The Honda City facelift has been spied testing in Brazil, indicating that a fresh update is on the way for the popular sedan. This will mark the second mid life update for the fifth generation City, which has been on sale in India since 2020. The model already received its first update in 2023. With the latest test mule now spotted, expectations are building around what Honda could bring with this update. While a launch timeline for India is not confirmed yet, it is likely to arrive later this year.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Exterior Design
Based on the spy shots, the changes to the Honda City facelift appear to be subtle rather than dramatic. Unlike earlier expectations that the design could take inspiration from the newer Civic, the test car suggests that Honda is sticking to a more conservative approach.
The rear section shows slight revisions, including redesigned tail lamps and a tweaked bumper. These changes are expected to freshen up the look without altering the overall identity of the sedan. The front section has not been fully revealed yet, but there is a possibility of a revised headlamp setup along with a new bumper design. Overall, the facelift seems to focus on refinement instead of a complete overhaul, which aligns with Honda’s usual design philosophy for the City.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Interior Design and Features
There are no spy images of the cabin yet, but the current Honda City already comes well equipped. It offers an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a premium sound system, ambient lighting, a PM 2.5 air filter, and automatic climate control.
With rising competition in the segment, Honda is expected to add more features to stay ahead. Ventilated front seats could be introduced, which is a feature now becoming common in this category. A 360 degree camera system is also expected, as rivals have already started offering it. These additions would help the City remain competitive, especially when buyers are increasingly looking for feature rich cabins.
Honda City Facelift – Expected Powertrain
Mechanically, the City facelift is expected to remain unchanged. The current model is offered with a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. This engine is available with a 6 speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
In addition to this, Honda also offers a strong hybrid variant with a 1.5 litre petrol engine paired with electric motors. This setup produces 124 horsepower and 233 Nm of torque, making it one of the most efficient options in the segment. Both these powertrain options are likely to be carried forward in the facelift, as they continue to deliver a balanced mix of performance and efficiency.
Honda City Facelift – Market Positioning and Rivals
Once launched in India, the updated City will continue to compete with established rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus. These models have raised the bar in terms of design, performance, and features, pushing Honda to keep evolving the City.
Currently, the petrol variants of the City are priced from Rs 11.95 lakh to Rs 16.05 lakh ex showroom. The hybrid variants range from Rs 19.48 lakh to Rs 22 lakh ex showroom. With the upcoming update and added features, a slight increase in pricing is expected.
