MG Motor announces JV with JSW; Cyberster sportscar showcased

Merged entity to be called JSW MG Motor India

  • Cyberstar sportscar, MG 4 hatchback and 5 MPV showcased

MG Motor India has announced a joint venture with JSW group for a 51% stake. With the development, JSW is expected to invest around Rs. 5000 Crores into MG Motor’s India business.

JSW MG Motor future plans

According to JSW MG Motor, this collaboration with JSW group will help in developing a robust EV ecosystem with forward and backward integration of the supply chain as JSW Group is also in the process of setting up battery manufacturing plants in Odisha and Gujarat. MG also aims to increase production at its Halol plant in Gujarat from the current 1,00,000 units per year to more than 3,00,000 units. As a part of its commitment, the joint venture will also set up an R&D facility in the country focusing on autonomous and connected car technology.

Aggressive launch strategy

A major part of the MG 2.0 will be a focus on an aggressive onslaught of EVs and PHEVs. For this, the brand also aims to start a separate, more premium retail network for its premium offerings. These premium offerings will be the main focus for the brand in the next few years. As per this strategy, there will be grounds-up new models developed for India and launched every 3 to 6 months apart. The first of these new offerings will launch as early as festive season 2024.

At the event, it also showcased few models under consideration for future launch including the MG4 electric hatchback, 5 MPV and the Cyberster electric sportscar.

There was also a convertible MG Comet EV concept on display finished in a dark green wrap. Along with these, the rest of the current lineup was also shown including the Comet EV, Astor, Hector, ZS EV and Gloster Blackstorm.
