Toyota has unveiled its first fully electric vehicle for the Indian market, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking the company’s formal entry into the country’s battery electric passenger vehicle segment. The electric SUV expands Toyota’s electrification portfolio in India beyond hybrids, as the manufacturer begins testing the waters in a market that is seeing a steady rise in EV adoption across price points.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is the Toyota-badged counterpart to the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, with both models having been co-developed as part of the long-standing product-sharing alliance between the two manufacturers. Bookings for the vehicle are scheduled to open from January 20, 2026, with prices to be announced at a later date.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – Exterior Design
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella adopts a design language that aligns with current global EV styling trends while retaining SUV proportions. At the front, the vehicle features Toyota’s hammerhead-style fascia, paired with slim LED headlamps and a closed-off grille design typical of electric vehicles. The bumper design incorporates sharp horizontal elements, contributing to a wide visual stance.

While the underlying proportions and body structure are shared with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella differentiates itself through brand-specific styling elements, including revised front-end treatment, lighting signatures, and surface detailing that align it with Toyota’s global design identity.
The rear design is defined by wraparound LED tail lamps connected visually through a horizontal lighting element, reinforcing the vehicle’s width. Overall, the exterior styling is contemporary rather than aggressive, aimed at appealing to a broad urban audience.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – Interior Design
Inside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella’s cabin follows a dual-tone theme with soft-touch materials in key contact areas. A two-spoke steering wheel with a squared-off design sits ahead of a fully digital instrument cluster.
The dashboard layout is dominated by digital cockpit with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment display. Toyota has integrated features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting with 12 colour options, and a panoramic glass roof.

Seating is configured for five occupants, with sliding and reclining rear seats that adds flexibility. Ventilated front seats, multiple USB charging points, wireless phone charging, and a premium JBL audio system are part of the equipment list. Practicality remains a focus, with a 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat layout enabling varied cargo arrangements.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – Battery Pack and Range
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is offered with two lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options: a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61 kWh unit. The smaller battery produces 142hp of power, while the larger pack delivers 172 hp, with both configurations offering 189 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels.

TKM claims that the 61 kWh version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella offers a driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge. The vehicle supports both AC and DC fast charging, including CCS2 compatibility, allowing for flexible charging options across home and public infrastructure.
Additional features such as battery pre-heating and a heat pump system are included to improve efficiency and performance in varying climatic conditions, particularly during colder weather.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – Technology and Safety
Technology plays a central role in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. Connected car features allow remote monitoring of charging status, battery health, and climate control through smartphone integration.
On the safety front, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is equipped with seven airbags as standard. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) at Level 2 include features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. A 360-degree camera, parking sensors, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts further reinforce the safety package.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – Market Positioning and Rivals
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella enters a rapidly expanding electric SUV segment in India, where range, safety, and brand reliability are key decision factors. Positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, it is expected to compete with models such as the Mahindra BE6, XEV 9e, Hyundai Creta EV , MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev, and upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Final pricing will play a decisive role in determining how competitively the vehicle sits against established and upcoming rivals.

Commenting on the new offering, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Chairman, Managing
Director & Chief Executive Officer, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “The introduction of All-
