5 reasons that make the Mercedes Benz EQS SUV a great luxury EV

Mercedes-Benz has had a great time for the past few years in India. With their SUVs in high demand, it has now decided to launch the EQS SUV as their flagship electric SUV. What’s more, it is being assembled in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked-Down kit) unit which makes it even more competitive. We tell you 5 reasons below which make the EQS SUV a great purchase if you’re in the market for a large family electric luxury SUV today.

1. A whopping 809km range

The EQS SUV gets a massive 122kWh battery pack- the largest fitted to any Mercedes Benz till date. This massive battery results in a superb 809Km of range (ARAI-claimed) figure. This figure is higher than what some internal combustion powered rivals do on a full tank of fuel even. With such a proposition including 200kW DC fast charging capability, it is as ready for long trips as any other luxury SUV.

2. Rear axle steering

Another nifty little trick the EQS SUV has up its sleeve is the rear axle steering which immensely helps in moving this massive machine with precision and little effort. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front ones to make maneuvering tight spaces easy by reducing the turning circle by upto 2 metres. At higher speeds however, they turn in the same direction providing enhanced stability and comfort that would only otherwise be achieved by a longer wheelbase.

3. A Grand Burmester audio system

Giving your ears a good kick is the 15 speaker 710W Burmester sound system with 3D surround sound and Dolby Atmos technology. What’s more, each individual seat in the car can have differently tuned sound with the rear passengers also getting a pair of over-the-ear noise cancellation headphones as part of the Rear Seat Comfort package.

4. Brisk Progress

As much as the EQS SUV focuses on being the complete car for the family, it is no slouch when such a request is presented to itself. Two motors making a combined 544HP and a mammoth 858NM of torque send all that energy to all four wheels via the quick AWD system. This propels the EQS SUV form 0-100kmph within 4.7 seconds upto a top speed of 210Kmph. The Airmatic air suspension and 21 inch AMG alloy wheels only aiding the handling while doing such speeds.

5. The Hyperscreen

SUV also gets the massive Hyperscreen with an OLED display containing 3 smaller screens making up the digital cockpit, the infotainment touchscreen as well as a passenger display. With a crisp response and plethora of features, it gets some very cool stuff like augmented reality maps and MBUX interior assistant making up the list.

The EQS SUV has been launched in a single trim at a price of Rs. 1.44 Cr.(Ex-showroom). It will rival other luxury electric SUVs such as the BMW iX and Audi Q8 E-tron among others.
