Yamaha Motor India is finally gearing up to plug into the EV space with not one, but two new electric scooters – the Aerox E and the EC-06. Both models are set to arrive in early 2026, with prices expected to start at around ₹2.2 lakh for the Aerox E and ₹1.5 lakh for the EC-06 (ex-showroom). While the company hasn’t revealed all the details yet, the first official images and specs give us a pretty clear picture of what to expect.

Yamaha Aerox Electric – Design

The Aerox E carries the sporty DNA of its petrol-powered sibling, retaining the sharp twin-LED headlamps, sleek tail-lamp design and aggressive stance that the Aerox 155 is known for. Subtle blue highlights hint at its electric nature, while a new TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity replaces the older LCD setup. Yamaha has also revised the ergonomics for a more comfortable riding posture, although the underseat storage has slightly shrunk due to the placement of the battery pack.

Under the skin, the Aerox E uses a 9.5kW motor powered by two removable 1.5kWh batteries. Together, they produce 48Nm of torque and deliver a claimed range of up to 106km per charge. The scooter weighs 139kg which is about 13kg more than the ICE version and offers multiple ride modes including Eco, Standard, and Power, along with a short-duration Boost mode for extra punch during overtakes. It also features a front and rear disc setup with ABS for confident braking.

Yamaha EC-06 Electric – Design

Alongside the Aerox E, Yamaha also showcased the EC-06, an all-new scooter co-developed with Bengaluru-based EV start-up River. This model is essentially a refined and reimagined version of the River Indie, infused with Yamaha’s own design and engineering touches. While it shares its mechanical foundation with the Indie, the EC-06 looks noticeably more aggressive, featuring angular side panels, a sharper front apron, and a vertically stacked LED headlight setup that gives it a distinctive face.

The upper portion of the front cowl gets a black finish, while a colour LCD display with integrated telematics and SIM-based connectivity sits neatly above the handlebars. The EC-06 also offers three riding modes and a reverse assist function handy in tight urban spaces. Practicality has been well thought out too, with 24.5 litres of underseat storage, enough to store a helmet or a small backpack.

Powering the EC-06 is a 4kWh battery pack paired with a 6.7kW motor, the same combo seen on the River Indie. Yamaha claims a top speed of 90kph and an impressive 160km range on a single charge (IDC cycle). A full recharge, however, takes about nine hours.

With the Aerox E and EC-06, Yamaha is clearly betting on a future that blends its signature sporty character with emerging electric tech promising not just eco-friendliness, but excitement on two wheels.
