BMW i5 M60 launched at Rs 1.20 Crore; 601HP and 516KM range!

BMW has launched the i5 electric sedan at a price of Rs. 1.20 Crore (Ex-showroom). The latest electric offering from BMW will be available only in a single high-performance M60 xDrive variant at launch and will be brought in as a CBU. Based on the latest G60 generation of the 5 series globally, its ICE powered versions are expected to launch later this year with an extended wheelbase.

BMW i5 M60: Design, Interior & Features

Talking of the styling, the i5 follows BMWs latest design philosophy with swept back sharp headlamps at the front along with a generous use of gloss black on the grille and bumper. Towards the side you have a classic long bonnet and a steeply raked windshield which is a design hallmark of the 5 series. At the rear, it gets a pair of horizontal taillamps with LED lighting along with vertical reflectors and a gloss black diffuser on the rear bumper.

Inside, the dashboard is dominated by twin curved screens acting as the instrument cluster as well the infotainment system which run BMWs latest 8.5 OS. There are also Sports seats with electric adjust and ventilation as standard while customers can opt for Comfort seats as well. You also have what BMW calls a ‘Panorama Skyroof’ which extends from the tip of the windshield all the way till the end of the roof. Other equipment includes an 18-speaker 655W Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, M Leather steering wheel, carbon fibre trim, Adaptive LED headlights with high beam assist and ADAS Level 2 features among other equipment.

BMW i5 M60: Performance, Price

Underneath, the i5 M60 gets powered by a dual-motor setup making 601HP and 795NM of torque. This enables it to achieve a 0-100Kmph time of 3.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 230Kmph. Mounted on the front and rear axles, the motors also give it xDrive all-wheel-drive capability. Behind this is an 81.20kWh battery pack giving it a claimed WLTP range of 516Km. BMW will provide an 11kW home charger as complimentary while customers can also buy a 22kW AC fast charger as an option. The i5 also gets active rear wheel steering for better agility along with an Adaptive M suspension with electronically adjustable dampers with the stiffer M suspension with active roll stabilisation also available as an option.

The i5 M60 xDrive is available in a single variant priced at Rs. 1.20 Crore (Ex-showroom) and will be imported as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit). The car comes with a 2 year/unlimited Km warranty as standard with the battery having a warranty of 8 years/ 1,60,000Kms. Bookings have been opened since earlier this month with deliveries expected to commence soon. The i5 M60 will compete with other luxury EV sedans such as the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
