The much awaited next generation Toyota Fortuner has been finally caught testing under heavy camouflage in Thailand. While the test mule conceals most of its visual details, these latest spy shots give us a fair idea of what we can expect from the upcoming model. The new generation Fortuner is slated for launch sometime later this year in global markets. Here is a look at what this popular full size SUV could bring to the table in its next iteration.
New Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Exterior Design
When it comes to exterior design, even under heavy camouflage, certain key elements are noticeable. The front fascia appears to be completely new and is expected to feature a split headlamp design. We can also see what looks like a revised grille and a new front bumper layout. The side profile however seems to remain largely similar to the current generation Fortuner.

The signature body line along the doors appears to have been retained. We also expect to see new alloy wheel designs on the updated model. Moving to the rear, the test mule hints at a completely new tail lamp setup which appears to feature a connected design. Another important addition which could finally make its way into the Fortuner is the inclusion of a sunroof which has long been requested by buyers in markets like India. The next generation Fortuner is expected to share a lot of its underpinnings with the new generation Toyota Hilux which was unveiled last year.

New Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Interior Design and Features
Although interior spy shots are not available at the moment, it is expected that the cabin layout will draw heavy inspiration from its pickup sibling. The new generation Hilux could serve as the base for several design elements inside the Fortuner. This may include a revised dashboard layout, updated infotainment system and improved material quality across the cabin. These changes are speculative at this stage but are likely considering the shared platform between the two models.

New Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Powertrain
On the powertrain front, the Toyota Fortuner is expected to continue with the same 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine which now comes paired with a 48 volt mild hybrid system. This technology is already available in India with the Fortuner and was introduced as the Neo Drive variant last year. The upcoming model is expected to continue offering both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options along with manual and automatic transmission choices. In addition to this, there is also the possibility of a petrol hybrid powertrain being introduced.
New Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Safety Features
In terms of safety, we can spy what appears to be an ADAS module integrated into the front bumper as well as the windscreen of the test vehicle. While this indicates that advanced driver assistance systems could be offered in the next generation Fortuner, this can only be confirmed once the car is officially launched.

New Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Launch Date and Rivals
The next generation Fortuner is expected to be launched in global markets in late 2026. An India launch should follow soon after which means we could see the SUV arriving on our shores by the early or mid 2027.
Once launched, the Fortuner will continue to compete against rivals such as the MG Majestor, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R Line and the Jeep Meridian in India. In global markets such as Thailand and Indonesia, it will take on competitors like the Ford Everest (Endeavour), Mitubishi Pajero Sport and the Isuzu MU-X.
