EVs available in India with Battery as a Service: MG Comet EV to Hyundai Creta Electric

One of the biggest hurdles to the adoption of electric vehicles is their relatively higher prices compared to combustion powered cars. The higher upfront cost of EVs, mainly due to the battery pack, makes ICE cars more accessible. JSW MG Motor India was the first mainstream automaker to introduce the Battery as a Service ownership model in India. The company launched the concept in September 2024 alongside the MG Windsor EV.

Since then, brands such as Citroen, Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Tata Motors, Toyota and most recently Hyundai have started offering Battery as a Service schemes, allowing customers to purchase an EV without paying the full battery cost upfront. Instead, buyers pay a subscription fee based on the distance driven. Here is a look at all the electric cars in India currently available with the Battery as a Service option.

EVs offered with BaaS – MG Windsor EV

MG introduced the Battery as a Service ownership plan in India with the Windsor EV, which was launched in September 2024 with a 38kWh battery pack. A larger 52.9kWh battery was added in May 2025.

The battery subscription fee is Rs 3.9 per kilometre for the 38kWh version and Rs 4.5 per kilometre for the larger battery pack. Buyers can reduce the upfront purchase cost by as much as Rs 5 lakh through this scheme.

EVs offered with BaaS – MG Comet EV

The MG Comet EV is the brand’s most affordable electric car in India, with standard prices starting from Rs 7.63 lakh. The Comet comes with two variants a 17.3 kWh battery pack and 17.4 kWh battery pack. It also gets features like dual 10.25 inch screens, leatherette seats, reverse camera and LED lighting on higher variants.

The Battery as a Service option lowers the entry price by Rs 2.64 lakh. Customers choosing this plan pay a battery rental fee of Rs 3.2 per kilometre.

EVs offered with BaaS – MG ZS EV

The MG ZS EV became part of the Battery as a Service programme in September 2024. Equipped with a 50.3kWh battery pack, the electric SUV carries a subscription fee of Rs 4.5 per kilometre. The ZS EV competes against rivals like the Creta Electric, Sierra EV and e Vitara to name a few.

The scheme reduces the upfront purchase price by as much as Rs 5.24 lakh, making it the largest cost reduction offered across MG’s electric vehicle range.

EVs offered with BaaS – Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors also offers the Punch EV under its Battery as a Service programme. While the standard model starts from Rs 9.69 lakh, the subscription plan lowers the initial purchase cost by Rs 3.20 lakh. Customers opting for this scheme pay a battery rental charge of Rs 2.6 per kilometre.

Tata Punch EV facelift

The Punch EV is offered in two battery packs, a 30 kWh version and a larger 40 kWh battery pack. The 40 kWh variants get a lifetime warranty on the battery pack.

EVs offered with BaaS – Tata Tiago EV

The Tata Tiago EV just received a facelift in the month of May. With the facelift Tata motors also introduced the Battery as a Service scheme for the Tiago EV and the starting price drops to Rs 4.69 lakh, reducing the upfront cost by Rs 2.30 lakh.

The Tiago EV is available with two battery packs, the 19.2 kWh battery pack and the larger 24 kWh battery pack. The battery subscription fee is Rs 2.6 per kilometre. Tata Motors is yet to announce the complete variant wise Battery as a Service pricing.

EVs offered with BaaS – Citroen eC3X

Citroen introduced the Battery as a Service option for the eC3X as part of its June 2026 update. The scheme reduces the purchase price by up to Rs 5.26 lakh. Buyers pay a battery subscription fee of Rs 2.26 per kilometre, the lowest among all manufacturers currently offering this model.

Citroen e-C3X

The plan comes with a minimum monthly commitment of 2,000 kilometres, translating to Rs 4,520 per month. Customers who do not choose the Battery as a Service option can instead avail an introductory discount of up to Rs 1.50 lakh.

EVs offered with BaaS – Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, is also available with a Battery as a Service plan. The subscription fee varies depending on the battery pack selected.

Customers choosing the 49kWh battery pay Rs 3.99 per kilometre, while those opting for the larger battery 61 kWh pack pay Rs 4.39 per kilometre.

EVs offered with BaaS – Kia Carens Clavis EV

Kia introduced Battery as a Service for the Carens Clavis EV in May 2026, making it the only electric MPV in India currently offered with this ownership model.

The subscription fee is Rs 3.3 per kilometre for both the 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery options. Depending on the variant, buyers can reduce the upfront purchase cost by up to Rs 6.06 lakh.

EVs offered with BaaS – Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

Toyota’s first electric vehicle for India, the Urban Cruiser Ebella, is also offered with a Battery as a Service option. The top specification E3 variant uses a 61kWh battery pack with a claimed driving range of 543 kilometres.

Under the subscription plan, the upfront purchase price is reduced to Rs 15.25 lakh, while the battery rental fee is fixed at Rs 4.99 per kilometre, making it the highest subscription charge among the models listed here.

EVs offered with BaaS – Hyundai Creta Electric

Hyundai recently introduced the Battery as a Service model for the Creta Electric, making it the latest manufacturer to adopt this ownership approach. The SUV is available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery pack options.

Under the scheme, prices start from Rs 10.99 lakh, reducing the upfront cost by up to Rs 7 lakh, while the battery subscription fee is Rs 3.9 per kilometre. Hyundai has currently announced BaaS pricing only for the base variant, with prices for the remaining variants yet to be revealed.

With Hyundai joining the list, Battery as a Service is steadily becoming a mainstream ownership option across India’s electric vehicle market, giving customers greater flexibility while reducing one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption.
