Honda Cars India has added a new variant to its City sedan lineup with the launch of the Honda City Sport. This version introduces aesthetic tweaks and minor cabin updates, along with the inclusion of Honda’s ADAS suite, while keeping the mechanical package unchanged.
The Honda City Sport is being introduced in limited numbers and will be sold only with a CVT gearbox. The aim appears to be appealing to younger customers looking for a slightly differentiated visual package without deviating from the City’s strengths. The previous update that the City received was in the form a special edition dubbed the “Apex Edition”.
Honda City Sport – Design and Exterior Updates
The Honda City Sport is visually distinguished by a series of blacked-out elements. These include a black front grille, black shark-fin antenna, black ORVMs, and a trunk lip spoiler finished in gloss black. The edition also receives grey multi-spoke alloy wheels and a ‘Sport’ badge on the boot.No sheet metal changes have been made. The overall silhouette, dimensions, and lighting remain consistent with the regular City.
Honda City Sport – Interior Changes
Inside, the City Sport features a black theme with red accents. The seats are leather-wrapped and stitched in red, which continues onto the door pads and steering wheel. Honda has also blacked out the headliner and A/B/C pillars.
A red dashboard trim and glossy black air vents further differentiate it from the standard model. The model also comes with a 7-colour ambient lighting system, placed across the cabin to enhance night-time visibility and aesthetic appeal.
Honda City Sport – Engine and Performance
There are no performance upgrades. The Sport is powered by the same 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine producing 121 PS and 145 Nm, paired exclusively to a CVT gearbox. The engine is now E20 fuel compliant. Paddle shifters are included, offering some manual control over gear changes. Claimed fuel efficiency stands at 18.4 km/l. No hybrid or manual options are available for this variant.
Honda City Sport – Safety Features
A key feature addition in the City Sport is Honda SENSING, the company’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It includes: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam
These features were earlier offered only on select City and City e:HEV trims. Their inclusion here aligns with segments rising demands for active safety features.
Honda City Sport – Colour Options and Availability
The City Sport will be available in the following three colour options: Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Meteoroid Gray Metallic. This edition will be offered in limited units, though no specific production number has been disclosed.
Honda City Sport – Pricing
The City Sport has been launched at an introductory price of ₹14.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This places it above the standard petrol CVT variants and below the City hybrid.
With no changes to powertrain or major equipment additions beyond styling and ADAS, the premium pricing positions the City Sport as a niche offering within the lineup.
Honda City Sport – Positioning in Segment
The City enters a shrinking sedan segment increasingly defined by niche variants and visual differentiation. Competitors such as the Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia/Volkswagen Virtus offer turbocharged engine options and dual-tone styling packages, while Volkswagen has leaned into performance-led branding. The City Sport does not introduce any mechanical enhancements or new features unavailable elsewhere in the City lineup.
Honda City Sport – Conclusion
The City Sport is best described as a styling package wrapped around an existing drivetrain and feature set. Its limited availability, ADAS tech, and interior theme may appeal to a narrow but defined slice of buyers who value subtle individuality over outright performance upgrades.
How well it performs commercially will depend on how that target audience responds, especially given rising SUV preference in the same price bracket
