The Thar Earth edition gets cosmetic enhancements

Mahindra has launched a special edition of their popular off-roader Thar called the Earth edition. Priced from Rs 15.40 Lakhs (Ex-showroom), it comes with few cosmetic enhancements and is based on the top LX trim. It will only be available with a Hard Top. It remains mechanically unchanged.

Mahindra Thar Earth edition; what’s new

Talking of changes, the Thar Earth edition comes finished in a new “Desert Fury” shade. Outside, it also features body coloured grille and ORVMs, custom decals, Earth edition badging on B Pillars and matte black badging. The alloy wheels retain their design, but now come finished in silver.

Moving on inside, the Earth edition gets a new interior colour theme with the seats finished in a dual-tone black and beige shade with a ‘shifting dunes’ pattern. There is also the steering wheel twin-peaks logo which is now finished in dark chrome, along with trims such as the AC vents, steering wheel trim and centre console trim painted to match the exteriors. Mahindra also says that the Earth edition Thars will get a unique VIN plate starting from serial number 1.

Mahindra Thar Earth edition: Engines, Variants & Price

Under the hood, the Earth Edition remains unchanged. It gets 4×4 as standard and remains powered by 2.2L diesel producing 130HP and 300NM of torque while the 2.0L turbo-petrol is also available producing 150HP and 320NM torque. Both engines come mated to either a 6 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed torque converter AT. Additionally, the Thar Earth edition will be available only with the LX 4×4 Hard Top variant.

Prices for the Petrol MT start at Rs. 15.40 Lakhs while the Petrol AT can be had for Rs. 16.99 Lakhs. On the other hand, the Diesel MT is priced at Rs.16.15 Lakhs with the Diesel AT priced at Rs. 17.60 Lakhs (All prices Ex-showroom). Notably, this is a premium of Rs. 40,000 over the respective regular variants.

The Mahindra Thar has no direct rivals, however being a lifestyle vehicle, it competes with other off-roaders such as the Maruti Jimny and its own sibling, the Mahindra ScorpioN.
