BMW iX1 launched at Rs. 66.90 Lakhs

The iX1 becomes the entry-level EV for BMW in India

The all-electric BMW iX1 can be yours for Rs. 66.90 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). It also becomes the third all-electric BMW to be sold in India and will also be the brand’s entry level EV. It joins the i4, iX and i7 in BMW’s EV lineup.

BMW iX1 Exterior & Interior; what’s changed

On the outside, the iX1 is almost identical to the regular X1 and most people would not notice the changes. At the front, there is an “i” badge denoting the electric drivetrain on the grille. The iX1 also gets Adaptive LED headlamps unlike its ICE-siblings. Another change is all BMW logos on the car get a blue ring to denote the same. It also gets 18 inch alloy wheels on the outside. Four colours are available-  Space Silver, Black Sapphire and Storm Bay and Alpine White.

Inside as well, not much has changed and it continues to feature a curved 10.7 inch iDrive 7 infotainment system along with a 10.25 inch digital cockpit. There are also features such as massaging front seats, a 12 speaker Harman Kardon music system, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seats, dual-zone climate and more. Boot space is rated at 490 litres.

BMW iX1 Powertrain

Under the hood, the iX1 gets powered by a dual-motor setup with one on each axle paired to a 66.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This combination produces 313HP and 494NM of torque while the range is a WLTP-claimed 440Kms. The iX1 can do 0-100Kmph in 5.6 s before hitting a top speed of 180Kmph. Being a dual motor setup, it also gets xDrive all-wheel-drive system with electronically controlled ‘Automatic Differential Brakes/Locks’ (ADB-X) system.

Exclusive to the iX1 is also an Adaptive M suspension. BMW says the iX1 has a 130kW DC fast charging capability which tops up the battery from 10-80% within just 29 minutes. BMW will also provide an 11kW AC wallbox charger which charges the car from 0-100% within 6.3 hours along with the car as standard.

Safety includes ADAS Level 2 features such as Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Protection which are also exclusive to it. Other safety features include 6 airbags, Traction Control, Corner Braking Control, Hill Start Assist, ESC, Hill Descent control and EPB with auto hold among else.

BMW iX1 Price & Rivals

BMW has launched the iX1 in a single xDrive 30 M Sport trim at a price of Rs. 66.90 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). This puts it in the company of other electric crossovers such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It is being brought as a Completely Built-Up Unit (CBU) with local CKD assembly being on the cards at a later date if successful.
