Mercedes-Benz CLA EV to launch in India on this date: What we know so far

Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the Mercedes CLA EV in India in April 2026. The electric sedan is already available globally and will serve as the new entry level model in Mercedes electric range for India.

In the Indian market, the Mercedes CLA EV will replace the A Class sedan and also take the place of the EQA and EQB electric SUVs. This means the CLA will become the starting point for buyers looking to enter Mercedes electric cars in India. While the car is already on sale internationally, Mercedes has not yet confirmed the final India specific specifications. All details mentioned below are based on the international version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – Exterior Design

The Mercedes CLA EV has a simple exterior design focused on efficiency. At the front, the car does not use a traditional grille. Instead, it gets a closed panel with the Mercedes logo placed at the centre. The LED headlamps are slim and connected by a light strip across the front.

The side profile of the CLA EV is smooth and low. Flush door handles are used to reduce air resistance. In international markets, the Mercedes CLA is offered with alloy wheels ranging from 17 inch to 19 inch. These wheels are designed to optimize aerodynamics and to improve efficiency. Overall, the Mercedes CLA has a clean sedan shape designed to improve range and reduce drag.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – Interior Design and Features

Inside, the Mercedes CLA EV uses a dual screen based layout. The international model comes with two 14 inch displays. One display is used as the digital instrument cluster and the second is the main touchscreen for infotainment and vehicle settings. There is also an optional third display for the front passenger. This screen can be used for navigation, media playback and other functions. It is not yet confirmed whether the triple screen layout will be offered on the India spec CLA.

The dashboard design is simple with limited physical buttons. Most controls are handled through the touchscreen and the steering wheel. The steering wheel includes touch controls for audio, driving modes and driver assistance systems.

In the international version, the Mercedes CLA uses recycled and eco friendly materials for parts of the cabin. Final interior materials and trims for the Indian market will be confirmed at launch. Other features offered globally include powered front seats, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging and an optional premium sound system.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – Range and Battery Pack

The Mercedes CLA is built on an 800 volt electric architecture. This system allows faster charging and better energy efficiency. In international markets, the CLA EV is offered with an 85 kWh battery pack.

The CLA 250+ version of the Mercedes CLA EV offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 792 km. This figure is based on international test standards and real world range may vary. With the 800 volt system and updated battery chemistry, the CLA EV supports fast DC charging. Under ideal conditions, it can add up to 325 km of range in around 10 minutes using a high speed fast charger. Charging performance in India will depend on available charging infrastructure.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – Safety Features

The international version of the Mercedes CLA has received a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating. Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring and a 360 degree camera system.

Advanced driver assistance systems available internationally include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring. Final safety features for the India spec Mercedes CLA EV will be confirmed closer to launch.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV – India Launch and Market Positioning

Mercedes has confirmed that the Mercedes CLA will be launched in India in April 2026. Once launched, the CLA will become the most affordable electric car in the Mercedes lineup for India.

By replacing the A Class sedan and the EQA and EQB electric SUVs, the Mercedes CLA will act as the entry point for buyers moving into Mercedes electric mobility. Pricing and final specifications will be announced at the time of launch. While there is currently no direct entry level luxury electric sedan on sale in India, the Mercedes CLA EV will compete with non luxury electric sedans such as the BYD Seal. In terms of market positioning, it will also be compared with entry level luxury electric SUVs like the Volvo EX40 and the BMW iX1 long wheelbase, despite the difference in body style.
