Citroen eC3 scores 0 star in Global NCAP crash test

Lack of ESC automatically disqualified the eC3

  • Bodyshell rated as stable
  • 1 star child occupant protection
  • Side pole impact test not conducted

Global NCAP has released the crash test results of the Citroen eC3 under the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. It is one of last cars to be tested by the agency with the advent of Bharat NCAP. The electric crossover scored a poor 0 stars for adult occupant protection while scoring a measly 1 star for child occupant protection. While the bodyshell was found to be stable, Global NCAP notes the lack of a few crucial safety features which resulted in a poor score.

In the frontal impact test, the eC3’s footwell was rated as unstable. Further, for the front occupants, the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good while the driver’s chest
showed weak protection and passenger’s chest showed poor protection. However, the car lost major points on the fact that the seatbelt reminders did not comply with the set standards and the lack of ESC and seatbelt pretensioners offered even as an option.

As for the side impact protection, the head showed marginal protection, chest showed adequate protection and abdomen and pelvis
showed good protection for the occupants. However, side pole impact test was not conducted due to a lack of side and curtain airbags and ultimately resulted in a poor overall rating. Overall, the eC3 scored 20.86 points out of 34 for adult occupants with a 0 star rating and 10.55 points out of 49 for child occupant protection.
