It also gets a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. With the facelift, Mahindra could further refine the cabin with minor updates to materials or features, though no major changes are expected at this stage.

Mahindra Thar Facelift – Expected Powertrain
On the mechanical front, the Mahindra Thar facelift is likely to continue with the same engine options. These include a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 132 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. There is also a 2 litre turbo petrol mStallion engine that delivers 150 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. For those looking for a more accessible option, the 1.5 litre diesel engine will continue as well, producing 119 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is offered only with rear wheel drive.

Transmission options are expected to remain unchanged. A 6 speed manual gearbox comes as standard across all variants. The 4×4 variants with the petrol and larger diesel engines also offer a 6 speed automatic transmission as an option, which has been quite popular among buyers looking for convenience.
Mahindra Thar Facelift – Expected Pricing
In terms of pricing, the current Mahindra Thar is priced between 9.99 lakh rupees and 17.19 lakh rupees ex showroom. With the facelift bringing updated styling and possibly a few new features, a slight increase in price is expected. While there is no official launch timeline yet, the frequency of test sightings suggests that the launch could take place in the coming months.
