Citroen has taken wraps off their next offering in India, to be called Basalt. Unveiled as the Basalt Vision Concept, it is claimed to be very close to production specifications and will launch in the second half of this year. The coupe SUV will be priced around the range of Rs. 15-20 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).

Citroen Basalt Vision concept: Design

While still a concept, the Basalt Vision will be very close in terms of design to it’s production form. Based on the CMP modular platform, it is the fourth product of its C Cubed program. Talking of the design, the front end is similar to its sibling, the C3 Aircross featuring X shaped DRLs, a high bonnet line and a large air dam underneath. It also gets Citroen’s new logo on its nose. Below, there is a faux silver skid plate with some interesting detailing above it.

Moving on towards the side, you have a very unique coupe roofline which curves to merge into the boot in a sedan-like fashion. This lends a signature look to the rear doors which are unlike what we see in other cars. Then there is also chunky black cladding which runs above the wheel arches and on the running board. There is also an interesting element placed at the end of the window line. We can also see old school flap-type door handles that Citroen has used here.

At the rear, the Basalt features a short and stubby tail with a massive rear windshield. The taillights have the same proportions as the C3 Aircross with a squared off three-dimensional look, although the shape here is more elongated. Below, you also have a bumper with the same chunky black cladding as the sides and a prominent silver faux skid plate. Based on claims, the Basalt will measure similar in length to the C3 Aircross but will not have a third row due to the obvious roofline.

Citroen Basalt Vision concept; Features, Engines, Price

While interiors have not been revealed yet, expect them to be similar to the existing C3 twins albeit with a lot more features. From these images, one can see equipment such as projector headlamps, rear disc brakes, ORVM mounted indicators etc. Also expected are features such as cruise control, auto folding mirrors, keyless entry and go, rear ac vents and more which are currently not available with the C3 twins. Under the hood, it is expected to get powered by the same 1.2L turbo-petrol engine from its siblings mated to either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed torque converter automatic transmissions. Moreover, a fully-electric version is also expected but it will come at a later date with only the petrol available at launch.

Prices for the Basalt could range anywhere from Rs. 15-20Lakhs (Ex-showroom) with a significant premium over the C3 Aircross, however being a coupe-SUV, it will have no direct rivals when launched.
