Toyota Land Cruiser FJ

New 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ revealed globally: Small on Size Big on Attitude

Japanese auto giant Toyota has revealed the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ SUV globally. This compact yet rugged SUV brings the legendary Land Cruiser’s off-road DNA into a smaller, more approachable package. The FJ is set to make its debut in mid-2026, launching first in Japan before expanding to other international markets. It joins the existing 300, 70, and 250 Series, broadening the Land Cruiser range and offering options for a wider variety of buyers.

As far as Toyota’s India lineup is concerned, the most recent addition is the Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition, which brings subtle cosmetic enhancements and feature upgrades to the SUV.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Exterior Design

Built on a platform developed from Toyota’s IMV series, the FJ is engineered for serious off-road performance. It boasts wheel articulation similar to the 70 Series and a shorter wheelbase – 270mm less than the Land Cruiser 250 – which enables a tight 5.5-metre turning radius. Dimensionally, the FJ measures 4,575 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,960 mm in height, with a 2,580 mm wheelbase.

The FJ retains the classic boxy silhouette of its larger Land Cruiser siblings but comes with distinguishing touches. Buyers can select between two front-end designs: one with rounded headlights and another with rectangular units. A small rectangular grille, LED headlights with C-shaped DRLs, and chunky front and rear bumpers reinforce its rugged persona. Additional styling cues include thick body cladding, flared rectangular wheel arches, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, giving it both off-road utility and a commanding presence.

For practicality, Toyota has fitted removable front and rear corner bumpers, allowing owners to easily replace damaged sections after tough off-road runs. The FJ can also be tailored with numerous accessories, including rock rails, raised air intakes, roof-mounted ARB racks, and MOLLE panels on the tailgate for extra gear storage.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Interior Design

Inside, the FJ sticks to Toyota’s functional and robust design philosophy. It comes with a chunky steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a wide infotainment screen mounted on a sturdy dashboard. Physical climate control knobs and a durable gear shifter add to the vehicle’s practical nature. On the safety front, the FJ comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, offering adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and pre-collision braking.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Powertrain

Under the hood, the FJ is powered by a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 161hp and 246Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system for capable off-road performance. This engine has been a mainstay in models like the Innova Crysta and Fortuner across multiple markets. As Toyota rolls out the FJ globally, additional powertrain options, including a diesel and hybrid variant, are expected to be introduced.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Land Hopper Concept

Toyota is also working on a new electric personal mobility vehicle called the Land Hopper, aimed at transporting both people and cargo. While details and a launch timeline remain undisclosed, the concept focuses on off-road usability, particularly on unpaved trails in mountainous and forested areas. Designed to be compact enough to fit in a car’s luggage compartment, the Land Hopper is intended to complement vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ by allowing users to explore terrain beyond their reach and extend travel experiences beyond conventional roads.
