2026 Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Production Begins: To launch on this date

Volkswagen Taigun is set for a mid life update as Volkswagen has officially started production of the facelifted model in India. This will be the brand’s second launch this year, with the official launch scheduled for April 9. The updated Taigun has already been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads, giving us an early look at what to expect.

The Taigun shares its platform with the Skoda Kushaq, which also received a facelift earlier this year. Since its launch in 2021, Volkswagen has sold over 143,000 units of the Taigun, with nearly 30 percent of those being exported to international markets.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Exterior Design

Based on the images released by Volkswagen from the start of production, the facelifted Volkswagen Taigun gets a refreshed front design. There is a redesigned front fascia featuring new headlights and an updated grille. The headlights now come with new LED DRLs along with a connected light strip, giving it a more premium and modern look. This design is similar to what we have seen on larger Volkswagen SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Tayron.

The front bumper has also been reworked with new air intakes that feature chrome surrounds. There is also a silver finished skid plate that adds to the SUV stance. Volkswagen has not released images of the rear yet. However, based on earlier spy shots, major changes are not expected. The overall silhouette is likely to remain the same, with small tweaks to elements like the tail lights. Final details will only be confirmed at launch.

On the side, the Taigun facelift gets new dual tone alloy wheels. Apart from this, the side profile appears largely unchanged. More details such as dimensions and ground clearance will be officially revealed at launch.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Interior Design and Features

There are no official images of the interior yet, which means exact changes inside the cabin remain unknown. However, the Taigun facelift is expected to retain most of the existing features. These may include a 10.2 inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25 inch fully digital driver display. Other expected features are powered and ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and a wireless phone charger.

The Kushaq facelift gets features like panoramic sunroof, powered front seats with ventilation and a rear seat with massage function. It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen adds similar features to the Taigun or introduces something different to create some separation between the two models.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Powertrain Options

The current Taigun is offered with two petrol engine options. There is a 1 litre TSI engine producing 115 hp and a 1.5 litre TSI turbo petrol engine producing 150 hp. The 1 litre engine is paired with either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed torque converter automatic. The 1.5 litre engine comes with a 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox. With the updated Kushaq, Skoda introduced a revised gearbox setup where the 1 litre engine now gets an 8 speed automatic. Volkswagen could bring a similar change to the Taigun facelift as well, although this will be confirmed at launch.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Expected Safety Features

Volkswagen has consistently focused on safety with the Taigun, and the facelift is expected to continue that approach. The current model already has a strong safety reputation with a 5 star crash safety rating. The updated model is expected to carry forward features like multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill hold assist, and ABS with EBD. Any additions or updates to safety features will be confirmed closer to launch.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift – Market Positioning and Rivals

The current Taigun is priced between Rs 10.58 lakh and Rs 19.18 lakh ex showroom. With the facelift and added features, a slight price increase is expected.

Once launched, the Taigun facelift will continue to compete in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Key rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Martui Suzuki Grand Vitara & Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate and Tata Sierra. It will also continue to rival its platform sibling, the Skoda Kushaq. With the facelift, Volkswagen will aim to keep the Taigun fresh in a segment that continues to see strong demand in India.
