Maruti Suzuki Ciaz bids goodbye: Production stopped

Maruti Suzuki India has officially halted production of the Ciaz sedan, as confirmed by Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales. With the discontinuation of the Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki is expected to focus on expanding its SUV lineup and investing in hybrid and electric vehicle technology.

Launched in 2014, the Ciaz was positioned to compete with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, and Nissan Sunny. It gained popularity for its spacious cabin, fuel efficiency, and affordability, making it a strong performer in the mid-size sedan segment, particularly between 2017 and 2018. However, despite a facelift in 2018, the model saw a steady decline in sales.

By the 2024-25 fiscal year, Ciaz sales had dropped 34% year-over-year, reflecting a broader market shift toward SUVs, which gained preference for their road presence, higher ground clearance, and rugged appeal. Additionally, competitors introduced more advanced features, leaving the Ciaz struggling to stay competitive.
