2025 BMW X5 Launched in India at Rs 1 Crore: Here’s How it Stacks Up Against GLE, Q7

BMW India has introduced the updated BMW X5 for this calendar year, produced locally at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai. The SUV arrives in both petrol and diesel configurations, with pricing starting at ₹1.02 crore and extending up to ₹1.15 crore (ex-showroom). With a minor design enhancements, enhanced interiors and technology, and an expanded off-road package, Most recently BMW India celebrated 50 years on the 3 series with the launch of the 330Li M Sport and M340i 50 Jahre Edition.

BMW X5 – Exterior Design

The updated BMW X5 features adaptive matrix LED headlights carrying blue accents and a L-shaped tail-lamp design. Standard 21-inch alloy wheels add to its sporty stance, while the M Sport Pro package introduces gloss black accents on the kidney grille, air breathers, and tailpipes. BMW X5 – Interior Design

Inside, the BMW X5 is a mix of both technology and comfort. A curved widescreen display, combining a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch infotainment unit under a single glass surface, flanks the cabin. Comfort Seats with electric adjustment and lumbar support come as standard, along with a Harman Kardon surround system, four-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Upholstery choices include perforated Sensafin in Cognac for the standard variants, while the M Sport Pro trim adds BMW Individual ‘Merino’ leather in shades like Tartufo and Ivory White, M Seat belts and BMW Individual piano black trim.

BMW X5 – Engine and Powertrain

The SUV continues to offer six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines under the hood. The 3.0-litre petrol motor in the BMW X5 xDrive40i produces 381 hp and 520 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the 3.0-litre diesel in the BMW X5 xDrive30d develops 286 hp and 650 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Both powertrains feature a 48V mild-hybrid system that delivers an additional 12 hp and 200 Nm, BMW claims this improves efficiency and throttle responsiveness. Power is managed through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, supported by BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Adaptive 2-axle air suspension is standard tuned for both comfort and sporty driving.

A highlight is the newly introduced xOffroad package, now standard across the range. It offers four selectable modes—xSand, xRocks, xGravel, and xSnow. The offroad mode optimizes vehicle dynamics for varying terrains. What’s also new is reinforced underbody protection and a dedicated off-road display add to the SUV’s offroad capability.

BMW X5 – Safety Features

The BMW X5 has a strong and comprehensive suite of driver-assist systems, including Cruise Control, Parking Assistant Professional with surround-view cameras, Reversing Assistant, and remote parking through a smartphone. Standard safety equipment includes eight airbags, Dynamic Stability Control with Cornering Brake Control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and an emergency spare wheel. Features such as Attentiveness Assistant and collision sensors aim to provide a higher level of occupant security.

BMW X5 – Variants and Pricing

The updated BMW X5 is available in four variants, with prices starting at ₹1.00 crore (ex-showroom). The petrol-powered xDrive40i is priced at ₹1.00 crore, while its M Sport Pro version goes up to ₹1.13 crore. On the diesel side, the xDrive30d is listed at ₹1.02 crore, with the xDrive30d M Sport Pro topping the range at ₹1.15 crore. These prices mentioned are ex-showroom.

BMW X5 – Market Positioning and Rivals

With prices starting just above the ₹1 crore mark, the BMW X5 positions itself against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, and Volvo XC90. While the segment has become increasingly competitive, BMW’s decision to standardize the off-road package and enhance in-cabin digital features is clearly aimed at strengthening the X5’s value proposition. The X5 also benefits from BMW Financial Services’ flexible ownership plans, including assured buyback options and custom service packages.
